JUMBO withdraws from IPL auction Posted: 03 Jan 2011 10:42 PM PST ANIL KUMBLE, IPL 4 The Indian Premier League auctions scheduled for the January 08 and 09 2011 had the first withdrawal. Anil Kumble withdrew his name from the auctions, owing to business commitments. Commanding the highest reserve price of $400,000 Kumble expressed his inability to carry the Royal Challengers' baton. In Bangalore, in a press release, the former Indian leg spinner stated his intentions to withdraw from IPL 2011 auctions. Thanking everyone he said he enjoyed his stint at the IPL. The Bangalore team started their campaign in IPL under Rahul Dravid. But it was completely a forgetful event. With Kevin Pietersen, the dashing English player, taking over the captaincy in 2009things were no better than the previous year. Half way through the tournament the left arm spinner took over the charge. With Anil Kumble the team's fortune took a U turn. Vijay Mallaya's team ended up in the final. The highest wicket taker so far in India, Anil Kumble has 619 wickets in tests and 337 wickets in one day games. This Indian spinning great retired from the International cricket in 2008. The very fact that Kumble was among the top 22 players with a high base price at IPL reflects the capabilities of this player. In November 2010 the Karnataka State Cricket Association elected him as the president. He also holds the post of vice chairman of the state wildlife board. Bangalore will be missing the energetic spinner very badly, for he was always seeing helping and guiding the new players. Many a players in the IPL owe him their success. Jumbo's absence, as he was better known, will be felt by all was the view expressed by Sundar Raman, COO, IPL. |
Rajasthan Royals & Kings XI Punjab File Affidavit In Bombay HC Posted: 03 Jan 2011 10:12 AM PST Rajasthan Royals & Kings XI Punjab Monday morning the two Indian Premier League(IPL) franchisees filed affidavits that stated compliance with the Bombay High Court’s order to furnish bank guarantee to the BCCI.The BCCI had earlier terminated the contracts of Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab for not asking permission before changing their shareholding pattern. The matter had been moved to the High Court and later it was decided to resolve the issue with arbitration. The termination of contract of both Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab was stayed by the Bombay High Court with the condition that they furnish bank guarantees to the Board of Cricket Control of India. The guarantees were essential as in case the arbitrator’s award went to the two parties, the BCCI & its players would suffer a loss. Kings XI Punjab might obtain the $18 million it had been asked to furnish as bank guarantee, at the Bangalore IPL players’ auction to be held in January 8-9i.It had also been directed to furnish $3.5 million for the BCCI.The former Supreme Court judge BN Srikrishna who had acted as arbitrator for Kings XI Punjab has recused himself from the case, which will soon get a new arbitrator. Meanwhile $2.83 million was to be submitted to BCCI as guarantee by the Rajasthan Royals and a sum of $18 million for the players’ guarantee. Both the parties today affirmed that this has been done by filing an affidavit in the court. For Kings XI, the lawyer’s statement was recorded and the court ruled that no share can be sold without prior notification to the court & the arbitrator. Also the share holding pattern of Preity Zinta and industrialist Ness Wadia, the co-owners of Kings XI wouldn’t change. The High Court had upheld the decision of the arbitrator for Rajasthan Royals who had stayed the termination of their contract by the Board. |

Indian team was expecting blazing start from the blade of Sehwag but Dale Steyn gave a big jolt to Indian team very quickly by removing Sehwag only on 13 runs. But it was not enough as Indian team received yet another big jolt when Mr. Dependable Rahul Dravid got involved in confusion while running between the wickets with Gautam Gambhir and paid the price in the form of his wicket through a ridiculous run out. Before taking long walk back to pavilion Rahul Dravid added only 5 runs in 16 balls in his kitty. Now Indian team was reeling at the score of 28/2 in 10.5 overs. Now Indian team needed someone to stand and retaliate and luckily Opener Gautam Gambhir has got his form back just at the nick of time. On the other hand Cricket King Sachin Tendulkar has once again rose up to the occasion. Now both Gambhir and Tendulkar are present on the crease for team India. Sachin and Gambhir are not only Milking the South African bowling but scoring brisk runs as well. This is something which is putting South Africa in a fix. Moreover, these two have not only been doing renovation but taking the team close to South African total as well. So far these two have added 114 runs for 3rd wicket. Both of them are looking set for a huge ton. Gautam Gambhir is looking calm as usual and he is batting on 65 runs in 159 balls with 8 boundaries. On the other hand Little Champion Sachin Tendulkar is batting on 49 runs in 106 balls with 5 boundaries. If Sachin Tendulkar does not get out early tomorrow soon so it will be very difficult to get him out for South African bowlers. On the other hand Gautam Gambhir is also looking detrimental and he will also leave no stone untouched in destroying South African plans if he does not get out soon. So guys let's hope both Gambhir and Sachin score their tons together and make this test match interesting to watch. So far Indian team gas scored 142 runs in 50 overs with 8 wickets still in hand. For team India Gautam Gambhir and Sachin Tendulkar are retaliating South Africa. So it is very important for team India that both of them play marathon innings so that team can take big lead quickly to put the South African Team under pressure. Both of them will have to watch out the first hour of the day 3 three when the bowlers will be charged up. If these two can do that tomorrow with patience so these two alone are capable of scripting a thumping win single handedly for team India. |
[Highlights] England vs Australia 5th Test Day 1 Wrestle for Control Posted: 03 Jan 2011 04:48 AM PST
The first day of the 5th ashes series test match ended today with each of two sides trying to control the match. The match looked evenly poised at the draw of stumps, with Australia having scored 134 for 4. Winning the toss and deciding to bat the hosts were having a smooth sail with Shane Watson and Hughes giving a solid opening. However, Tremlett drew the first blood when Phil Hughes was shown the way back to pavilion. Shane Watson once again failed to capitalize on the good start and nicked a Tim Bresnan delivery for 45 runs. To add further to the misery the new Aussie skipper was sent out for 4 by Bresnan. Clarke's body language clearly indicated that he felt the pangs as the skipper on his 1st day on the job. With a over cast sky, pitch full of grass, the option of going to bat was a dicey. The English bowlers were only too happy till this juncture. With the ball going past the bat without making any contact especially in the first hour caused a lot of problems to the Australian batsmen. They were just not able to score the runs. The visitors here till now were appearing to take a firm hold on the match. But the Kangaroos once again fought their way out. Newcomer Usman Khawaja, in company of Watson and then Michael Hussey restored the innings back. Initially Khawaja drove and pulled the bowlers, but soon as batsman in him overcame the anxiety felt by the player playing his first match. He soon settled sound and displayed his talent. But, what would be the last ball of the day, saw him returning back to pavilion. |

Chappell’s World 2010—-no Australian in top XI Posted: 02 Jan 2011 11:23 PM PST Four Indians, five South Africans and no Australian? Welcome to the former Australian superstar Ian Chappell's 2010 World XI. Sachin Tendulkar, Indian skipper Dhoni, Virender Sehwag and Zaheer Khan are the four Indians. Sehwag, according to Chappell is the most dangerous batsman in the world. He is a kind of player who can walk away with the match in its very first session, felt the former Aussie great. Not so long ago, there were six Australians featuring in the 2006 World XI. And none other then Bret Lee was the 12th man. This year the closest an Australian could reach is 12th man Shane Watson. Commenting on Tendulkar, Chappell praised his consistency and also the determination. He felt that with the passage of age Sachin's defied the time and unlike Ponting defied the advancing years and reinvented his game. Writing for the Daily Telegraph, Chappell expressed that till four years back the Australians were by far the strongest, they would have won the ashes and stamped their superiority by routing the English Team 5-0. But, alas, it is not so the Kangaroos are going down the hill. Once highly rated team is now tattered. The retirement of Glenn Mc Grath and Shane Warne started the slide. This downslide was further hastened when Adam Gilchrist and Mathew Hayden decide to hang their boots. Dhoni and Zaheer Khan's consistency was the major reason for their selection. The South African players within the team are Greme Smith , Jacques Kallis, Hashim Amla, A B deVilliers and Dale Steyn. The two English men featuring are Greme Swann and Jimmy Anderson. |
