Dez Bryant: I Have Been Drafted To NFL To Play Football Posted: 26 Jul 2010 11:18 AM PDT
Dez Bryant Dez Bryant was drafted to play football in NFL. He did not know it that he will have to play couple of dirty games mind games also. Ever since he has been drafted he has to bear some snobbish stuff from the senior most players of the team. All this bull shit is happening to Dez Bryant because of one worn out custom. As per this orthodox custom rookies are expected to carry the pads of their seniors. In addition to it they also have to sing their school fight anthem in the presence of everyone. Moreover, rookies get some donuts also. This all process of demeaning the rookies is performed after the practice session. Same thing his senior Roy Williams attempted at Dez Bryant to make him carry his pads so Dez Bryant openly refused to do so. Later he released a statement in the media and made everyone bear one thing in their minds that he is here to play football instead of performing all these foolish customs which are nothing else but a profligacy of a precious time. In his statement he also said that he does not wish to demean anyone through his statement. Dez also said that everyone comes here to play football and win a championship for his team instead of performing such a disrespectful customs. So at last Dez Bryant said that some people need to understand it as early as possible. |
Millwall Striker, sentenced to life-imprisonment Posted: 26 Jul 2010 03:42 AM PDT
David Grant David Grant, former professional footballer, had been charged against murder of Leon Labastide, 21. The case has been going on ever since it happened in 2004. In 2007, he was even released of the murder charges. But now yet again he gets to see the prison bars each day, this time for life. On Friday, Grant was sentenced to lifetime imprisonment at the Old Bailey. The Judge said that he is supposed to serve at least 25 years in jail. David Grant, the Milllwall Striker, had shot Labastidie in Harleden. He was involved in some "tit-for-tat" shootings on the Stonebridge Park Estate. The other two accused and later found guilty in the above case, Gareth Downie, 25, and Damian Williams, 32, were each given the same sentence as David. The above duo was sentenced for conspiring against the murder of Leon. In 2007, Grant was also accused but later cleared of charges against murder of Jahmall Moore, 22. |
Busch Wins At O`Reilly; Eighth Victory Of Season Posted: 26 Jul 2010 02:13 AM PDT Edward Lewis – AHN Sports Reporter Indianapolis, IN, United States (AHN) – Kyle Busch returned from a week off for vacation and raced his way back to Victory Lane Saturday night in the NASCAR Nationwide Series race at O’Reilly Raceway Park. Busch, who vacationed in the islands with his fiance during the Sprint Cup off week last weekend, came back two weeks later and assumed his spot at the top in the series. Even though Brad Keselowski leads the points race, it is Busch who has won in eight of 20 starts in the series this season and Busch who has won five of his last six Nationwide starts. Carl Edwards race side-by-side for the lead with Busch on the final lap, but unlike last week at Gateway with Keselowski, there was no last-lap wreck as Busch held on the 0.686-mile track. Edwards, after being fined 60 points and $25,000 for last week’s actions, raced Busch clean as Busch hauled in his 38th career Nationwide Series victory. A caution came out with six laps to go, putting Edwards in a position to make a dash for Busch, but on the final green-white-checkered restart, Busch got the jump in Turn 1. Busch led four times for a race-best 144 laps and was followed by Edwards, Aric Almirola, pole-sitter Trevor Bayne and Reed Sorenson. Keselowski ran eighth. “We have a few gremlins on this car that we have to work on and get it a little better. It was a fast race car. We’re just fighting some gremlins and we’ll get them fixed and be a contender with it,” said Keselowski. “We gave up a few points, probably 30 or so. We ran solid all night and just didn’t catch the breaks we needed.” Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Will Power On Pole At Edmonton; Sixth Of Season Posted: 26 Jul 2010 02:13 AM PDT Edward Lewis – AHN Sports Reporter Emonton, Alberta, Canada (AHN) – Will Power continues to be the driver to beat in the IZOD IndyCar Series. Power, coming off of a win last week, earned his sixth pole of the season Saturday when he posted the fastest lap on the 1.973-mile, 14-turn City Centre Airport course for Sunday’s Honda Indy Edmonton. “It’s awesome to get the Verizon car on the pole again. All the points count and I know here it’s important to be at the front because it is tough to pass,” said Power. “If all the strategy goes well, like it did last year, it makes it easier to win. It’s a long day tomorrow. We have a good starting spot and we have to keep going to win this championship.” It was Power’s fifth pole on a road/street course as he topped Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves by 0.0765 of a second. Target Chip Ganassi’s Scott Dixon, the 2008 race winner, will start alongside teammate Dario Franchitti on Row 2 and behind them will be Team Penske’s Ryan Briscoe and E.J. Viso, of KV Racing Technology. “It was a good run today and a good qualifying effort against very tough guys. We put in so much effort to go up against the Penske and Ganassi drivers that we didn’t have a set of stickers that we could use in the last run,” Viso said. “We needed another two or three tenths from a set of stickers and we could have qualified in P4. We’re happy. It’s a tough race and a long race and we have the resources to finish up with those guys.” Rookie Simona de Silvestro will start a season-high seventh in the No. 78 Team Stargate Worlds/HVM Racing car, and Andretti Autosport’s Ryan Hunter-Reay will be beside him on Row 4. A`s Pitcher Sheets Placed On Disabled List With Strained Elbow Posted: 26 Jul 2010 02:13 AM PDT AHN Sports Staff Oakland, CA, United States (AHN) – Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Ben Sheets was placed on the disabled list due to a strained right elbow, the team announced Saturday. The 32-year old Sheets sustained swelling in his surgically repaired elbow after logging at least six innings in each of his last two starts. “It’s been up and down,” Sheets told MLB.com Saturday morning, “but for the past two games it’s been telling me something, and it’s swelled up pretty good both times.” Sheets, who skipped the entire 2009 season following major elbow surgery, was posting mediocre statistics for the Athletics prior to the injury. Sheets, four-time MLB all-star, went 4-9 with a 4.53 ERA, 84 strikeouts, and 43 walks in 20 starts this season. Known for his high-velocity pitches, Sheets said the injury decreased the speed of his throws significantly in long innings. “I know last start it hurt,” Sheets told MLB.com, “and somewhere in that long game against Anaheim, I think, didn’t help me. If you notice my velocity in that game, it went down after that long inning.” Left-handed reliever Cedrick Bowers was tapped to replace Sheets during the veteran’s 15-day period on the injury list. The A’s already used the DL 19 times this year and 83 times over the last four years, ranking them second behind the Texas Rangers with 86 DL stints over that stretch. Hall of Famer Herzog Says MLB Needs Replay In Postseason Posted: 26 Jul 2010 02:13 AM PDT AHN Sports Staff Cooperstown, NY, United States (AHN) – Baseball Hall of Famer Whitey Herzog made an intriguing suggestion Saturday, saying MLB needs to implement replay for the entire postseason to prevent blown calls in highly important games. The 78-year old Herzog believes expanding replay in the postseason would prevent in-game controversies such as blown calls from marring a playoff match. Herzog came short of winning his second World Series title in three years due to the infamous blown call made by first base umpire Don Denkinger in the ninth inning of Game 6 of the 1985 World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals. Also known in sports as “the call,” Denkinger called the first base rush effort of Jorge Orta safe despite replays showing Cards reliever Todd Worrell touched the bag first before the Royals hitter. Denkinger’s in-game blunder led the way for the Royals to win the game and eventually the series. “There’s 165 million people that knew Denkinger missed that call, and we couldn’t do anything about it. We broke down a little bit after that. But the game should have been over.” Herzog told USA Today Saturday. Herzog along with Chicago Cubs great Andre Dawson and umpire Doug Harvey will be inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame Sunday in Cooperstown, New York. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Posted: 26 Jul 2010 02:13 AM PDT Edward Lewis – AHN Sports Reporter Edmonton, Alberta, Canada (AHN) – Milka Duno may look like a million bucks and have multiple advanced education degrees, but The Indy Racing League thinks she needs to shape up her driving skills. On Saturday the sanctioning body for the IZOD IndyCar Series placed Duno on probation for the rest of the year for consistently meeting minimal performance standards. Duno has failed to finished above 20th in any of her series starts and she had a on-track issue yet again this week while preparing for the Edmonton Indy event. The IRL-induced probation requires Duno immediately and substantially improve her driving during the remaining events on the 2010 schedule. Substantial improvement means she consistently meet the performance standards set by the league. She drew the ire of fellow female IndyCar driver Danica Patrick this week and now will have to maintain certain standards on road and street courses. Her progress will be measured in terms of time (107 percent of lead car), and on ovals it is measured in terms of speed (10 mph of the lead car). In addition to time and speed, other requirements include car control/placement and interaction with other cars on track. The IRL said If the improvements are not met, the league may impose other penalties at its discretion. Duno will have the opportunity to contest the penalty, pursuant to the IZOD IndyCar Series rule book. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Sri Lanka Spank A Languid India Posted: 26 Jul 2010 01:44 AM PDT India vs Sri Lanka After crushing India in the first test match, there seems to be no stopping Lanka anymore. In the second test, with the flawless batting of Tharanga Paranavitana and Tilakratne, the Lankans have raced to 128 runs for the loss of only one wicket by lunch. Paranavitana, who scored a magnificient century in the first test, scored an unbeaten 45 today. Dilshan however was playing the test more like a 20-20 and smashed f4 runs from just 42 balls. India’s woes will only increase if Lanka put up a big score as India’s star batsmen, Yuvraj Singh and Gautum Gambhir have been ruled out of the match. Suresh Raina and the IPL star Murali Vijay have been roped in as their replacements, but the relative lack of experience that these two have in this format of the game might prove to be their undoing. But the good news for India would be that the Lankans have lost the bite in their bowling attack, with Murli retired and Malinga rested. |
Isner Advances Past Kevin Anderson, Into Atlanta Tennis Final Posted: 25 Jul 2010 09:53 PM PDT Kareem Shaker – AHN Sports Reporter Atlanta, GA, United States (AHN) – Second seed American John Isner bounced back from a grueling second set tiebreaker loss to capture the third set and take down South African Kevin Anderson 6-3, 6-7 (7), 6-3. Isner plays the winner of Saturday night’s match between top seed Andy Roddick and six seed Mardy Fish in the Atlanta Tennis Championship Final. In the blistering heat forecasted at 96 degrees, temperature gauges on the court read as high 146 degrees. The 6-foot-9 Isner and the 6-foot-8 Anderson, two of the tallest three players ranked in the ATP 100, battled for hours under the grueling sun. Anderson looked to have the momentum after Isner dropped a break point going into the final set, but Isner regrouped and outplayed the slower Anderson. Isner will try to capture his second career ATP title and the $95,845 first-place prize. The Tampa, FL resident made headlines last month when he won a three-day, 11 hour-plus marathon over Nicolas Mahut of France. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
A-Rod Still Seeks Homer No. 600, Royals Top Yanks Posted: 25 Jul 2010 09:53 PM PDT Kareem Shaker – AHN Sports Reporter NY, NY, United States (AHN) – Jose Guillen and Rick Ankiel each knocked in two runs and Kyle Davies dealt 5 1-3 innings of four-run ball as the Kansas City Royals took down the New York Yankees 7-4 Saturday afternoon. Alex Rodriguez, hitting against the same pitcher that allowed his 500th homer, failed to connect for his 600th in a 1-for-4 performance. The Royals got to Yanks bottom-of-the-rotation starter Sergio Mitre early on, going up 6-0 after just 4 1-2 innings. Mark Teixeira and Jorge Posada each hit solo shots to cut the lead to 6-2. Jose Guillen answered with a solo shot, but Teixeira added a two run-shot that made it 7-4. Former Yankee Kyle Farnsworth, Robinson Tejeda and Joakim Soria combined to blank the Yanks for the remaining 4 2-3 innings. The Yankees (61-35) are 14-5 in the month of July and maintain the best record in baseball, 3.5 games ahead of Tampa Bay in the AL East. Kansas City (42-55) are battling the Cleveland Indians (41-55) for last place in the AL Central. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
