India vs Australia Day 4 Live Score: 2nd Test Match: First 20 Overs Roundup Posted: 11 Oct 2010 10:57 PM PDT Ind vs Aus Day 4 started with India batting strongly in its first innings replying to Australia's first innings score of 478. Tendulkar was playing at 191 heading steadily towards his double century and maybe triple by the end of the day. Dhoni, captain and wicket keeper, is smartly acting as a solid pillar to support Tendulkar's achievements for the day. Second test match has become a personal milestone for Tendulkar where he has accumulated 14,000 test runs on day 2, made his 49th century on day 3 and completed his 6th double ton on day four. India has crossed Australia's first innings total of 478 and were going strong but all of sudden things have started turning in Australia's favour when Sachin Tendulkar has been clean bowled by Australian bowler George at 214. Soon after, Harbhajan Singh has been caught by Australian Captain Ricky Ponting at his individual score of four at the bowling of Watson. George has struck again to take Zaheer Khan's wicket by getting him caught by Clarke. India are 494 at the loss of eight wickets within first 20 overs of the day. The things have turned back suddenly against India just after Tendulkar getting out. India are just 16 runs ahead of Australia's first innings score. Mahender Singh Dhoni is still intact batting at 30 runs with the tail ender and slow left arm bowler Pragyan Ojha batting but still has to open his account. It does not seem to carry on long now for Indian innings as India is at 494 for the loss of eight wickets. Now for records purposes the question left is will india cross psychological score of 500. If India crosses 500, then how much total score India will be able to make and the total lead now does not seem to be substantial with rest of the batting left.
Miscues Lead Titans Over Cowboys Posted: 11 Oct 2010 04:39 PM PDT Jojo Doria – AHN Sports Contributor Arlington, TX, United States (AHN) – Chris Johnson had two touchdown runs, including a one-yard TD with three minutes left in the fourth quarter that shattered a 27-all deadlock, as the Tennessee Titans trounced the Dallas Cowboys 34-27 Sunday at Cowboys Stadium. Johnson, who despite being held under 100 yards in two of his four contests this year, is still sixth in the NFL in rushing entering Sunday. He rushed for 131 yards and two scores on 19 carries for the Titans (3-2). Vince Young threw for 173 yards and a pair of scores for Tennessee, which continued its mastery over NFC opponents. The Titans have not lost to an NFC opponent since October of 2007 in a clash against Tampa Bay. Defense was key in the victory, the third of the last four overall for the Titans, who came up with six sacks and three interceptions Sunday. The Titans had three interceptions off Tony Romo, who completed 31-of-46 for 406 yards and had three TDs. Kenny Britt logged 86 yards and a TD reception on four grabs, while Nate Washington posted a 24-yard catch for a score in the win. Tennessee’s Rob Bironas drilled both his field goal attempts. Miles Austin led all receivers with nine grabs for 166 yards and a score, while Jason Witten and Roy Williams also hauled in TD passes for the Cowboys, who dropped to a 1-3 start. Magic Open New Arena With Rout, Pound Hornets In Exhibition Posted: 11 Oct 2010 04:39 PM PDT Jojo Doria – AHN Sports Contributor Orlando, FL, United States (AHN) – Rashard Lewis had 23 points, six boards, while Dwight Howard had a double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds, as the Orlando Magic crushed the New Orleans Hornets 135-81 in preseason play Sunday. J.J. Redick and Ryan Anderson also tallied 23 points apiece off the bench for the Magic (3-0), who remained perfect in exhibition. The Magic highlighted the coronation of the $480 million arena with a dominating performance, making 46-of-71 shots from the floor for a whooping 64.8 percent overall. Orlando also dominated the boards 44-31 and dished out 12 more assists than the Hornets with 15 helpers. Peja Stojakovic led the way for the Hornets by scoring 20 points off the bench, converting 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, while Emeka Okafor had 13 points in defeat. The Hornets were held to just 32.9 percent shooting, making 28-of-85 shots. New Orleans fell to 0-2 in regular-season tuneups. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved
Hull Overtakes Kerr For Navistar Victory Posted: 11 Oct 2010 03:16 PM PDT Tom Edrington – AHN Sports Reporter Prattville, AL, United States (AHN) – Australian Katherine Hull picked up her second career victory on the LPGA Tour with a final round 67 at the Navistar Classic. Hull started the final round three shots behind third-round leader Cristie Kerr. But Kerr struggled from the start after she turned the front nine with a one-over par 37 at the RTJ Trail’s Capitol Hill Senator course. The door was open for Hull but she had to outlast fast-closing Brittany Lincicome. Lincicome posted a seven-under par 65, the day’s best round and had to wait for Hull to finish. Lincicome posted an 18-under par total of 270 and failed the birdie the par five 17th. It would prove costly. Hull went bogey-free on her round and her birdie at the 17th proved the difference as she posted a 19-under par total of 269. Lincicome finished solo second while Kerr’s even par 72 left her two back at 17-under and tied with Na Yeon Choi. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved
Slocum Holds Off Challengers For McGladrey Win Posted: 11 Oct 2010 03:16 PM PDT Tom Edrington – AHN Sports Reporter Sea Island, GA, United States (AHN) – For a while, it looked like it would be a mere Sunday stroll in the park for Heath Slocum during the final round of the McGladrey Classic. But things got tight down the stretch at Sea Island and Slocum had to produce a miraculous birdie down the stretch to claim his fourth victory on the PGA Tour. Slocum held a four shot lead on the ninth hole after he birdied the fourth, fifth, seventh and eighth and stood at 16-under and seemingly on his way to an easy victory. But a bogey at that ninth hole opened the door for a host of challengers. After another bogey at 12, Slocum found himself in a three way tie for the lead with David Toms and Robert Allenby with last week’s winner, Bill Haas lurking. “I talked about weathering the storm,” Slocum said afterward and he was right in the center of it down the stretch. But he got some help from the other contenders. Toms saw his hopes fade away when he three-putted from just outside 13 feet at the 16th hole for bogey then added another when his five-iron tee shot at the par three 17th went way long. He was unable to get up and down for par. Allenby took himself out of the hunt with a double-bogey at 18. That left just Haas. “I three-putted at 14, then I made that eagle at 15,” Haas recounted. “I thought I had a shot.” Haas’ shot at it vanished when Slocum made an improbable birdie at the par four 15th. His second shot rolled off the green, onto the fringe 60 feet from the hole. His putt from there was rolling hard and it hit the pin squarely and wiggled into the hole for birdie. With the challengers fading, Slocum stood at the last hole with a two shot lead after pars at 16 and 17. He needed that cushion as his approach shot from the rough landed well short of the green and he missed from 10 feet for par. But bogey was good enough for two-under par 68 and the winning 14-under 266 total. Haas’ charge came up a stroke short. He finished solo second after a 66 for 267. Allenby and Toms finished at 12-under, 268 along with Arjun Atwal. Charlie Howell III had the day’s low round, an eight-under 62 that tied him with Bo Van Pelt and Joe Durant at 269, 11-under. But the day belonged to Slocum. “Making that putt at 16,” he said as he thought back over his round. “I hit some wayward shots today, but I’m overjoyed. I played great today.” Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved
Lions Coach Lauds Team For Total Effort In Dominant Win Vs. Rams Posted: 11 Oct 2010 03:16 PM PDT John Raffel – AHN Sports Correspondent Detroit, MI, United States (AHN) – Jim Schwartz finally saw his Detroit Lions put together a complete ballgame. The result was the team’s first win of the season, 44-6 over St. Louis Sunday at Ford Field. Stefan Logan’s 105-yard kickoff return for a touchdown, three Shaun Hill touchdown passes and three Jason Hanson field goals ignited the Lions. The Rams had only allowed 52 total points in their first four games combined. “After our first four games, we had played well in spurts but not well enough to win,” Schwartz said. “We had a lot of obstacles and were playing a team that plays outstanding defense. We succeeded in all three phases of the game, offense, defense and special teams. We wanted to make this team come from behind.” Hill was 21-of-32 for 227 yards and no interceptions. But his effort was almost overshadowed by the heroics of other Lions, including Logan. Prior to Logan’s return, St. Louis had just tied the game 3-3 on a 28-yard field goal by Josh Brown. Logan took the kick five yards in his own end zone and appeared to hesitate slightly before deciding to bring the ball out on what would be the first play of the second quarter. He appeared to be stopped at the 30, broke some tackles and raced the rest of the way. It was the first Lions’ kickoff return for a touchdown since 2007 and tied the record for the team’s longest kickoff return, which was set in 1998. “So many times, we’ve been one block away from getting him going,” Schwartz said. “It was an outstanding individual effort on his part.” Detroit recovered an onside kick attempt by St. Louis to open the game and used that for a 30-yard Hanson field goal. Midway in the second quarter, Lions quarterback Shaun Hill threw a 1-yard scoring pass to Calvin Johnson for a 17-3 lead. Brown added another 28-yard field goal prior to halftime. But the Lions stormed down the field and scored on Hill’s 3-yard pass to Brandon Pettigrew. Hill passed 26 yards to Nate Burleson early in the third quarter for another touchdown and a 31-6 Lions advantage. Hansen added field goals of 48 and 47 yards in the fourth quarter. His last field goal was set up on an interception by Lions rookie 6-foot-4, 307-pound defensive tackle Ndamukong Suh, who batted the ball in the air and returned the interception 20 yards. Alphonso Smith later returned a pass interception from Sam Bradford 42 yards for a touchdown. Jahvid Best led Detroit’s ground game with 67 yards on 18 attempts. Steven Jackson gained 114 yards on the ground for St. Louis but was kept out of the end zone. “It boils down to turnovers and penalties,” Jackson said. “We were not playing smart and were not protecting the ball. When you’re on the road and those things don’t go your way, it’s really hard to overcome.” Quarterback Sam Bradford was 23-of-45 for 215 yards. “We didn’t get a turnover today,” said Rams linebacker James Laurinaitis. “It seems kind of the opposite of the way things had kind of rolled for us. Before we’ve had turnovers and seemed to get more yards. It’s extremely frustrating.” Detroit is now 1-4. St. Louis, which had won two straight, is 2-2. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved
Bucs Top Bengals On Field Goal In Final Seconds; TO Has Trouble With Tweet Posted: 11 Oct 2010 03:16 PM PDT Jojo Doria – AHN Sports Contributor Cincinnati, OH, United States (AHN) – Connor Barth drilled on a 31-yard field goal with a second left, capping the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ rally to a 24-21 win over the Cincinnati Bengals Sunday at Paul Brown Stadium. Barth’s game-winner was made possible by quarterback Josh Freeman, who found Michael Spurlock with a stellar pass along the sideline for a 21-yard completion to the 13. Spurlock, who kept both toes inbounds for a falling-down catch that was upheld on review, put Tampa Bay deep in field goal range for the game-winner. Freeman threw for 280 yards on a 20-of-33 passing with one interception and a touchdown for the surprising Buccaneers, who improved to 3-1. Mike Williams, the recipient of Freeman’s 20-yard TD pass, finished with 99 yards on seven grabs, while Spurlock added three catches for 35 yards, including the reception that set up the game-winner. Bengals’ lapses were also key in the victory, allowing Tampa Bay to wipe out a seven-point deficit in the fourth before tying it at 21-21. Carson Palmer had three interceptions, including two in the final two minutes that gave the Buccaneers a second chance. Palmer, who racked up 371 yards but also two fumbles that resulted to two Browns field goals against Cleveland in Week 4, completed 21-of-36 for 209 yards against Tampa Bay. Cedric Benson registered 144 yards on 23 carries for the Bengals (2-3), while Terrell Owens tallied 102 yards and a TD on seven catches in defeat. Meanwhile, Owens, signed as free agent in the offseason, could be handed a fine by the NFL for violating the league’s rules against using social media before games. In his Twitter account, Owens wrote: “A lucky fan wearing my jersey 2day will get a signed football by Me & Ocho Cinco! My asst will pick U out!! Good luck!” The post was reportedly made inside the window ban, which is starting 90 minutes before kickoff. His teammate, Chad Ochocinco was docked a $25,000 for using his Twitter account during a preseason contests in August. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved
Federer Looks Rejuvenated For Shanghai Tilt Posted: 11 Oct 2010 03:16 PM PDT AHN Sports Staff Shanghai, China (AHN) – Former world No.1 Roger Federer hopes to recapture his old form, as he guns for another title at the 2010 Shanghai Masters starting Sunday. Fresh from a one-month break, Federer looks healthy and primed for another serious campaign at Shanghai Rolex Masters, an ATP World Tour Masters 1000 event. Despite dropping to No.3 in the world rankings, Federer is optimistic that he can still come up with another dominating performance in front of avid tennis fans at Qizhong Forest Sports City Arena in Shanghai, China. “I’m a strong believer that when I’m at my best I can beat anyone, I can even dominate anyone.” Federer told AFP Saturday. The 29-year-old Federer had several successful runs in Shanghai, which includes winning four titles at the season-ending ATP World Tour finals. Federer will be finishing the ATP season with just a single Grand Slam title (Australian Open), as reigning top-ranked Rafael Nadal captured three major championships, including his first U.S. Open title last August. Federer came short from booking his seventh U.S. Open finals appearance, losing to Novak Djokovic in a thrilling five-set semifinals match. However, Federer believes more are yet to come in a career, which already bagged 63 titles, including 16 Grand Slam championships. Aside from the Swiss Maestro, other top-tier tennis pros – including Nadal and Djokovic – are also expected to compete in the point-rich tournament. Five spots are still up for grabs at the ATP World Tour Finals in London, with Federer, Djokovic, and Nadal securing their places at the season-ending tennis event. Stewart Wins Pepsi Max 400, Chase Bid Not Up In Smoke Just Yet Posted: 11 Oct 2010 03:16 PM PDT Edward Lewis – AHN Sports Reporter Fontana, CA, United States (AHN) – When Tony Stewart gambled and ran out of gas one lap from the finish in the first race of The Chase, many left the two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup champion for dead. On Sunday at Auto Club Speedway, Stewart, nicknamed “Smoke,’ proved he is alive and well when he won the Pepsi Max 400, while continuing to gain ground on the Chase leaders. “Awesome day, obviously,” said Stewart. “I’ll be honest, when I woke up this morning I thought if we had a top 10 day that was going to be good, and if we ran in the top 5 today that was going to be an outstanding day.” While Clint Bowyer, who won at New Hampshire, finished nearly a half-second behind, four-time defending champion Jimmie Johnson ran third and extended his points lead to 36 over second-place Denny Hamlin. With his first Fontana win, Stewart closed to within 107 points of Johnson. Kasey Kahne ran fourth and Ryan Newman, Stewart’s teammate, gave Stewart Haas Racing a pair of top-five finishers. “There in a position where they’ve got nothing to lose. It’s all or nothing for them. I told you all two weeks ago in Dover that Tony (Stewart) could catch fire at any time,” said Hamlin. “It’s not surprising for me. That’s a great race team and Tony (Stewart), obviously knows how to step up when it’s game time.” While it was banner day for SHR, it was a day of misery for Roush Fenway Racing as all four of its drivers struggled. Chaser Matt Kenseth finished 30th, David Ragan ran 32nd, Chaser Carl Edwards ran 34th and Greg Biffle, coming off a win last week at Kansas, finished 41st with an expired engine. “The engine just let go at the end of the backstretch. I let up on the throttle going in the corner and it broke. It probably broke a rod,” said Biffle. “That’s typically what happens at the end of the backstretch when you lift on the throttle like that. It looked like maybe it windowed the block and the oil pan, so probably something in the lower unit.” Mark Martin ran sixth and was followed by Chasers Kevin Harvick, Hamlin, Jeff Gordon and non-Chaser David Reutimann to round out the top-10. The Busch Brothers, both in the Chase, struggled as well with Kurt Busch running 21st and kid brother Kyle coming in 35th. “That shows just how fast things can change out there. We definitely did not need those late cautions,” said Kurt Busch. “With 20 to go, it looked like we were going to come out of here with a solid top-10 finish, but it was not to be. We fought the car being too loose or too tight most of the day.” Chaser Jeff Burton finished 23rd. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved
Dixon Strolls To 12th NHRA Win Of Season Posted: 11 Oct 2010 03:16 PM PDT Edward Lewis – AHN Sports Reporter Mohnton, PA, United States (AHN) – Larry Dixon tallied his 12th Top Fuel victory of the year Sunday when he won in the finals of the Toyo Tires NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway. Joining Dixon in Victory Lane as class winners were Cruz Pedregon, Dave Connolly and Andrew Hines at the fourth of six playoff races in the NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Countdown to the Championship. The Top Fuel final didn’t lack for adventure as both dragsters loss traction, but Dixon outlasted Cory McClenathan for the title. Dixon’s dragster lost traction first, and McClenathan pulled away as his blower belt broke, enabling Dixon to cruise by for the photo-finish win. “Our car just hooked up,” Dixon said. “I had such a run on him, and I blew by him so fast. When I saw the win light come on, I was laughing and couldn’t believe it all at the same time because that’s a race you shouldn’t win, and I just won.” Pedregon scored his second victory in the postseason as he topped series points leader and national record holder Matt Hagan in the final round. Hagan now leads 14-time world champion, John Force. Connolly ended a two-year winless drought in Pro Stock by beating new series points leader Greg Anderson in the finals. Connolly made a winning run of 210.05 mph. “It was just an incredible weekend all together,” Connolly said. “Just to be out here is a lot of fun. I’ve definitely learned over the last couple of years that you don’t take anything for granted and just enjoy the weekends you do have out here because there’s a lot who are less fortunate than what I have.” In Pro Stock Motorcycle, Hines finally beat rival LE Tonglet in a playoff final round.
