Cliff Lee Trade: Yanks Close To Completing Deal For Mariners’ Ace Lee Posted: 09 Jul 2010 11:20 AM PDT Cliff lee sherman Seattle, WA, United States – Recent reports from sources close to the situation reveal the Yankees and Seattle Mariners are close to completing a deal that would send former Cy Young winner Cliff Lee to New York. Lee, 31, is actually scheduled to take his league-leading ERA (2.34) to the mound against the Yankees and emerging ace Phil Hughes Friday in Seattle. Several other teams are also interested, including the Rays, Twins, Rangers, Reds, but New York has the best chance of landing the ace. The deal will likely include Yanks prized catching prospect Jesus Montero and second base prospect David Adams, according to ESPN. Montero is batting .253 with 35 RBI and six homers in 77 games for AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Adams batted .317 with 27 RBI and three homers through 34 games for AA Trenton. Lee would add to an already devastating rotation that includes Hughes (10-2, 3.83), ace CC Sabathia (11-3, 3.19) and Andy Pettitte (11-2, 2.70) in the midst of the best season of his 15-year career. The Arkansas native is 8-3 with a miniscule .95 WHIP in 13 starts for the last-place Mariners, his third team in two seasons. New York (54-31) currently owns the best record in baseball and a two-game lead ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays in the hotly-contested AL East. Copyright © 2003 – 2010 AHN – All rights reserved. |
LeBron James: CLEVELAND CAVALIERS LOSE OUT TO MIAMI HEAT IN THE RUN FOR LeBRON JAMES(video) Posted: 09 Jul 2010 03:12 AM PDT LeBron James The following few words of LeBron James changed the scene at NBA as well as for Cleveland and Miami; the former for the worse and the latter for the better. While addressing the national TV audience, from a small stage in Greenwich, Conn, at 9:27 pm last week, James said: "This fall, and it’s very tough. I’m going to take my talents to South Beach and join the Miami Heat." This statement brought two absolutely contrasting emotions into light. Florida was celebrating and the city of Ohio was a picture of doom and shattered dreams which gradually gave way to their anger. The most sought-after man in the league history appeared quite restless and unsure of himself while announcing his plans late Thursday night. It may be interesting to note that this supremely talented player is a two time MVP but has yet to earn a title to his name. He will now team up with the U.S. Olympic teammates: Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, a trio that could go places in this sport. James said: "”I can’t say it was always in my plans, because I never thought it was possible" and commenting about his alliance with these two great stars with whom he is really well acquainted, he remarked: "I’ve looked forward to it. Those are two great players, two of the greatest players that we have in this game today. You add me, and we have a really good team." The Miami's president Pat Riley was able to acquire the three players in an earlier unheard of free-agent class. This declaration of James put an end to all the rumors and the competition among all the franchisees to land up this 25-year-old who does not even have a finals win to his credit. The revelation of James resulted in a chaos in Cleveland as the otherwise empty downtown bars and restaurants brimmed with disappointed people. While a few set alight his No.23 jersey, the others pelted rocks at the ten-storey-tall billboard depicting James with his head tilted back and his arms pointing upwards. "We Are All Witnesses", says the writing on the wall. Gilbert does not mince words while talking to The Associated Press or writing an open letter posted on the team's website where he doubts James' faithfulness and holds him responsible for the Cleveland Cavaliers' second round loss to Boston. “He quit,” Gilbert said in a phone interview. “Not just in Game 5, but in Games 2, 4 and 6. Watch the tape. The Boston series was unlike anything in the history of sports for a superstar. … People have covered up for him for way too long.” "As you now know, our former hero, who grew up in the very region that he deserted this evening, is no longer a Cleveland Cavalier," Gilbert wrote. “This was announced with a several day, narcissistic, self-promotional build-up culminating with a national TV special of his ‘decision’ unlike anything ever ‘witnessed’ in the history of sports and probably the history of entertainment.Clearly, this is bitterly disappointing to all of us." "The self-declared former ‘King’ will be taking the ‘curse’ with him down south. And until he does ‘right’ by Cleveland and Ohio, James (and the town where he plays) will unfortunately own this dreaded spell and bad karma." "Just watch." The Cleveland's offer ousted the rest of the teams by $30 million but even this did not prove enough to hold James back. "It’s about a team," James said. Maybe the temptation of the union with the 28-year-old Wade and the 26-year-old Bosh whose careers are touching an all-time high, which will probably lead him to a title, was too much to resist. James left Connecticut for the Miami Airport where he met Heat officials, hopped into a vehicle and was driven away leaving behind a group of his fans, paparazzi and the other media persons. On the other hand, the entrance of W Hotel on Miami Beach was blocked by a group of 17 celebrity photographers and several fans who jumped towards every SUV coming towards the hotel. Bosh entered the club earlier that evening quite unnoticed by the eager crowd. The proceedings at Cleveland were a complete contrast to Miami. When the news of his jersey being burnt and all other incidents of outburst reached James, he said: "I can’t get involved in that. I wanted to do what was best for LeBron James … At the end of the day, I feel awful. I feel even worse that I wasn’t able to bring an NBA championship to that city. I never wanted to leave Cleveland. My heart will always be around that area. But I also felt like this is the greatest challenge for me, is to move on.” Even his team seems disheartened. "I feel like my heart has been pulled out," Cavaliers guard Mo Williams posted on his Twitter account. "But I’m happy for my friend."James resolution brings us to the end of almost two years of speculation and the tug-of-war among the rest of the teams to pull this 6-foot-8, 260-pound player to their side. He had remarked at New York’s Madison Square Garden in November of 2008 that "July 1, 2010, is going to be a big day." And, so it was. |
