In the beginning of last year the Pakistanis had gone to Australia but the tour proved to be disastrous with a banning of some seven Pakistani players from the coming international matches for the duration of one year. Rana was one of the seven unfortunate players at that time. The players who were banned have had their fare share of fines and bans with at least five of them being already picked up to play for the national team on different occasions. According to Naved himself he is fit and healthy, he is bowling well and he also strongly believes that he can contribute a lot to his team. In that tour of Australia the team of Pakistan lost three tests, the one day internationals which were some five in number and also a 20-20 contest which was also a bad performance. Besides this there were also reports of bad show of morale by the teammates with reports of some in-fighting. As if this was not enough even the captain himself, Shahid Afridi was caught biting the ball and therefore banned. Before his ban the 32 year old Pakistani cricketer had played some 74 number of one day internationals and 9 test matches. He further added that this was a great relief for him as the ban had proved very strenuous for his career for a long time. |

Posted: 09 Oct 2010 01:52 AM PDT Tiger Woods After many months of controversies and his fair share of embarrassment, it was a relief moment for Tiger Woods when he walked into the assembly room of a school named Cesar Chavez Public Charter School where he was welcomed with feelings of applause and enthusiasm by the kids. He was very happy and narrated his old stories, memories with a charming smile on his face. He was actually there as an angel with some good news for the kids when he informed them that his charitable foundation is planning to open a learning center for the kids upstairs. This kind of feel good factor visits should be increased in number for this golf champion after all these recent months of havoc and pain. Both professionally in his sporting career and also personally it was a tough time this year where he had very few people by his side. On Friday, the golfer visited the capital of the country for the special opening ceremony of two famous Tiger Woods education and learning center. After his successful stint for hosting the famous AT&T National at Congressional Country Club in the year 2007, he began thinking on the lines of opening learning centers. But then due to recession he had to put his goals on hold. At the opening ceremony Woods was very amicable and polite to the children and answered their checked questions with interest and enthusiasm. There was no question related to his marriage and not winning a single tournament this year. |
Lincecum Gem Helps Giants Win NLDS Opener Vs. Braves Posted: 08 Oct 2010 08:52 PM PDT Jojo Doria – AHN Sports Contributor San Francisco, CA, United States (AHN) – Tim Lincecum pitched a two-hit shutout in his postseason debut, as the San Francisco Giants topped the Atlanta Braves 1-0 Thursday night, in Game 1 of their NL division series at AT&T Park. Lincecum (1-0), the reigning two-time NL Cy Young Award winner, hurled a two-hitter over nine frames, while fanning 14 and issuing a walk for the NL West champion Giants. San Francisco captured its seventh division title in franchise history on the last weekend of the regular season. San Francisco successfully fended off division-rival San Diego Padres on the final day of a 162-game schedule. The Giants provided Lincecum the only run he needed, when Cody Ross drove in the tilt’s lone run after a missed umpire call in the fourth inning. Ross’ single in the fourth enabled Buster Posey to score. Posey, who had a 21-game hitting streak this season and collected 18 homers, 67 RBI and a .305 batting average, was the only player to register two hits and score a run Thursday. Lincecum’s counterpart, playoff veteran Derek Lowe (0-1) also pitched well, but was saddled with the loss after giving up a lone run on four hits in 5 1-3 innings. Lowe also struck out six and issued four walks. The wild card-winning Braves are attempting to send outgoing manager Bobby Cox into retirement with his second World Series victory. The legendary Cox is making his 15th appearance in the postseason with the Braves. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Suns Interested In Acquiring Dampier, Center Visits Phoenix Posted: 08 Oct 2010 08:52 PM PDT Jojo Doria – AHN Sports Contributor Phoenix, AZ, United States (AHN) – The Phoenix Suns, looking to shore up their thin frontcourt, may find the answer in free agent center Erick Dampier, who reportedly visited Phoenix Thursday night. The Suns are bringing in the 6-foot-11, 265 pound Dampier for a visit, according to the Arizona Republic. Dampier, 35, and a starter for most of his NBA career, spanning 14 seasons, was dealt by the Dallas Mavericks to the Charlotte Bobcats in mid-July 2010 as part of a package. Seeking to avoid hitting the tax limit from his $13 million, non-guaranteed salary, the Bobcats released him last month. In his sixth and final year at Dallas, Dampier averaged 6.0 points, 7.3 rebounds and 1.4 blocks in 55 appearances, including 47 starts. In the last four seasons, Dampier shot over 60 percent, but he is not considered an offensive threat. Acquiring Dampier would help bulk up the Suns’ interior defense and improve their rebounding. The Suns have only Robin Lopez, the twin brother of Brook Lopez of the New Jersey Nets, as a true center in their roster. Last year, the Suns finished in second place for the third straight time in the Pacific Division. Phoenix ended the 2009 regular season with a 54-28 record and reached the playoffs after missing the postseason the previous year. The Suns succumbed to eventual NBA champion L.A. Lakers in six games in the Conference Finals. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Buddle Lifts Galaxy Over Union; Boosts L.A.`s Bid For West Title Posted: 08 Oct 2010 08:52 PM PDT Jojo Doria – AHN Sports Contributor Chester, PA, United States (AHN) – Edson Buddle slotted the eventual game-winner in the 27th minute, as the Los Angeles Galaxy escaped the Philadelphia Union 1-0 before a record crowd of 18,799 at PPL Park Thursday night in Major League Soccer action. It was the 16th goal for the 29-year-old forward, who converted a feed from David Beckham. Beckham, who shrugged off boos during the match, rocketed a curling shot that was met by Buddle, who in turn pounded it home at the far post to give the visiting Galaxy a 1-0 lead. The unfazed Union, who kept the pressure throughout the contest, came closest to scoring the equalizer in the 73rd minute when Sebastien Le Toux and Andrew Jacobson collaborated for a near goal. With the victory, the Galaxy (17-6-5) boosted their advantage over Real Salt Lake to five points in the race for the Supporter’s Shield. Apart from fortifying their bid for the top regular season honor, the win also increased L.A.’s chances in winning the Western Conference regular-season title. Despite the loss, the expansion Union (7-14-7) still has a chance to place as high as third in the Eastern Conference in its maiden campaign. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
