WWC: Wrestler Sushil Kumar: Wins Gold Medal: Becomes The First Indian World Wrestling Champion

SushilSushil Kumar hails from small village of New Delhi. The name of the village is Baprola. His father Mr. Diwan Singh Solanki was a bus driver in MTNL Company whereas his mother was a homemaker. He got inspiration for taking up wrestling from his cousin named Sandeep. But major source of inspiration for joining wrestling was his own father because Mr. Diwan Singh was also a wrestler.

Sushil Kumar learnt all the Wrestling tit-bits from "Akhada" which is called a school for wrestling in India. This Akhada was in Chhatrasal Stadium. He started Wrestling at the tender age of 14 years. Although there are insufficient funds for wrestling and lack of proper trining is also there yet his family made it sure by sending him tinned milk, ghee and all beneficial vegetables that he always gets his full diet.

Sushil Kumar is presently employed as Chief Ticketing Inspector in Indian Railways.

Career:

Sushil Kumar got his training from Indian wrestlers Yashvir and Rampal. Later in his life he got a chance to seek coaching from Arjuna Award winner Satpal and by Coach Gyan Singh also. In his initial life he tolerated many tough conditions. But he wanted to achieve his goal so he did not let anything became hindrance in his way. After this he won State Wrestling Championship. Slowly but steadily he kept on stepping all the stairs of his destination.

Major Achievements:

Slowly but steadily Sushil Kumar kept on stepping all the stairs of his destination. Finally the day came when he represented India in World Cadet Wrestling Championship. Sushil Kumar made our India feel Proud of him in the World Cadet Championship by hitting the bull's Eye. IN the World Cadet Championship this gloriously talented hypnotic and rock solid wrestler displayed his talent won the Gold Medal in the year 1998. But this was just a trailer of this frantically talented athlete.

In the year 2000 once again this super talented wrestler proved his metal in the Asian Junior Wrestling Championship and won the gold medal for our India.

These two excellent achievements achieved by Sushil kumar brought him in the good eyes of the selectors. Selectors gave him a chance to represent India in Men's Asian Wrestling Championship where he once again added another feather to his cap by winning a Bronze Medal in the year 2003. But the full movie of his mesmerizing caliber was yet to be seen by the world. In the same year he repeated his success once again and this time he really made his presence felt all over the world very loudly and very clearly by winning Gold Medal in the Commonwealth Games for our India single handedly.

After this he got a chance to represent India in the World Wrestling Championship in the year 2004 at Athens. This time he got 14th position in the world Wrestling Championship. This was the toughest time of his career. But in the year 2005 he bounced back and once again he made our India feel proud of him as he won Gold medal again in the Commonwealth Wrestling Championship. In the year 2007 Sushil Kumar once again faced tough time in the World Wrestling Championship and got 7th position. But somehow Sushil Kumar qualified for 2008 Beijing Olympic Games where he once again won Bronze Medal for India. But before heading to 2008 Beijing Olympic Games Sushil once again won bronze medal in Asian Wrestling Championship.

For his unforgettable achievement Government of India awarded this glorious athlete with Arjuna Award in the year 2006.

But after this he went to china to represent India in Beijing Olympics 2008 where he won bronze Medal for our India.

Latest Achievement

But this time this super talented, graceful, wonderful, awesome, hypnotic, mesmerizing, frantic athlete has really proved his metal all over the world very clearly. He has not only proved his metal but the metal of India also. The achievement which he has acquired single handedly now has proven that an Indian can also win the World Championship. Yes everyone you are reading a truth. This time this glories athlete has Won Gold Medal for India in the World Wrestling Championship on 12th September 2010 by dashing Russian powerhouse wrestler Gogaev Alan by 3-1 single handedly in the grand Finale of World Wrestling Championship.

So at this unforgettable and wonderful achievement of Sushil Kumar i Kabir Bedi wish him many happy returns of the day on the behalf of my entire DLN Staff. We all wish that you will surely keep on giving us a chance to feel proud of you. Sushil Kumar you are the grace of our Great India. Nation expects a lot from him in the suture also. So we all are sure that the day will surely come when the entire world will surely see him standing on the top of the victory podium in the Olympic Games. The day will surely come when the whole world will surely see his broad and powerful chest strewed with beautiful Olympic Gold Medal Won Single Handedly.

Dowlin tried to hook it but he could not handle the pace as well as bounce. So he simply managed to get an edge of the ball and the ball straightaway went into the safe hands of Dale Steyn who committed no mistake in taking the catch.

Shortly after the departure of Dowlin Guyana lost other Captain Ramnaresh Sarwan also. Ramnaresh Sarwan hit Jacques Kallis for a towering six on the second ball of his innings. But Jacques Kallis is also a very experienced player. So on the next ball he came back and bowled Guyana captain Sarwan. Sarwan made only 7 runs in his 3 balls innings.
After this opener Chattergoon also went back soon.

Chattergoon became victim of huge blunder committed by Deonarine. Chattergoon made only 18 runs in 17 balls.

After this Royston Crandon Crandon came and went back to pavilion soon after making only 5 runs.  Then Jaa Foo who came to the pitch also did not trouble the scorers much and got out only on 1. But this is not enough because Guyana has been loosing wickets one after another. This time Christian has got out after making giant size 0.

So all in all no batsmen of Guyana could last long in front of disciplined balling of Royal Challengers Bangalore Bowlers. So entire team of Guyana got bundled out on only 103 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

For Guyana Barnwell made 30 runs and he is the top Scorer also. No other batsmen spent time on the surface and played irresponsible strokes. That really pushed Guyana on the back foot.

Jacques Kallis took taken 3 wickets at the cost of 16 runs. Kallis bowled 1 wonderful maiden over also. Whereas Royal Captain Anil Kumble, Doshi and Steyn took 1 wicket each. On the other hand Praveen Kumar got 2 wickets.

Although Guyana has posted meager target of 104 runs only for RCB to win the game here yet it will not be easy for Bangalore to win easily here because this pitch is not an easy to bat on especially in the second innings when you are chasing a target. So if Guyana can ball with some discipline so even this target of 104 can also prove to be a fighting total. In addition to it yet it will be a treat to watch for the fans because even then Bangalore will surely have to sweat like pigs in order to register a win here.

But looking at the presence of experience present in the bowling line up of Guyana and experience in the team of Royal Challengers Bangalore I can tell you that it is not going to be a big task for RCB. So all In All Royal Challengers Bangalore teams is looking all set for a Royal win.

Ever since African edition of Champions league T20 2010 has started fans are getting to enjoy nail-biters one after another. First game of Mumbai Indians Vs Highveld Loins went down to the wire. Then the match of Wayamba Elevens vs Warriors also went down to wire.

But every time team that applied the basics properly throughout the game and handled the pressure with phlegmatic mind emerged as deserving winner. Today there was a game between two strong contenders of this tournament South Australia vs
Highveld Loins.

Highveld Loins walked into this game with lot of confidence after thumping Power house Mumbai Indians in the opener. But today the moment Highveld Loins won the toss and committed a blunder of inviting South Australia to bat first South Australian batsmen gave cold shoulder to Loins's bowling attack. Highveld Loins were not ready for this sudden assault of South Australian batsmen.

Owing to this attacking attitude of South Australian Batsmen all the Highveld Loins bowlers lost their line and length. All the bowlers gave away lot of runs. Only Phangiso was the one who kept control over his line and length. Due to the control Phangiso turned out to be very economical in comparison to other bowlers.

Pahngiso bowled 4 overs and got 1 wicket at the cost of 22 runs only whereas Frylinck and Bryun also got 1 wicket each. But both of them gave away lot of runs in bounty to South Australia.

South Australia accepted all the runs given by Highveld Loins bowlers warmheartedly. South Australian opener DJ Harris got out early after making only 13 runs. Manou who came after the departure of Harris also could not leave much impact and got out on 12 runs only.

But the real massacre started when opener Klinger and Ferguson took the charge in their hands.  Now both the openers took the responsibility of providing much required momentum to the innings. Klinger played well and made indispensible 78 runs in just 48 balls.

In his innings Klinger hit 6 beautiful 4's and 5 towering 6's. On the other hand his partner Ferguson also followed his footprints and made 47 runs in just 27 balls. In his innings Ferguson hit 7 wonderful 4's. But he missed his well deserved half century.

Both Klinger and Ferguson gave cold shoulder to the bowling of Highveld Loins and added paramount 97 runs for the partnership of 4th wicket. In this way South Australia posted the total of 178/6 on the board.

Now it was the turn of Highveld Loins to put their effort for winning the game by chasing the mammoth target of 179 runs set by South Australia to win the game. Highveld Loins also started their innings at bad note. Highveld Loins lost 2 quick wickets of opener Vandiar and Jaarsveld.

Vandiar made only 4 runs whereas Jaarsveld made only 8 runs. But Petersen held one end and made quick 56 runs also. So far Highveld loins were looking all set for another comfortable win. But all of a sudden South Australian bowler Christian delivered a peaceable delivery that caught Peterson right in front of his stumps.

Now this was the man that South Australia wanted desperately. Moreover, the departure of Petersen was a big jolt for Highveld Loins. So far Scorecard was showing 109 runs only. So far Highveld Loins were in all sorts of trouble. Now Highveld Loins needed 70 runs in 44 balls. But after the departure of Petersen Highveld Loins team collapsed like a peck of cards. Not batsmen could stay on the wicket.

Although Frylinck tried hard at the end but his effort came too late. Moreover, his effort also was insufficient. Frylinck tried a lot at the end and hit 2 mighty sixes in his innings at the end of 19 over. But on the last delivery of 19 over quickie Shaun Tait came out with furious Yorker that was bang on target. Frylinck tried to hit this Yorker also out of the ground according to the need of the situation but failed to connect. In this way Frylinck also got out and last hope of Highveld Loins also got out.

Now Highveld Loins needed 19 runs to win in the last over but  South Australia did not allow it to happen. In this way Highveld Loins could manage only 167/8 on the board and lost the match by 11 runs.

For his blistering innings of 78 runs in just 48 balls South Australian Captain Klinger got the award of Player of the match.

Today there is 4th game of CLT20 is going on between two evenly matched teams of South Australia Vs Highveld Loins. Highveld Loins came into this mach with plethora of confidence.

Today Highveld Loins won the coin toss and invited South Australia to bat first on a batting friendly surface.

For Highveld Loins no bowler bowled well. Everyone gave lot of runs. For Highveld Loins Frylinck, Bryun, Phangiso got 1 wicket each.

Now it was the turn of Highveld Loins to chase the the target of 179 set by South Australia to win the game. Highveld loins did not start well as they too lost opener Vandiar and Jarsveld cheaply. Vandiar made only 4 runs whereas Jaarsveld made only 8 runs. But Peterson held one end as well as made brisk 56 runs. In 35 balls.

Now the match is likely to end and it is turning out to be a nail-biter. So far Highveld Loins have made 160/8 runs in 19 overs. Loins Need 19 runs to win in the last over.

Durant Carries Team USA To FIBA Finals; Russia Finishes Seventh

Istanbul, Turkey (AHN) – Team USA ended its 16-year finals drought at the World Championship after defeating Lithuania 89-74 Saturday at Sinan Erdem Domein in Istanbul, Turkey.

Forward Kevin Durant once again led the charge with 38 points, as the Americans controlled the match since the opening tip.

The 21-year-old Durant scored 17 first quarter points, including a thunderous dunk five minutes into the game to spark 16-3 run at the end of the first quarter.

Team USA continued to knock down shots, while limiting the Lithuanian’s scoring options in the last three quarters to advance in the finals of the 2010 FIBA World Championship

Aside from Durant, veteran forward Lamar Odom (13 points, 10 rebounds) and Russell Westbrook (12, 8) also contributed steady minutes for the Yankees.

Lithuania had strong production from center Robertas Javtokas (15 points, 9 rebounds), former Duke Blue Devils’ player Martynas Pocius (13, 7), and point guard Mantas Kalnietis (10 points).

A major factor in the contest was the ineffectiveness of Lithuanian top scorer Linas Kleiza, who shot an awful 1-of-11 from the field for 4 points.

The Americans will wait the winner of another semifinal encounter between Serbia and the host nation Turkey.

Team USA has yet to win a gold medal at the World Championship since the Shaquille O’Neal-led national team in 1994.

Meanwhile, Russia secured the 7th place at this tournament with a win over Slovenia, 83-78, in its consolation match earlier.

Five Russian players, led by New York Knicks center Timofey Mozgov (19 points), scored in double figures to topple Slovenia.

Michigan State Wins Second Straight; Topples Florida Atlantic

Detroit, MI, United States (AHN) – Michigan State remained undefeated at 2-0 with a 30-17 victory over Florida Atlantic Saturday at Detroit’s Ford Field.

Kirk Cousins’ touchdown pass to B.J. Cunningham and Le’Veon Bell’s 9-yard run lifted the Spartans to a 20-7 halftime lead over Florida Atlantic. Both teams entered the game at 1-0.

Dan Conroy, who had three field goals, booted a 44-yarder and Bell scampered 9 yards for a 10-0 first quarter lead. Alfred Morris had a 2-yard scoring run for the Owls to make it a 10-7 contest.

Early in the second quarter, Cousins passed 30 yards to Cunningham and Conroy booted another field goal 41 yards late in the period for the 13-point advantage.

The Spartans went up 27-7 early in the third period on Edwin Baker’s 80-yard run from scrimmage. Florida Atlantic’s Xavier Stinson caught a 2-yard pass from quarterback Jeff VanCamp later in the third quarter.

Conroy booted a 50-yard field goal in the fourth quarter for a 30-14 lead. Later in the period, Ross Gornall drilled a 24-yard field goal for the Owls.

Baker led all ballcarriers with 183 yards. Morris had 54 for FAU, which netted 215 passing yards from VanCamp.

The contest was in Michigan but Florida Atlantic was the official host team.

The Owls are directed by 73-year-old coaching legend Howard Schnellenberger, the 2007 Sun Belt Coach of the Year.

It was Michigan State’s first appearance for a football game in downtown Detroit since 1944.

Boxer Mayweather Jr. Released After Posting Bail In Cell Phone Incident

Las Vegas, NV, United States (AHN) – After being arrested on grand larceny charges Friday, boxing superstar Floyd Mayweather Jr. was released from jail the same day after posting $3000 bail.

Mayweather, 33, spent a few hours inside the Clark County jail after his former girlfriend, Jose Harris, reported a domestic violence complaint against the boxer.

Mayweather allegedly attacked Harris and stole her iPhone during a dispute in front of their three children at her home in Las Vegas.

Harris added Mayweather threatened to kill her Thursday after learning her relationship with another man.

Mayweather was charged with grand larceny, a felony crime that carries a maximum of five years state imprisonment.

Meanwhile, Richard Wright, Mayweather’s attorney, downplayed Harris’s allegation, claiming she lost her cell phone.

Harris, currently under a 30-day protection order, is determined to push the case against Mayweather, whom she had been with for seven years until their separation in May.

Not Standing Pat: White Returns To Baseball From Football

Miami, FL, United States (AHN) – Former Miami Dolphins quarterback Pat White is attempting to revive his baseball career after signing a minor league pact with the Kansas City Royals Friday.

White, who set numerous rushing records as a quarterback for West Virginia, will play for the Royals farm system after a one-year stint with the Dolphins.

Selected 44th overall in the 2009 entry draft, White started as a hot football prospect with his terrific rushing ability at the quarterback position.

However, the hype surround him wore down because of inconsistent play and a scary injury in January, when he suffered a concussion after a head-to-head collision with Pittsburgh Steelers defensive back Ike Taylor.

Running back Ricky Williams lauded White as the most improved player in the team after gaining 15 pounds of muscle even before the start of training camp.

Earlier in the month, however, the Dolphins released White after a subpar performance in four preseason matches.

He admitted joining a UFL team could have recharged his football career, but White decided to take a second chance with baseball.

Before he committed to play football at West Virginia, White led the Daphne High School (Alabama) to two state baseball championships in three years, playing as a pitcher and outfielder.

The Anaheim Angels selected him in the fourth round of the 2004 draft and the New York Yankees also picked him in the 48th round of last year’s MLB draft.

Vikings` Receiver Harvin`s Headaches Caused By Sleep Apnea

Minneapolis, MN, United States (AHN) – Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Percy Harvin has been diagnosed with sleep apnea, which doctors believe caused debilitating headaches previously thought to be the result of a migraine disorder.

Harvin, in his second year out of Florida, was hospitalized after losing consciousness during training camp.

Sleep tests revealed Harvin’s heart actually stopped beating in his sleep eight times for up to 10 seconds at a time.

The 22-year-old is no longer taking migraine medication, instead sleeping with a device that pumps air into his nose.

Harvin, coming off an impressive 60-reception rookie year, had just one catch for 12 yards in the Vikings season opening loss to the Saints.

The Virginia Beach native is off the disabled list and will try to improve on the 790 yards and six receiving touchdowns he compiled last season.

Minnesota (0-1) takes on Miami Sep 19 at 1 pm ET.
