Among the Top 100 NFL all Time Favorites, Tom Brady Ranks 21 Posted: 19 Oct 2010 10:36 PM PDT Tom Brady The NFL television network listed the top 100 players of all times and has placed the Patriots quarterback Tom Brady at no. 21. The legendary player will find mention and a feature dedicated to him when a special episode of 'The Top 100' will be shown on the television on Thursday Oct 21 at NFL Network and the timing is 9pm ET. Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, John Elway and Dan Marino are yet to be named in the list and it will be interesting to know where these signal-callers and quarterbacks that Brady has left behind will be placed. He is ranked higher than Steve Young, Terry Bradshaw, Bart Starr and Roger Staubach who are star players and have always performed as the best of them all in their own individual games. The greats who have been terrific quarterbacks get placed lower to him says something as the listing of top players always generates interest. Brady's capability to perform and deliver at the most crucial times of the game has got him where he is today. The pressure did not deter him and he went ahead to play for the team at all costs. The New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter was the surprise choice for making the announcement that Tom Brady has got the ranking as high as 21 among the top 100 NFL favorite players. Jeter has been an achiever himself and he did not miss the chance to praise Brady for the Patriots player who was out and out best when the times were testing. The ranking was very much deserved by him according to Jeter. The NFL top 100 all time players are now listed and the very performance greats have received rankings among the best and Tom Brady is the one at rank 21. |
Wayne Rooney to Join Barcelona or Real Madrid? Posted: 19 Oct 2010 10:04 PM PDT Wayne Rooney Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly released a statement about the key Striker Wayne Rooney who has expressed his desire to terminate his contract with them and leave Old Trafford. The contract between Wayne Rooney and Red Devils club is valid till the end of next season. Rooney, who will be celebrating his 25th birthday, next week, has strongly declined to sign a new contract with the Red Devils. Rooney played for Everton for three years, 2001 to 2003 seasons, arrived at Manchester United in 2004 and has been playing for Red Devils since then. After seven years of his long stretch with Red Devils club, probably Rooney would not be available for them for the next season onwards. Ferguson, reportedly, is said to be the main reason for this bitterness in the professional relations developed between may key players besides Rooney and the club. Rooney was at his best during 2009 season when he shot 34 goals in the 44 matches he played for United. Rooney, one of the best forward players for the club, developed an ankle problem earlier and that is one of the reason that this season out of his five appearances in the Premier League matches, he has been able to register just a single goal. Ferguson seated Rooney in many of the recent matches of the club, after later developed an ankle injury and that probably has annoyed the striker. Rooney under his credentials has many impressive wins like three times Premiere League cup and 2007 UEFA Champions League cup to name a few. He will reportedly be a sitting player in the next match against Bursaspor on Wednesday. Rooney's new contract would either be with Real Madrid or Barcelona as seen as the most probable's for him. |
Wrangler Pulls Favre Ads From NFL Broadcasts Posted: 19 Oct 2010 04:30 PM PDT Kareem Shaker – AHN Sports Reporter Minneapolis, MN, United States (AHN) – n lieu of recent allegations, Wrangler Jeans pulled all of its Brett Favre commercials off NFL broadcasts Sunday. Favre, recently accused of sending a Jets employee illicit texts and pictures, only appeared in commercials airing on “niche” channels Versus, FX, Speed and the History Channel. The alleged texts were sent to Jenn Sterger, a game-day host for the Jets during Favre’s time in New York in 2008. Wrangler replaced the usual Favre spots with commercials featuring Dale Earnhardt Jr. on NFL broadcasts. While Wrangler initially stood by Favre following the revelation, its is believed the company is attempting to distance itself from the controversy until the outcome is known. Favre, the Minnesota Vikings quarterback, is expected to meet with NFL Vice President of Security Milt Ahlerich to determine if the 20-year pro violated the league’s personal conduct policy. A subsequent suspension would end Favre’s consecutive games started record at 290. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
UNC Tight End Pianalto Out For Season With Broken Leg Posted: 19 Oct 2010 04:30 PM PDT Kareem Shaker – AHN Sports Reporter Chapel Hill, NC, United States (AHN) – North Carolina Tar Heels senior tight end Zack Pianalto will miss the remainder of the regular season with a fractured right fibula suffered during UNC’s 44-10 rout at Virginia Saturday. Pianalto, who leads the Tar Heels with 30 receptions for 311 yards, suffered the injury in the second quarter with 2:35 left following a seven-yard reception. “He has a fractured fibula and he will be out for the season,” head coach Butch Davis told reporters during his weekly Monday morning press conference. “It’s really a shame. He is such a terrific kid. There’s almost nobody in this program that puts more heart and soul into playing and preparing and practicing and goes out there and plays as hard as he (Pianalto) does.” Pianalto, an honorable mention All-ACC selection last season, is the seventh player UNC lost for the season to either injury or the ongoing NCAA investigation. Linebacker Quan Sturdivant has not played since Sept. 25 because of a hamstring injury. Cornerback LeCount Fantroy injured his left shoulder, also against Virginia. Cornerback Kendric Burney is serving a six -game suspension by the NCAA for receiving agent-related benefits. Senior Ryan Taylor, senior Ed Barham and sophomore Nelson Hurst replace Pianalto, who may still be able to return if UNC qualifies for a Bowl Game. The Tar Heels (4-2) take a four-game winning streak to Miami (FL) Saturday. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |

Analyst: Clips` Griffin Already Among NBA`s Top Power Forwards Posted: 19 Oct 2010 04:30 PM PDT AHN Sports Staff Los Angeles, CA, United States (AHN) – With his strings of impressive performance in preseason games, 2009 first-overall pick Blake Griffin continued to draw good reviews from critics, including one who thinks he’s already among the NBA’s best power forwards. Griffin, 21, is set to make his long-due NBA debut roughly two weeks from now after spending over a year on the sideline rehabbing his knee. Even before he entered the draft, the Oklahoma Sooners star was already hyped as one of the most athletic big men to come out of college. The 6-foot-10, 215 pound Griffin possesses athleticism and sound all-around basketball skills. Aside from his explosiveness and mobility on the shaded lane, Griffin can also knock down shots from the wing, making him a threat in the low post and on the perimeter. However a cloud of doubt also shrouded his future in the NBA due to the knee ailment. Griffin also had a scare Saturday in suffering an ankle injury. It was not believed to be serious, however, and though Griffin sat out Sunday’s loss to the Nuggets. After a year of hard work on rehab, Griffin finally proved his worth as the first overall pick of the previous draft in this preseason, which saw him posting double-doubles every single night. Griffin showed he’s beyond an athletic stud, who can dominate a game at will. ESPN analyst Bill Simmons even thinks Griffin is already among the best power forward in the league, behind Pau Gasol, Chris Bosh, Dirk Nowitzki, and Tim Duncan. “Call me a sucker, call me a fool. I don’t care,” Simmons wrote. “Griffin cannot be hyped enough. He’s already one of the best five power forwards in the league. Simmons added he would have been the third best player in the Team USA roster, who won the World Championship gold last August, if he did not opt out to keep his offseason preparation going. After a handful of preseason games, everybody realizes the talent Griffin has. He’s a ‘baller, and based from current reviews, he’s the future of the NBA at the pivot. Virginia Men`s Basketball Squad Loses Zeglinski To Knee Surgery Posted: 19 Oct 2010 04:30 PM PDT Kareem Shaker – AHN Sports Reporter Charlottesville, VA, United States (AHN) – The Virginia Cavaliers will be without their team leader in three-pointers, assists and steals the past two seasons when Sammy Zeglinski undergoes surgery Tuesday to repair damaged cartilage in his left knee. Zeglinski injured the knee during a preseason workout earlier this month and could miss up to 8-12 weeks. “I feel for Sammy,” Virginia coach Tony Bennett said in a statement. “He has worked hard to get ready for this season and he’s an integral part of our team. I know he’ll work hard and be diligent about his rehabilitation.” For a team that went just 15-16 (5-11 ACC) last season, losing a team-high 61 3-pointers, 80 assists and 38 steals could be crippling. Zeglinski, who averaged 8.9 points and 3.8 rebounds last season, will be replaced in the starting lineup by either Mustapha Farrakhan, Jontel Evans or freshman Billy Baron. The Cavaliers start their season Nov. 6 against Roanoke College at home. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
