Detroit, MI, US – Minnesota right-hander Carl Pavano has allowed only one hit and one baserunner in five innings of work Sunday to lead the Twins to a 4-0 advantage over the Tigers at Comerica Park.

Pavano retired the first 13 batters before Detroit outfielder Brennan Boesch beat out an infield hit with one out in the fifth inning.

But Pavano, who has four strikeouts, got Carlos Guillen to bounce into an inning-ending double play.

Pavano, who appears to be getting better with age, entered the game with a 9-6 record and 3.58 ERA.

The Twins tagged Detroit rookie starter Andy Oliver in the first inning for two runs. Oliver walked the first two batters, Denard Span and Orlando Hudson, who were both singled home by Jim Thome.

Oliver used the defensive talents of Tiger shortstop Ramon Santiago to avoid further damage in the third. With runners on second and third and no outs, Santiago made a backhand spear of a line shot off Thome’s bat.

With the bases loaded, he scooped up Jason Kubel’s grounder up the middle and made the backhand flip to second base to start an inning-ending double play.

Oliver left after 4 2-3 innings, giving way to reliever Eddie Bonine, who allowed a two-run double to his first batter, Michael Cuddyer.

Minnesota entered the game at 45-42, four games behind the Tigers, who lead the Chicago White Sox by half a game for the American League Central Division lead.

The Tigers are at 48-37 after winning the first two games of the series against Minnesota.

Edoardo Molinari

Luss, Scotland, UK – It was believed to be a 3-man contest for the cup at the Scottish Open Sunday between Edoardo Molinari & Darren Clarke.

But Clarke stumbled early and made it an easy day for Molinari at the Loch Lomond resort.

The players were greeted by tamer conditions for the final 18 holes. The rains had cleared, the sun peeked out at times and the winds weren’t strong enough to worry about.

Clarke got off to a miserable start with a bogey at the second hole, then a double at the par five third, followed by another bogey at the fifth. He shot a costly 40 on the front nine and paved the way for a stressless round for the Italian star.

Molinari was far from the birdie machine he was on Saturday. He shot a three-over par 74 that featured only two birdies, well off his third round 63.

Clarke and Molinari distanced themselves from the field. Raphael Jacqueline of France finished four shots behind the winner and took solo third at eight-under par 276.

John Daly, who played well for three days, had a miserable final round. He shot 77, finished two-over and in a tie for 26th.
