Chelsea vs Wigan at Premier League: Chelsea Won Against Wigan, Drogba Became the Hat-Trick Man Posted: 09 May 2010 11:03 PM PDT Chelsea vs Wigan LONDON: For the Premier League title of soccer, Chelsea defeat 10-man Wigan Athletic 8-0, with Didier Drogba (hat-trick man) & a double from Nicolas Anelka on Sunday. The win signified that they ended a point in front of Manchester United, who defeated Stoke City 4-0. When Drogba led the 5th, it took Chelsea close to 100 goals for the season and it is the 1st time when any team has arrived at the symbol in the English top flight since 1963. A Drogba free-kick stroke the wall, but as Frank Lampard returned the ball to the box, Florent Malouda, who was probably at the offside, hit the ball down for Anelka to clear in. Wigan, fielding an unknown 3-at-the-back pattern, started to dominate ownership, even though without ever in reality posing a warning and the game was as good as finished as a competition 32 minutes later. Lampard was dragged downwards in the box by Gary Caldwell, who was sent off, and stood up to throw in his 22nd Premier League goal of the season. Drogba hardly celebrated, apparently angry as he hadn’t been provided the opportunity to take the penalty to rise his opportunities as finishing as the Premier League’s top scorer. Kalou added a 3rd goal 9 minutes later half-time following an efficient one-two with Lampard. After 2 minutes, Anelka volleyed a superb 4th from Branislav Ivanovic’s cross. Drogba led 5th one from a Lampard cross later 63 minutes, and then changed a fine after Ashley Cole had been journeyed 5 minutes later. Didier Drogba finished his hat-trick when there were10 minutes left. That took him in this season to 29 and hence made him the Premier League’s lead gainer. Chelsea had made 7on three prior games this season; this time they went to 8, their largest top-division victory, as Ashley Cole volleyed in a Joe Cole cross in the last minute. United performed enough with a lot of capability and goals from Darren Fletcher & Ryan Giggs taking 2-0 up at half-time against Stoke. A Danny Higginbotham own-goal & a Park Ji-Sung header expanded their lead to 4-0, but it was too little, too late. Arsenal held on to 3rd as Robin van Persie, Andrei Arshavin, a Chris Baird own-goal & Alberto Vela assisted them to a 4-0 win over Fulham, while 4th positioned Tottenham Hotspur wasted a 2-0 lead to lose 4-2 at referred Burnley. At the 5th position there was Manchester City with a 1-1 draw at West Ham United; the 6th position is gained by Aston Villa. On Sunday, for the Premier League title of soccer, Chelsea defeat Wigan with Didier Drogba (hat-trick man) & a double from Anelka. |
ICC T20 Results Ind vs WI: Home-Team Washed the Anticipations of India by 14 Runs Posted: 09 May 2010 10:08 PM PDT India vs West Indies Among the Group F & the 19th match of ICC World Cup 2010, yesterday, there was the cricket-battle between India vs West Indies in which the home-team won the match against India by 14 runs. CH Gayle (West Indies) became the man of the match as he scored 98 runs in 66 bowls (5 fours & 7 sixes). West Indies scored 169 runs at the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs whereas Indians could make only 155 runs at the loss of 9 wickets in 20 overs. Toss: Indian Captain, MS Dhoni won the toss but unfortunately he did not take the right decision. He chose bowling first but this judgment did not prove correct and they lost the match against home-team. Indian Counterpart: After West Indies scored 169 runs, then for the opening of the match Vijay & Gambhir of India came on the pitch. Vijay scored 7 while Gambhir scored 15 runs. Raina scored the highest 32 runs, RG Sharma made 5 runs, Yuvraj made 12, Dhoni 29, Pathan 17, Harbhajan made 14 runs, Jadeja scored 5 runs and was not out. Nehra & Khan did not score a single. With 19 extras, Indians only scored a total of 155 runs. West Indies Sammy, Taylor, Bravo, Pollard, Gayle & Benn took one wicket and Roach took 2 wickets. West Indies Counterpart: To start the innings of the 19th match of ICC T20 World Cup, Gayle & Chanderpaul came on the pitch. Gayle scored 98 runs while Chanderpaul scored 23 runs. Sammy made 19 runs, Pollard 17, Bravo 1, Sarwan and Hinds scored 0 & Ramdin scored 4 runs. Including 7 extras, the whole team scored a sum of 169 runs. Indian Khan & Jadeja took single wicket each while Nehra took 3 wickets. Final Words: The loss poured an ill-effect on Indians of facing an early quit for the 3rd direct worldwide ICC World Cup 2010 Tournament, and the similar questions over batting system which were highlighted followed the removal from World Twenty20 2009 will be asked once more. West Indies can relax in the shine of overwhelming India, but their celebrations-time will be disturbed by the findings that they are yet likely to require to beat Australians to go forward to the semi-finals in the ICC T20 World Cup 2010. |

The Canucks converted 1-of-6 power play attempts while the Blackhawks were unable to convert on four opportunities. Christian Ehrhoff and Alexandre Burrows also scored for the Canucks, who emerged victorious despite losing defenseman Sami Salo. Nash Shrugs Off Swollen Eye, Leads Suns In Sweep Of Spurs In West Semis Posted: 09 May 2010 09:49 PM PDT San Antonio, TX, United States (AHN) – Steve Nash could barely see through his right eye after being stitched up, but poured in 10 of his 20 points in the fourth quarter, helping the Phoenix Suns sweep the San Antonio Spurs and advance to the Western Conference finals with a 107-101 win Sunday at AT&T Center. The former two-time NBA MVP was inadvertently struck above his right eye by Tim Duncan's elbow in the third period. After exiting to the locker room to receive six stitches for the bloodied eye, Nash returned to the bench with less than two minutes left in the third. It marked the first time that the 36-year-old Nash, a seven-time All-Star, has recorded a postseason series triumph over the Spurs, who had dominated the nine times the two teams collided in the postseason. Prior to Sunday's conquest, the San Antonio had captured six, including the last four postseason matchups. Amare Stoudemire led the way with 29 points and five rebounds for the Suns. Jared Dudley added 16 points and grabbed six boards off the bench, while Jason Richardson finished with 11 points and eight rebounds for the victors. Tony Parker scored 22 to pace the Spurs, while Duncan and George Hill each tallied 17 points in the setback. Phoenix faces either Los Angeles or Utah in the Western finals. Reds Pitcher Leake Continues To Impress; Improves To 3-0 With Win Vs. Cubs Posted: 09 May 2010 09:47 PM PDT Nathan Smith – AHN Sports Reporter Cincinnati, OH, United States (AHN) – Mike Leake has become a pitching threat for the Cincinnati Reds straight out of college. The Arizona State product was selected in the seventh round of the 2006 draft by the Oakland Athletics but chose to stay in school. In 2009 he was selected by the Reds with the eighth overall pick in the 2009 draft, giving him $2.8 signing bonus. Leake is the first player to be selected out of the MLB draft to gain a position on the roster without a stop in the minors since 2003. He showcased his arm in the spring as a non-roster invitee and competed for the fifth pitching opening. In a crowded race that included veterans Mike Lincoln and Justin Lehr, Leake got the job. He has started the 2010 campaign strong. With a 3.10 ERA and a 3-0 record, he has been putting up impressive numbers. He has struck out 20 compared to walking five in his last 27 innings. The righty brought a shutout into the seventh Sunday before he threw a wild pitch with a runner on third. The runner scored and a Tyler Colvin homer off Leake plated the Cubs two more runs. His stat line was still terrific though: seven innings, with just four hits and three runs allowed. Leake is fast becoming a major success, even without the help of first pitching in the minors. Laimbeer Gets Interview Nod For 76ers Coaching Position Posted: 09 May 2010 09:47 PM PDT Jojo Doria – AHN Sports Contributor Philadelphia, PA, United States (AHN) – Former Pistons player Bill Laimbeer, who is trying to work his way up from being a coach of a WNBA team, is on the list of candidates for the Philadelphia 76ers’ head coaching job. He will be interviewed Sunday. Laimbeer, who established his coaching credentials by winning a few titles with the Detroit Shock of the WNBA, will be assessed personally by Sixers GM Ed Stefanski Sunday. Stefanski will meet with former Toronto Raptors coach Sam Mitchell before interviewing Laimbeer, who is currently an assistant coach with the Minnesota Timberwolves. After retiring from the game in 1994, the former four-time NBA All-Star took over the head coaching job for the Shock in 2002, replacing Greg Williams, who led the team to a woeful 0-10 start that season. Following a roster overhaul, coupled with Laimbeer’s no-nonsense type of defense, the Shock captured their first WNBA championship, the first WNBA expansion franchise to accomplish the feat. It also marked the first time in WNBA history that a team other than Los Angeles or Houston took home the coveted WNBA championship crown, eventually earning Laimbeer the Coach of the Year award. Laimbeer, known for his aggressive defense during his playing days in the NBA, as part of the Pistons’ “Bad Boys”, is viewed by many as the answer to the Sixers’ lack of mental toughness and struggling defense. He played for the Pistons when they won back-to-back NBA titles (1989 and 1990) not because they were the most talented in the league, but because former coach Chuck Daly’s wards played smart and tough during that period. On Monday, Phoenix Suns assistant coach Dan Majerle and Monty Williams, Portland Trail Blazers assistant coach, will be interviewed. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
