Posted: 22 Nov 2010 11:04 PM PST

It was a brilliant day for India when Somdev Devvarman claimed his first gold at Asian Games 2010 in China in men's doubles tennis event.

He has also become the first Indian tennis player to carve his glorious path to men's singles finals.

India so far has been able to reach to eighth position in countries medals tally with China on top of the list.

This was the tenth day of the games with six more days to go and a chance for Indian contingent to improve their medals tally.

It was a duo of Sanam Singh and Somdev  Devvarman who achieved this feat for India on Monday.

In mixed doubles tennis event it was not a very favorable day for India when the ace player Sania Mirza along with Vishnu Vardhan had to rest with a silver getting defeated in the finals event.

A trio of Mangal Champia, Jayanta Talukdar and Rahul Banerjee managed to get a bronze medal in men's archery team event.

India, with a total tally of 36 medals out of which six are gold, twelve silver and 18 bronze has maintained their eighth position.

But on the other hand the day was not at all good for the athletics department which did not manage to get any medal in any events held for the day.

China has retained their supremacy with a total of 304 medals comprising of 154 gold, 77 silver and 73 bronze medals.

South Korea is unbeatable at number two position with 178 medals containing 61 gold, 51 silver and 66 bronze.

Japan is at number three position with total tally of 158 medals with 32 gold, 59 silver and 67 bronze.

In women's hockey China defeated India by 2-1 but hopes are still alive for the team to get a bronze.

Homestead, FL, United States (AHN) – Michael Schumacher won five consecutive Formula One titles and now Jimmie Johnson has an unprecedented fifth straight NASCAR Sprint Cup Series title.

Yes, for the fifth straight year, Johnson, a new father, is the champion of NASCAR’s premier racing series.

“I am just so proud to be in this position and so thankful to have my great race team and Hendrick Motorsports to give me such great race cars. Four was amazing. It’s pretty (darn) awesome,” said Johnson. “It’s just an amazing day for the team. We’ve got an awesome sport and I’m so proud to represent it.”

Down 15 points to Denny Hamlin heading into Sunday’s season-ending Ford 400, Johnson overcome an early slow pit stop, kept his nose clean to finish second at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

Race-winner Carl Edwards closed the year with back-to-back wins and did his celebratory backflip off the car, but in the background it was Johnson doing burnouts after winning yet another title.

“This is unreal. This is a great way to finish the season,” said Edwards, who led a race-best 189 laps. “Congratulations to Jimmie Johnson, five straight championships. I think if we can go like this we might be able to have a start to have a run like this.”

Kevin Harvick, also in the hunt for the title, did nearly everything he could to win the title, finishing right behind Johnson in third.

“We went down swinging,” said Harvick, who had a speeding penalty on pit road early. “Those guys just outran us by a little bit. All in all, I’m just proud of all my guys. We did everything we wanted to today expcept win the race.”

Hamlin sustained minor damage during a spin on Lap 26 and had to rally for a finish of 14th, which left him second in the title race, behind Johnson and ahead of Harvick.

“Obviously, I’m disappointed,” said Hamlin, who finished with a season-best eight wins. “Our car was lightning-fast up until that wreck. When we hit the 16 (Greg Biffle) it just knocked the toe out and just wasn’t the same the rest of the day. We had a great year.”

Nashville, TN, United States (AHN) – Tennessee coach Jeff Fisher said Vince Young is finished as the starting quarterback after his tantrums during the Titans 19-16 overtime loss to Washington Sunday.

“There are some things that need to change,” Fisher told USA TODAY.

Young was heckled by the home crowd after he fumbled the ball in the red zone in the second quarter. Young motioned a “come on, bring it on gesture” to the crowd that was calling for his job.

Then Rusty Smith replaced Young in the third quarter after suffering what appeared to be a thumb injury. Young looked dejected on the sidelines and was benched for the rest of the game.

Later he proceeded to pull off his jersey and shoulder pads, throwing them into the crowd.

“I was very disappointed, and I think his teammates are disappointed,” Fisher said after Young left the locker room and didn’t talk with reporters.

Fisher would not comment on what transpired with Young and his teammates, but offered his general displeasure of the situation.

“There are some things that went on in there that are just between us.”
