Baroda enters the Ranji Trophy Final Posted: 04 Jan 2011 10:58 PM PST The Ranji Trophy semi final between Baroda and Karnataka was turned out to be a low scoring match. The Baroda team got the better of the former champions Karnataka by seven wickets to enter the final after 2001-02. The scheduled five day match lasted barely for five sessions. Karnataka managed only 88 runs in their second outing, following up 107 in their first essay. The Baroda team having scored 153 in their first innings wrapped up the match by scoring the required 44 runs for 3 wickets. Robin Uthappa and K B Pawan had the innings within their control. They both played late to ensure any further damage to their side. However, with the score reading 27Pawan was the first to depart. Uthappa meanwhile gave three chances before retuning back to pavilion. The left arm spinners were sounding the death knell. The Karnataka batsmen had no answers to their turning deliveries. The exit of Uthappa started the on slide with wickets falling at in quick succession. Gautam and Binny who had rescued the team earlier on many an occasions could not do anything this time. Early in the morning Baroda increased their lead by 20 more runs before folding up at 153. Joshi was the main destroyer for Karnataka taking 6 wickets for 58. To be fair to both the teams, more than the bowlers or the batsmen, it was the pitch playing the villain. The bowl had uncertain bounce. At times it the ball was going over the shoulders of the batsmen on the other occasions the ball barely lifted. |

After batting wonderfully on day 2 overnight Indian batsmen Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir had huge responsibility on their strong shoulders. On Day 3 Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir started the proceedings on positive note. Both of them negotiated the first hour of the morning phlegmatically. During the first hour's play in Newlands South African bowlers were all charged up. They used lot of short stuff against these two Indian batsmen but Sachin Tendulkar and Gautam Gambhir negotiated the short stuff easily with positive frame of mind. Gambhir was looking wonderful during his innings. He was marching towards his graceful century but suddenly Paul Harris managed to get the edge of his bat and the ball straight away went into the hands of wicket-Keeper Mark Boucher. Gambhir got out after playing beautiful innings of 93 runs in 222 balls with 13 wonderful boundaries. His innings made sure that Sachin Tendulkar does not have to bear unnecessary pressure on his shoulders. After the fall of Gambhir'w wicket the whole responsibility came on the strong and experienced shoulder of Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman. Both of them added 31 runs for 4th wicket. When Indian total reached 235 runs then suddenly confusion took place between VVS Laxman and Sachin Tendulkar while running between the wickets. As a result of it VVS Laxman paid the price in the shape of his valuable wicket. That really was a big blow for Indian team. But that was not the end of misery for Indian team as Dale Steyn got into action and gave not one but two back to back mighty blows to team India by removing Cheteshwar Pujara on 2 runs and Captain Mahender Singh Dhoni on 0. This lost of 3 quick wickets serious put Indian team on back foot. But then Indian tail resisted through Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan. Both of them lent hand to Sachin Tendulkar and helped him in scoring brisk as well as useful runs for the team. In between the fall of wickets Sachin Tendulkar reached his 51st historical century. He went on to play even after scoring century. He scored beautiful and indispensible 146 runs in 14 balls with the help of 17 beautiful boundaries and 2 towering sixes. On the other end Harbhajan also gave him wonderful support. He not only supported Sachin TEndulkar but scored quick 40 runs also for the team. He made 40 runs in 67 balls with the help of 3 boundaries and 2 sixes. Just when the partnership started developing Dale Styen Once agin got into action and removed Sachin and Harbhajan quickly. The departure Sachin and Harbhajan left Indian team in confusion as the Indian total had reached only 341/8. It meant Indian team still needed 21 runs to get to South African total. But thanks to Zaheer Khan who came handy just at the right time with bat and played useful innings of 23 runs in 38 ablls with the help of 1 boundary and 2 stunning sixes. But soon by removing Zaheer Khan at the total of 364 runs Morne Morkel ended the Indian innings. For Team India Sachin Tendulkar played wonderfully with bat and completed his century. He made wonderful 146 runs. Apart From Sachin Tndulkar only Gambhir was the one who made useful 93 runs. Gambhir missed his much deserved century. But at the end Harbhajan and Gambhir came seriously handy wioth bat and helped the Indian team in getting pass South African total of 362 runs. For South Africa Dale Steyn bowled well and got 5 wickets at the cost of 75 runs in 31 overs whereas Morkel got 2 wixkets. Paul Harris also got one wicket. Now after ending Indian Innings for 364 runs South Africa was trailing by 2 runs only. South African Captain Graeme Smith and Alviro Petersen started on positive note. Both of them were looking fine. Both of them added 50 runs for first wicket. It seemed as if both of them will take the game away from Indian team but only then Trubnator Harbhajan Singh showed made his prescience felt at highly crunch time by removing Captain Graeme Smith and night watchman Paul Harris. Smith was looking set and dangerous but Harbhajan Singh got the ball in the right area and trapped him right in front of the stumps. Smith made 29 runs before getting out. Shortly after the fall of Smith once again Harbhajan Singh came into action and removed night watchman Paul Harris on 0. This left South African team in a fix. Moreover, the removal of Harris forced South African team to take the unwanted risk of sending in form batsman Hashim Amla to negotiate the remaining 4 balls of the day's play. This time double strike by Harbhajan Singh has not only brought team India back in the match and has left it wide open also. |
Sachin Tendulkar 51st Century is 2011’s First Century Posted: 04 Jan 2011 04:36 AM PST
At Newlands Stadium in Cape Town, batting maestro Sachin Ramesh Tendulkar has deposited another century in his centuries' account. As Sachin has scored 51st century in 3rd day of Test match against team South Africa. Tendulkar's 51st century is also considered as 1st century made in 2011. As Tendulkar achieved his 51st century in 2nd over, after lunchtime, when he gained century on Morne Morkel's ball. When Tendulkar striked the shot (which yielded 51st century to him), at that very instant the whole stadium stood up for greeting salutation to cricket's perfect legend, i.e. Tendulkar for his fantastic achievement. Sachin's 51st first century in year 2011 is 1st century of 2011 & the very 1st by any batsman & that all at the international arena. With renonwed players like V. Sehwag, G. Gambhir, R. Dravid & VVS Laxman coming back in the spectator area, Sachin got a perfect companion in C. Pujara who not just proved his positive purpose but Pujara also let Sachin play his game with his natural innate ability. But C. Pujara got out in 1st over after lunch. Pujara was out due to leg before wicket (LBW) by Dale Steyn. On 2nd day, G. Gambhir & Sachin yeilded out the 1st century partnership of the particular match, with India who already had the loss of 2 wickets. G. Gambhir was not out at 65 not out & Tendulkar was not out at 49. Gambhir & Tendulkar had made an unbeaten 114 for 3rd wicket to make possible for India to achieve 142/2 at the end in response to South Africa’s Kallis-inspired at 362 all out. Although Paul Harris sends away Indian opener G. Gambhir for 93 runs on Day 3. |

These three players were suspended by the International Cricket council under the spot fixing allegations that came up around a month earlier in England during the test match of lords. There was also a sting operation that was undertaken by News of the World in Britain that reported that several players of Pakistan were involved with bookmakers for playing no-balls deliberatively and maiden overs. Aamer and Salman appealed against their suspension but they were later rejected in October. An initial appeal was withdrawn by Asif. Yasin Patel is the one who is working over the case of Salman while Allan Cameron is handling the case of Asif. Aamer talking about the allegations has set his priority right and says that his basic motive is to get his name out of the mess. The lawyer of this cricketer has accordingly prepared the case and will hence work towards this. |

ESPN i.e. International sports broadcaster of 2011 ICC World Cup has sought a confirmed INR 600 crore for terror & weather insurance cover for 2011 ICC World Cup. 2011 ICC World Cup will commence on February 19, 2011. This insurance cover for terror & wealth insurance is 3 times, the INR 200 crore cover which was for the Delhi Commonwealth Games. New India Assurance & General Insurance Corporation are being approached for 2011 ICC World Cup's insurance support. The insurance cover amount sought by ESPN is very elevated than anybody's expectations, as the matches will be held in areas, which are prone to terror attacks. Also, at present India is now in very better structure than in earlier 2007 World Cup & it is estimated to take it to the ultimate stages. Added to that, for the very 1st time, 2011 ICC World Cup will be broadcasted in high definition (HD quality) & will also be accessible from mobile streaming. According to the suggestion by leading insurance officials, the expenditure of cover is expected to be somewhere around INR 7.5-8 crore, this would include only the broadcaster i.e. ESPN's interests, mainly the loss ESPN might incur in advertising proceeds if a match might get cancelled. The by & large cost of insuring 2011 ICC World Cup would be more if the premiums which might have to be paid by the organizers of every country & by each individual sponsors. |

Alistair Cook continued his crackling form and was still playing at 61 when the play came to an end on the second day. In company of Andrew Strauss, he gave the English team a perfect start with an opening stand of 98 runs. Hilfenhaus 's bowling proved a blessing for Strauss as he easily started scoring .The English skipper pulled and drove with authority. However, Hilfenhaus had the last laugh as he bold him out.
