Serbia vs Ghana FIFA 2010 Result: Ghana had good time Posted: 13 Jun 2010 11:31 AM PDT Serbia and Ghana were having some agendas at the very opening game of the Group D in the FIFA 2010 World Cup. Serbia tried hard to make up for their previous losses in Germany and made efforts to perform well in this game. It was a hard time for Serbia in history when they got thrashed by Argentina by 6-0 Ghana Gyan Ghana expected some support from African in this tournament which is the 1st in its own continent. Ghana got the first point which led to its victory after a late penalty by Serbia which was the 1st penalty of this World Cup. Otherwise the match was probably going to draw. Aleksabdar Lukovic got his second yellow cards in the 84th minute. Then Zdravko Kuzmanovic who was the 2nd half substitute made a mistake of hitting the ball with his hand when he tried to head a cross leaping awkwardly. Ghana players dominated the game as they were pretty energetic but failed to make the final effort needed to score though. Ghana's 3 good attempts for goal were blocked by the Serbian defense. Boateng, Asamoah and Andre Ayew played pretty strong in the first half while playing on the left side. Ghana's outside players took the advantage on the field as the Serbians were pretty predictable due to their slow pace. The 2nd half was a good opportunity for Ghana due to Prince Tagoe. Whereas little lack of discipline from Lukovic stunned Serbia and also got him his 2nd yellow card following by his dismissal from the game. |
World Cup: Gyan Penalty Kick Powers Ghana To Stunner Of Serbia Posted: 13 Jun 2010 11:17 AM PDT Loftus Versfeld stadium, Pretoria, South Africa (AHN) – Asamoah Gyan waited out the goalkeeper on a penalty kick and calmly slipped a shot into the left side of the goal, lifting Ghana to a 1-0 win over European power Serbia. Serb Kuzmanovic used his hand to knock down a cross in the 85th minute, setting up Ghana’s opportunity. Serbia had little time to recover from the gaffe. It marked the first win by an African team and it took place at the first World Cup held in Africa, a fact certainly not lost on Ghana’s joyous fans. Serbia played strong defense for the most part but had few scoring chances, like Milos Krasic’s, who had a hard shot turned aside by Richard Kingson in the latter stages. Logano Drives To History At Kentucky Posted: 13 Jun 2010 10:28 AM PDT Edward Lewis – AHN Sports Reporter Sparta, KY, United States (AHN) – Three years ago Joey Logano became the youngest driver to win a NASCAR Nationwide Series race at Kentucky Speedway. Logano became the first driver in NASCAR history to win three consecutive races from the pole at the same track when he drove away to a win in the Meijer 300 at Kentucky Speedway Saturday night. “I don’t know what feels better, getting 3-for-3 here or getting the first one this year,” said Logano. “I’m speechless right now. I feel like I needed a win here for a long time and I’m pretty pumped up about it.” Logano had the best car — he led a race-best 110 laps — and held off Carl Edwards and beat the incoming rain to capture his third win in the Bluegrass State. “It feels really good,” said Edwards. “Joey’s had a long week and he deserves that win. It was close.” Brendan Gaughan passed Logano for the lead with 26 laps to go, but Logano took the lead right back on the next lap. Logano distanced himself from the field over the last 20 laps until Edwards closed on the youngster in the final circuits. Edwards settled for runner-up honors. Following Edwards was Brad Keselowski, Gaughan and Reed Sorenson. “Maybe another caution could’ve bunched it up,” said Keselowski, the points leader. “We keep finishing top-fives, there’s no way they’ll catch us.” Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Nava Belts Grand Slam In Major League Debut As Red Sox Club Phils Posted: 13 Jun 2010 10:28 AM PDT kate rowland – AHN Sports Reporter Boston, Massachusetts, United States (AHN) – Daniel Nava, an undrafted prospect signed by the Red Sox in 2008, swung at the first pitch he faced in his first Major League at-bat and walloped a grand slam into right-center field to lead Boston in a 10-2 rout over the Philadelphia Phillies Saturday. Nava became the fourth Major Leaguer to hit a grand slam in his first career at-bat, but only the second to do so on the first pitch. Kevin Kouzmanoff was the first to manage the feat for the Cleveland Indians in 2006. Nava later hit a line-drive double into the left-center gap, and finished the game 2-for-4. J.D. Drew, who had three hits on the night, began the second inning with a solo homer. Adrian Beltre, Jason Varitek and Darnell McDonald singled to load the bases for Nava’s historic at-bat. Boston’s Scott Atchison also got his first Major League start after Daisuke Matsuzaka was scratched during warmups and placed on the disabled list with a right forearm strain. Atchison gave up two hits and two runs over three innings. Manny Delcarmen (2-2), the second of five Red Sox pitchers, worked two innings for the win. Franklin Shrugs Off Broken Arm To KO Liddell At UFC 115 Posted: 13 Jun 2010 10:28 AM PDT Shawn Krest – AHN Sports Correspondent Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada (AHN) – Rich Franklin suffered a broken arm early but still managed to knock out Chuck Liddell in the first round of the main event of UFC 115 in Vancouver Saturday night. Liddell showed his kickboxing skills early in the bout, throwing kicks to the head and body of Franklin. When Franklin attempted to fend off one of the body kicks early in the first round, it broke his left forearm. “Early in the fight, when Chuck threw that kick to my body, I blocked it and broke my left arm,” said Franklin. “I can feel it. The bones are clicking together. My arm is broken.” Franklin clutched his arm to his body in obvious pain after the bout, but he did a good job concealing the injury during a strike-filled first round. Liddell recorded the only takedown of the bout, faking a punch to the head and shooting in for a quick takedown. During the scramble, Franklin opened a cut over Liddell’s left eye. Both fighters landed well with kicks and punches from the standing position. Liddell wobbled Franklin with a right hand midway through the round, but when he charged in to capitalize, Franklin countered with a solid punch with his broken left arm. “The game plan was not to stand in front of him, which I started to do again,” Franklin said. “Once he kicked me in that arm, and I could feel the forearm clicking, it kind of took me out of my game.” The exchange foreshadowed the conclusion of the fight about a minute later. Liddell charged in with a flurry of punches, putting Franklin on the defensive. As he moved in, however, Liddell slipped, allowing Franklin to drive him back with a combination of his own. Liddell regrouped and charged in again, landing a solid elbow to Franklin’s head. Liddell then missed with a straight right, and the force of the punch sent him lunging past Franklin. Franklin caught Liddell flush with a right hand that knocked the UFC Hall of Famer out cold. The fight was stopped at 4:55 of the first round. “The thing about Chuck is, when he gets you on the run, he really overcommits to things,” Franklin said. The knockout loss most likely ended the legendary career of Chuck Liddell. The former UFC Light Heavyweight champion has now lost three straight bouts, all by knockouts. The loss to Franklin was his second straight first-round stoppage. Liddell also lost to Rampage Jackson by first round knockout in a bout that started Liddell’s current string of five losses in his last six fights. Liddell falls to 21-8, while Franklin moves to 27-5 with his 15th career knockout. The bout was the coaches fight for the 11th season of The Ultimate Fighter. Liddell was originally scheduled to face rival coach Tito Ortiz, but Ortiz dropped out of the fight and show due to a neck injury that required surgery. Franklin stepped in to take over Ortiz’s team for the final week of competition, and he took Ortiz’s place across the cage from Liddell. This is the second time Franklin has survived a serious mid-fight injury and gone on to win. At UFC 58, he defended his Middleweight title with a unanimous five-round decision over David Loiseau despite breaking his left hand in the second round. “Are you kidding me?” a shocked Franklin said when asked if he would have been able to come out for a second round. “It’s (just) a broken arm. I’ve fought with a broken hand before. I’m not going to quit. The fans came to see a fight.” Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
