Initial reports differed due to an earlier statement from Cards’ coach Rick Pitino: “After lengthy conversations with Samardo and his family, they would like to have him test the waters with the NBA draft. He will not hire an agent and I will orchestrate his NBA visits from my office. I have reviewed the status where Samardo stands at this time and all aspects of the process with his family. I respect his family’s wishes to test the waters and support them 100 percent.” However, recent reports suggest the 6-for-9, 260 lb. native Jamaican will forgo his junior season in favor of the Draft. South Africa vs Afghanista ICC T20 Live Score: SA in a Must Win Game Posted: 05 May 2010 12:12 PM PDT Afghanistan vs South Africa South Africa clashes with Afghanistan in Barbados on Wednesday to ensure a ticket to the super eight in the ICC T20 World Cup 2010. Both the teams are in a must win situation after their respective defeats against India. The Proteas hope to set right the rue lapses in the field and batting incompetence that happened in St. Lucia. The Afghanistan vs South Africa game is set to take place in Bridgetown, which is supportive of fast bowling. The pitch conditions are conducive for seam-strong attack, and Afghanistan's weakness against the short ball was exposed by Ashish Nehra. Though they tried to fight back the Indian attack, with just two batsmen reaching double-figures in a score of 115, could not match the opposition's caliber. Dayle Steyn would be South Africa'a trump card for the match whereas Shappor Zadran is the player to look out for in the Afghan team. Their struggles off the field, and success against the odds on it, Afghanistan surely has become a hot favourite among cricket fans. Afghanistan vs South Africa contest is definitely a do or die game for both as it decides their fate ahead in the tournament. |
Bud Light To Replace Coors As NFL’s Official Beer Sponsor Posted: 05 May 2010 11:58 AM PDT United States (AHN) – The National Football League has agreed to a six-year exclusive sponsorship deal with Anheuser-Busch’s Bud Light, the league announced Tuesday. The Wall Street Journal reported Bud Light shelled out $1.2 billion to replace Coors as the "official and exclusive beer sponsor" of the NFL. The deal also extended Anheuser-Busch’s exclusive right on Super Bowl advertising, which will expire in 2012. “The NFL is the biggest, most watched sport in North America, and we are proud for Bud Light, the world’s best selling beer, to be the league’s official beer sponsor,” said Anheuser-Busch’s President Dave Peacock. Anheuser-Busch, the biggest brewing company in the USA, was the league's official beer sponsor from 1988 to 2001 – including some seasons when it shared the distinction with Miller. Coors, which became the league's exclusive sponsor since 2002, said the company plans to move on after failing to extend its sponsorship tie with the NFL. Bud Light will assume the rights to use the league's logo and trademark for its marketing campaign when the six-year deal begins in the 2011 season. Cavs Star LeBron To Have MRI On Elbow For Second Time Posted: 05 May 2010 11:22 AM PDT AHN Sports Staff Cleveland, OH, United States (AHN) – Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James will undergo a second MRI examination to check out his banged up right elbow, multiple sources reported Wednesday. James, 25, will have the MRI examination for the second time this postseason to evaluate an elbow injury he may have reaggravated. After the Cavs eliminated the Chicago Bulls last week, James underwent an MRI exam, which revealed a strain and a bone bruise in his right elbow. James, who received his second straight MVP award Monday, averaged 31.1 points, 8.6 boards, and 7.4 dimes in the playoffs. However, his Cavs face a much tougher opponent in the second round as they renew a bitter rivalry with the Boston Celtics. James’ 35 points led the Cavs to a 101-93 win in game one, but the Celtics leveled the series in game two 104-86 behind Rojon Rondo’s franchise-best 19 dimes. Cavs guard Mo Williams said LeBron is OK physically and will continue to play aggressively throughout the series. Game 3 of the Cavs-Celtics series is scheduled for Friday (8 p.m.) at T.D Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Fulham vs Stoke City Live Game Begins: Enjoy the Soccer Posted: 05 May 2010 11:15 AM PDT Fulham vs Stoke City The Barclays Premier League would witness Fulham taking on Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium on Wednesday May 5. The Europa League finalists Fulham have definitely an edge over the latter as is evident from their past performances. Fulham has won four out of their last five League games. Team manager Roy Hodgson already has plans to reshuffle his men ahead of the Europa League final against Atlético Madrid in Hamburg a week on Wednesday. Though Andrew Johnson is out for the season and Bobby Zamora has been given rest to recover from the recurrence of an Achilles injury, Fulham is still in good form. Stoke, who shocked Fulham at the Britannia Stadium in January before winning 3-2, have failed to score in their last two games and lost 7-0, at Chelsea. Captain Abdoulaye Faye's injury remains a cause of concern for the team as he seems doubtful for the clash. He could not be part of Saturday’s goalless draw with Everton due to a thigh strain. In the Fulham vs Stoke City game too, Asmir Begovic will continue to replace Thomas Sorensen, who is recovering from a dislocated elbow. |
Yanks` Posada Could Go On DL With Calf Strain; Joba Gets Second Straight Save Posted: 05 May 2010 09:46 AM PDT AHN Sports Staff New York, NY, United States (AHN) – New York Yankees catcher Jorge Posada might be headed on the disabled list after sustaining a mild calf strain Monday, a major sports media outlet reported Tuesday. Posada, 38, left in the sixth inning of Yankees 4-1 victory over the Baltimore Orioles with a mild right calf strain. Yankees manager Joe Girardi said they will re-evaluate Posada’s condition after taking a two-day rest. Posada, five-time MLB all-star, also missed two games last week after Orioles right-hander Jeremy Guthrie accidentally hit his knee last Wednesday. Girardi said Posada looks fine but will still undergo various treatments over the next days. The Yankees still believe Posada will return soon, as they decided not to call up a replacement catcher from a minor league affiliate. Backup catcher Francisco Cervelli would continue to start for the Yankees until Posada returns to the lineup. Meanwhile, right-hander Joba Chamberlain helped the Yankees seal a 4-1 victory over the Orioles Tuesday by earning his second straight save. Chamberlain, 24, collected his third career save – in the ninth inning to close out the match for the Yankees. Chamberlain (0-1, ERA 2.92) allowed one hit and struck out two in the inning in place of Mariano Rivera, who is resting a stiff left side. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Wrist Surgery Sidelines Del Potro Posted: 05 May 2010 06:25 AM PDT Corine Gatti – AHN Sports Contributor Rochester, MN, United States (AHN) – Argentina’s tennis star Juan Martín del Potro underwent wrist surgery Tuesday at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, according to reports. Del Potro, who has not played since the Australian Open in January, decided after going through rigorous therapy to resolve the pain to make a trip to the states, a report from the New York Times said. According to published reports, del Potro could miss up to four months of tourney play, the meat of the season, including the French Open and Wimbledon. The fifth-ranked del Potro could miss defending his title in the U.S. Open that starts late August, where he upset Roger Federer in September. The absence could send del Potro out of the top 20. “As you can all understand, this is not a happy moment in my life,” del Potro, 21, said in a statement. “But I’m accustomed to fight through adversity and I have all the strength to get through this and move forward.” Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Red Sox Pitcher Lackey Takes On Former Halos Club Wednesday Posted: 05 May 2010 05:52 AM PDT Corine Gatti – AHN Sports Contributor Boston, MA, United States (AHN) – Boston Red Sox pitcher John Lackey will face old friends Wednesday at Fenway Park, his former team-the Los Angeles Angels. Lackey, who held a 102-71 record and a 3.81 ERA for the Angels during his seven-year stay in Southern California, said it won’t be too emotional pitching against his former ‘mates. “It’s going to be fun,” Lackey told MLB.com. “That’s kind of the way things go these days. I’m happy to be here and I enjoyed my time in L.A. as well. It should be a fun challenge.” Lackey, who is 2-1, with a 4.50 ERA this season, is also not worried about the rotation order, following Josh Beckett and Jon Lester for the Red Sox. “I know what I am; I know what I’ll be in the end. It doesn’t matter,” Lackey said. “It matters about being in the playoffs and pitching in meaningful games.” In Boston every game seems meaningful, as the team looks to improve its 13-14 record, Although the Red Sox have won their last two games, the Angels are 12-16 and have dropped five straight. “I always enjoyed pitching in big games, playoff situations and it’s pretty much like that every night here. It’s definitely a motivating factor for sure, if you’re somebody that needed one,” Lackey added. Lackey came to Boston in free-agency, officially inking a five-year contract in December. Aus vs Ban ICC T20 Live Score: Australia to Clear the Way to Super Eight in Points Table Posted: 05 May 2010 04:48 AM PDT Australia vs Bangladesh Australia takes on Bangladesh to seal a place in the second round of the ICC T20 world cup tournament. After the thumping 34 run victory over Pakistan, the Aussies are confident that they would overcome the Bangladeshi challenge and have almost ensured there will be no repeat of their first-round exit in this event last year. The Australia vs Bangladesh match would take place in Barbados and both the teams expect better pitch conditions compared to that of St.Lucia. Bangladesh is in need of strong victory in order to qualify to the higher level. The defeat at the hands of Pakistan by 21 runs on Saturday has left them with a low net run-rate at -1.05. Their chances of a victory are also not high given the fact that they have lost 11 Twenty20s in a row. Team Australia is now definitely on a high after a strong start. Star players like Shane Watson and David Hussey's batting performances, as well as Shaun Tait, Dirk Nannes and Mitchell Johnson's bowling excellence are giving them surely an upper hand. However, an elbow infection has lowered the probability of Johnson being in this match. This Australia vs Bangladesh offers an opportunity for both the teams to take out their best, and if Australia gets the advantage their entry into the super eight is stamped. |
