CLT T20 Semifinal Result: Warriors Storm Into Grand Finale of CLT T20 2010 Posted: 25 Sep 2010 12:49 PM PDT
Captain of Warriors Davey Jacobs won the coin toss and elected to bat first. Right from the commencement of the game Skipper Davey Jacobs started showing his real colors to South Australian Redbacks. Although in their effort of taking the team off to a flyig start Warriors lost Ashwell Prince early. Ashwell Prince did not trouble the scorers much and went back to pavilion on 0 in the very first over of the match when scoreboard was showing only 1 run. But after this captain Davey Jacobs took the responsibility on his shoulders. Davey Jacobs tore the bowling attack of South Australian Redbacks apart single handedly in the company of Ingram. Both of them shared a century stand on Centurion for the partnership of 2nd wicket. Davey Jacobs and Ingram added 104 runs for 2nd wicket in just 70 balls. This partnership brought Warriors back into the game after early jolt given by quickie Shaun Tait. In this way warriors got the momentum back in their favor. So far Warriors were dominating the game. Warriors were looking all set for 200 plus with a long batting lineup studied with big hitter yet to come. But all of a sudden Warriors captain Davey Jacobs got out after making brilliant 61 runs in just 41 balls. Before getting out he hit 10 fours and 1 towering six in his innings. His innings was crucial for Warriors. But after the fall of his wicket listless looking South Australian Redbacks heaved a huge sigh of relief and pulled the reign to some extent by claiming some more wickets quickly. After the departure of Davey Jacobs South Australian Redbacks got another chance to cheer when Bailey removed set Ingram on the total of 119 runs. Ingram made 46 runs in 35 balls. On the other hand Mark Boucher also played crucial innings of 25 runs in 21 balls. So far Warriors were 142/5 in 17.4 overs. Now South Australian Redbacks were looking in full control of the game as they had got themselves back into the game just at the right time by getting couple of quickie wickets. After the fall of Mark Boucher's wicket Thyssen and Botha got out cheaply. Now score of the Warriors was 146/6 in 18.3 overs. But then all of a sudden Boje stormed in and blew the South Australians Redbacks single handedly. By the end of the innings Boje faced only 7 balls and made quick 22 runs. His innings not only shifted the momentum of the game back into the favor of Warriors but also took his side to a safe total. For South Australian Redbacks DJ Harris bowled well and got 3 wickets in his 4 overs at the cost of 18 runs whereas his Shaun Tait also bowled well. Tait got 2 wickets in his 4 overs by giving 38 runs. On the other hand Bailey also got 1 wicket. For Warriors Captain Davey Jacobs, Ingram starred with bat but it was Boje who provided momentum to Warriors at the end of the innings by smashing 22 quick run in just 7 balls. In this way Warriors set the target of 176 runs to win in front of South Australian Redbacks. In the effort of getting to the target within blink of eye Redbacks got off to poor start and lost openers in the shape of Captain Klinger and DJ Harris. Klinger made only 13 runs in 9 balls whereas DJ Harris made only 8 runs in 14 balls. Graham Manou's poor luck continued even in this crucial game. Manou made only 8 runs in 13 balls and got out. But then Ferguson came on the pitch and took the responsibility of fighting the battle alone. He made 71 runs in just 49 balls. He hit 8 boundaries and 2 sixes in his innings. But on the other hand Warriors kept on getting wickets at regular intervals. No batsmen of South Australian Redbacks stayed on the pitch for more then 1.3 overs except Ferguson. After the loss of Manou South Australian Redbacks lost another wicket in the shape of Borgas. So far South Australian Redbacks were reeling at 60/4 in 10 overs. Now South Australian Redbacks needed 116 runs to win in just 16 balls with only 6 wickets in hand. Now Ferguson took the charge on his shoulders and started smashing Warriors all over the park. But his effort did not prove successful because he did not get any support from other end. In his effort of increasing the run rate and winning the match for his team Ferguson lost his wicket at the score of 134 on the last ball of 18th over. By the time Ferguson was playing it was looking as if Warriors will surely end up as a loosing side here. But suddenly he played one wrong stroke in the effort hitting Botha out of the park and walked across the stumps. This turned out to be enough for the umpire for giving him out LBW. This seriously turned out to the biggest turning point of the match. Fall of Ferguson's wicket worked like a tonic for Warriors who were looking helpless in front of Ferguson. Shortly after the departure of Ferguson Warriors gave couple of more jolts to South Australian Redbacks in the shape of Cooper and Christian. In this way South Australian Redbacks could manage only 145 runs in 20 overs at the loss of 7 wickets. In this way Warriors won the Semifinal match by 30 runs. For Warriors Theron, Tsotsobe, Boje and Botha Starred with bowl and won the day for their side. Theron and Boje got 1 wicket each in their 4 overs. On the other side Tsotsobe and Botha got 2 wickets each. But Tsotosbe was the star for Warriors with ball because he not only took 2 wickets but he gave only 18 runs in his four overs. For playing entertaining and match winning innings Captain of Warriors became the Player of the match. Now Warriors have secured their berth of Champions League T20 2010 Grand Final against flamboyant and dominating Chennai Super Kings of Indian Skipper Mahender Singh Dhoni. This Grand Finale of CLT T20 will be now played tomorrow between Warriors and Chennai Super Kings. |

Today Australian Team got into the ground of PCA Stadium Mohali under the captaincy of their regular captain Mr. Ricky Ponting. Australian Captain Ricky Ponting won the coin toss and decided to bat first. After winning the coin toss Australian team needed their all batsman to find their touch back by spending some time in the middle and get accustomed to Indian pitches for the Border Gavsakar Testy Series 2010 against the host India as early as possible. That is exactly what All the Australian Batsmen did in PCA Stadium of Mohali. After winning the toss Australian openers Shane Watson and Simon Katich came in the middle to bat. Both of them did not look in any hurry. So Watson and Katich spent significant time in the middle and added 232 runs for the partnership of the first wicket. Right from the word go these two Australian Players showed that their team is in the ground with the purpose of practice before the commencement of tough series against host India. The first and the only man to get out today was Opening Batsman Shane Watson who made brilliant 115 in 199 balls. In his innings he looked calm, settled and most importantly he looked calm and purposeful. He has not only made runs in this practice match against Board President XI but has rung warning bells for team India also. he hit 16 wonderful boundaries in his innings before Piyush Chawla got the bounty of his wicket after striving through out the day. On the other hand his companion Simon Katich also looked good. He too made fantabulous hundred. Simon Katich made 104 runs in 178 balls and hit 15 boundaries in his innings. His innings came to end in a dismal manner when he got injured. Otherwise he was looking all set to play big innings and ring warning bells for Indian team to pull their socks up for cut throat competition. After Simon Katich got retired hurt Australian Skipper Ricky Ponting and his Deputy Michael Clark took over the job of Watson and Katich. Both of them neither allowed the bowlers of Board President XI to take more wickets and get their side back into the match but made runs too. By the end of the day 1 Australian team made 319/1 in 90 overs. Now Australian Captain Ricky Ponting is not out on 43 and his deputy Clark is batting on 43 not out. Both of them have shown good form so far with the bat. Moreover, both of them would also like to spend another day in the middle in order to get some runs and match practice under their belt before heading into the test series against India. For Board President XI Piyush Chawla got the only wicket of the day. Otherwise all the bowlers like Sreesanth, Yadav and Unadkat looked helpless in front of determined Australian Team. Even Piyush Chawla got furious stick from the blade of Watson and Katich. Piyush Chawla bowled 26 overs and gave away 120 runs. In his 26 overs he managed only 1 maiden overs and got the wicket of Watson in bounty. On the other hand his companion Pragyan Ojha caused so many troubled all the Australian batsmen and beat the bat time and again. Ojha bowled his heart out. He bowled marvelous 21 overs and gave away only 23 runs. He bowled 8 maidens also. but like others he too failed in taking wickets. So all these bowlers struggled to get wickets which are very important for them because all of them are to play vital role in for India in order to beat Australia in the Border Gavaskar Test Series that is going to begin on 1st October 2010 on the same PCA Stadium of Mohali. So this kind of poor and wicket less bowling is seriously a matter of worry for Team India. Although it is only a practice match but it has shown that Australian Coach Tim Neilson was absolutely right. But cricket is a game of uncertainities so nothing can be said about it. So fans Board President XI may fire back at Australians tomorrow. So keep reading more about Australia Vs Board President XI Match. |
Liverpool vs. Sunderland: Liverpool hopes to make a comeback against Sunderland Posted: 25 Sep 2010 08:59 AM PDT
Liverpool vs. Sunderland Liverpool is taking on Sunderland on Saturday hoping to set things right after the recent humiliations. They had lost to bitter rivals Manchester United last week and were knocked out of the Carling Cup after going down to Northampton Town. With a lone victory of the season against West Brom, Roy Hodgson's men are looking out to put up a better performance. Liverpool can feel relieved as some of their star players are returning to the team from rest. Steven Gerrard, Pepe Reina and Fernando Torres are getting back, gathering strength to the team. Last season, Liverpool had thrashed Sunderland 3-0, with two of the goals coming from Torres. However, Sunderland's Steve Bruce is not bothered about these facts. He in fact preferred to push aside the skills of Liverpool players like Torres. He might feel this as the right time for his team to have an upper hand over the rivals. Lee Cattermole is back with the team after a two match ban following his unwarranted behavior. New entrant Asamoah Gyan is out with injury, while Darren Bent shall remain the striker. Michael Turner might comeback to the team after recovering from injury. Keiran Richardson and Anton Ferdinand may possibly be replaced by Paulo Da Silva and Phil Bardsley. |

Posted: 25 Sep 2010 12:33 AM PDT Warriors vs South Australia The South Australia Redbacks are all set to clash with the Warriors for a place in the final of the Champions League T20 2nd semi final to be held in Centurion. Warriors might gain being the home advantage as well but South Australia is in no mood to let off the rivals that easily. Though both the teams do not boast of too many star players, they have proved themselves to be worthy of being the semifinalists after the previous performances at the Champions League. The Australia team is highly dependent on Captain Michael Kilnger's leadership and on the field skills. Despite the absence of bigwigs like Kieron Pollard and Shahid Afridi, they have managed to be in a better position at the tournament. On the Warrior's side, Davy Jacobs' spectacular openings have offered great confidence to the team. His fielding capabilities have also been well appreciated. The middle order batting had also not let the team down so far. Meanwhile, bowling front remains a matter of worry for South Australia compared to the Warriors. Left-arm spinner Aaron O’Brien and legspinner Cullen Bailey have not been able to pull off impressive displays and were largely doing a secondary role. On the other Warriors' Johan Botha's bowling action had completely threatened opposition batting. Wicketkeeper-batsman Graham Manou's unimpressive display also remains a concern for the Redbacks. |
Knee Woes Make Lakers Center Bynum Questionable For Start Of Season Posted: 24 Sep 2010 11:47 PM PDT AHN Sports Staff Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – Los Angeles Lakers center Andrew Bynum remains questionable to start the season after experiencing difficulty in his ongoing rehabilitation, Lakers spokesman John Black confirmed Wednesday. Black indicated Bynum is not prepared for rigid physical training, forcing him to miss the Lakers training camp in El Segundo, California. The 22-year-old Bynum sustained a knee injury in the West first-round playoff series against the Oklahoma Thunder, but decided to play through June for the NBA finals. During the postseason, Bynum underwent several knee-draining procedures to treat his swollen knee cap. Bynum still averaged 8.6 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks in 23 postseason games, helping the Lakers capture their second straight NBA title. With Bynum sidelined, the Lakers will likely rely on veteran center Theo Ratliff through preseason and in the first few games of the season. Still, the Lakers believe they will need Bynum’s presence when the stakes are much higher, especially in the postseason. Bynum pushed back the date of his surgery several times before undergoing a successful procedure on his ailing knee in late July. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |

GTTA’s decision came despite concerns that facilities and other structures in India are not safe enough for the athletes. The NBA and Adidas collaborated to come up with advancements in the new Revolution 30 uniform system expected to enhance players’ performance. Front and back numbers are now made of breathable mesh as compared to dense material used in the past. With the use of Adidas CLIMACOOL fabrics, the new uniforms dry twice as fast as previous NBA uniforms. Developers incorporated the Adidas Formotion technology, designed to reduce seams and decrease the friction resulting from contact between the garment and the player’s skin. It will mark the first time a league will use environmentally friendly uniforms on a full-time basis. The jerseys are made from 60 percent recycled materials. ‘Wings Injured Forward Franzen Says Orpik`s Hit Warrants Suspension Posted: 24 Sep 2010 10:19 PM PDT Jojo Doria – AHN Sports Contributor Detroit, MI, United States (AHN) – Detroit Red Wings forward Johan Franzen, hurt in a collision with Pittsburgh’s Brooks Orpik in the preseason opener Wednesday, opined the hit is worthy of suspension. Franzen, one of the Wings big offensive guns, had to be helped off the ice after taking the brunt of a knee-on-thigh collision with Orpik just after he dumped the puck deep into the offensive zone. The 30-year-old Red Wings center was skating after the puck when the vicious hit came and ended the night for Franzen, later diagnosed with a charley horse. Franzen, who initially feared the hit might have affected his surgically-repaired knee, believes Orpik deserves a suspension even though he said the Pens defenseman was not targeting his bad knee. “It was terrible, stupidest play I’ve ever seen,” said Franzen, who missed four months last season following ACL surgery, as reported by Detroit News.com. “He lifted his foot up and put his knee inside of my leg.” Orpik’s hit which drew fire from the Red Wings, including coach Mike Bobcock, was reminiscent of last season’s knee-to-knee shot by Montreal’s Georges Laraque on Niklas Kronwall, who was sidelined for two months. Laraque was handed a five-game suspension from the league. Orpik was assessed a five-minute major for kneeing after his hit. He was later given a fighting major and game misconduct following a scuffle with Red Wing’s Todd Bertuzzi. Franzen is listed as day-to-day and could play if he is fit Saturday or Sunday.
