That’s all basically I can say. You just have to try to be patient and wait for the shadows like I did.”

A huge upset was observed as 16th seeded Marcos Baghdatis crashed out of the US Open in a match against much lower ranked Arnaud Clement 3-6, 6-2, 6-1, 4-6, 7-5 in 5 gruelling sets.

So Michael Jordan makes some news beyond his basket ball ground too, though not because of his sports skills. He is in the news because of his son, Marcus Jordan, and his extravagant ways of giving away.

His son, Marcus Jordan, displayed about his lavish life style on Twitter some days back. Now, the buzz is that the Nevada officials are looking into this matter regarding how this 19 year old chap spent so much into such lifestyle.
According to the reports, Marcus Jordan, who is just 19 year old has spent around $35,000 at Haze Nightclub in Las Vegas, and another $15,000 on unidentified "other" items within a day.

And Michael Jordan in a reaction to his son's lavish life style said that "I'm still good".

Markling is reportedly "examining whether the casino operator violated laws prohibiting drinking or gambling by minors".

Jordan, after spending so much had the audacity to post it on his Twitter account that "Last night was stupid … 35k at Haze." And if $35,000 was not enough, he gave Twitter followers his running numbers "Totals 50k something the whole day.. D–mn!! Going to the pool again today.. Gotta relax!"

Though, he didn't get any strong criticism from his followers so the reaction of his extravagance is still not so clear on his fans and followers but he added that, "My family and friends know the type of person I am."

He twittered the following comment after being charged.

“I look forward to challenging the Governments accusations, and hope people will keep an open mind until trial. I appreciate the support I have been getting. I am happy to finally have my day in court.”

Indianapolis, IN, United States (AHN) – Tragedy struck the MotoGP race Sunday after a crash claimed the life of a teen motorcycle rider during a warmup lap at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Peter Lenz, 13, of Vancouver, Wa., died after sustaining injuries in a crash before the start of the U.S. Grand Prix Riders Union race.

The incident occurred sometime about 10:20 a.m. after Lenz, who had emerged as one of America’s youngest rising stars, fell off his bike and was struck by another rider.

The other rider, Xavier Zayat, 12, was not injured. Zayat did not race after the crash.

Medical personnel attended to the injured Lenz, who was eventually rushed to a nearby hospital where he died three hours later.

It marked the first death at the historic track since IndyCar driver Tony Renna was killed in testing in October 2003.

Lenz, who was scheduled to race in a U.S. Grand Prix Racers Union event and then the world championship races, was returning this season after suffering serious injuries in a crash last season.

Last year’s crash at the Portland International Raceway in Oregon caused him to miss most of the 2009 season.

Lenz had ruled four of the first 12 races in his return, and was leading in points in the USGPRA standings.

Lenz started racing after receiving his first motorcycle when he was 5.

He became the youngest licensed expert racer in American Federation of Motorcyclists history at the age of 11, and also the youngest to win an AFM race.

The USGPRU is a development circuit for motorcycle racers from ages 12-18. The organization, which sanctions races across the country, aims to produce riders who will compete at higher levels.

Resilient Rays Rally Again, Roll Past Red Sox

Posted: 31 Aug 2010 05:13 AM PDT

Todd Callahan – AHN Sports Reporter

St. Petersburg, FL, United States (AHN) – Carl Crawford went 2-for-4 and hit a two-run homer to tie the game, and Dan Johnson had the game-winning RBI for the second night in a row to lead the Tampa Rays to a 5-3 victory over the Boston Red Sox Sunday at Tropicana Field.

The Rays (80-50) remained tied for the lead in the American League East with the New York Yankees after taking two of three from the Red Sox over the weekend.

The Red Sox, who were looking to gain ground in the standings with a weekend trip to St. Petersburg, dropped to 6 1-2 games off the pace heading into a three-game series in Baltimore Tuesday.

For the second game in a row, the Red Sox blew a lead.

Boston pitcher John Lackey, who took the loss, owned a 3-1 advantage heading into the bottom of the sixth, but he gave up three runs in that frame and the Rays never trailed again.

It was a disappointing start for Lackey, who gave up nine hits and five runs over 6 1-3 innings, walking three and striking out seven.

The Boston starter allowed just three hits, including a solo home run by Carlos Pena, for the first five innings but ran into trouble in the pivotal sixth inning.

After giving up a one-out single to Ben Zobrist, Crawford drilled an 0-1 Lackey pitch into right center field for his 15th home run of the season, erasing the deficit.

Evan Longoria followed with a ground-rule double, and Johnson capped the three-run inning with a run-scoring single to center field to give the Rays the lead.

“I was really getting pitched tough tonight and came up there in that situation with the bases loaded, and I really [focused] and finally got a pitch I thought I could do something with and found a hole with it,” Johnson told mlb.com.

The Red Sox, who have Monday off, have 31 games left in their season. They have three games withe Rays left at Fenway Park and have six remaining with the Yankees.

However, the BoSox have struggled against the top two teams in the division. Boston is 5-10 against Tampa and 4-7 against the Yankees

“Again, what happened tonight is a disappointment — we lost,” said Red Sox manager Terry Francona. “Now we’ll regroup, take our day off and see if we can win the next game. That’s the best way to do it. That’s why we talk about it.”

Earning the win for the Rays was James Shields (13-11). The Tampa starter, who became the Rays’ all-time wins leader with 56 victories, worked 6 2-3 innings and allowed three runs on seven hits.

He also struck out eight.

“It means a lot,” Shields said of the team record. “This organization has given me the opportunity to be able to pitch as long as I have here and hopefully I get a ton more. It definitely means a lot, but my focus right now is to go to the playoffs and win a World Series.”

Celebrated pitcher Roger Clemens claims innocence and duping the Congress

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 01:00 PM PDT

In response to his bill of indictment Roger Clemens, the stalwart baseball player of his times, claimed not blameworthy to the U.S. District Judge Reggie Walton saying he beguiled the Congress about usage of banned substances while he was still playing.

There was a time during his illustrious career of 24 fruitful years when the pitcher, seven-time receiver of Cy Young Award, registered 354 wins (ninth all-time), 4,672 strikeouts (third) and a fabulous 3.12 run average achieved in 2007 before he bid the game farewell.

The athlete may be sentenced to remain 30 years behind the bars and a cash penalty of $1.5-million to be paid by him. The dubious remarks he made thrice, two charges of false testimony as well as stalling of the proceedings of the Congress all go against his reputation earned as a successful baseball player leading to his trial. In 2008 the Oversight and Government Reform committee recorded his oath as he had “never taken steroids or HGH” but these statements figuring in the "Mitchell Report" were found to be contradictory to those of his former trainer, Brian McNamee and Andy Pettitte claiming that he was lying.

His counter statement to prove himself on Twitter was “I look forward to challenging the Governments accusations, and hope people will keep an open mind until trial. I appreciate the support I have been getting. I am happy to finally have my day in court.”

Roger Clemens is vehemently keeping his stand on the fact that he lied to the Congress about taking HGH, or human growth hormone to boost his performance as a player yet not accusable in these cases.

The recent Pakistan's spot-fixing scandal did not only lead to generation of anger vibes around the country of Pakistan, but also provoked various former Cricket captains and professionals to shoot their annoyance by raising questions over the whole team of Pakistan. They are highly angry with such a kind of corruption and ask to wipe off such performers who show an injustice to the game.

“England will not want to play against them and the public will be suspicious of anything out of the ordinary. The matches would have no credibility as it has been alleged that two of the one-day internationals have been rigged already,” wrote in his reaction Former England skipper Michael Vaughan.

Questions of explanations and demands of lifetime ban have been raised against the players taken up in the investigation – Pakistan captain Salman Butt, bowlers Mohammad Aamir and Mohammad Asif. It is also a debatable point about the faithfulness of the upcoming matches and that of the next month's ODI series between England and Pakistan.

What more the former England player Vaughan has to comment is: “The game has to be cleaned up. This is the chance to change the game forever and stamp this kind of thing out. Finally, the game’s administrators cannot run and hide. The only way the game will move forward is by hitting those involved with life bans if they are found guilty.”

Asif Involved in Spot-Fixing: Ex-Girlfriend

Posted: 30 Aug 2010 12:55 AM PDT

Veena Malik and Mohammed Asif

Veena Malik and Mohammed Asif

Muhammad Asif's troubled times are less than over it seems. There have been fresh allegations in his name regarding his involvement with bookmakers. This time the source is formidable as well. His ex-girlfriend, famous Pakistani actor, Veena Malik ascertained in no uncertain means his links with known bookmakers in very recent times. She even claimed that she is not speaking on a grave issue such as this without any conclusive proof.

Veena, whose break-up with Asif  this year was a favourite of media earlier this year, stated that the Pakistani cricketer Asif, had been involved with a recognised Indian Bookmaker called Dikshit and was even paid by him for spot fixing. “Asif used to call up this Indian bookmaker and other bookies as well on the phone of his servant. I have evidence of the messages he exchanged with the bookies,” said an adamant Veena who's evidently bitter and waved around a list of texts Asif and the so-called Dikshit have allegedly exchanged.

Malik and Asif's relationship had ended in a rather sullen note with Asif readily foregoing her for a girl whom his parent's had given consent to. This was replied by Veena with a court case demanding Rs 13 million which the actor claimed Asif owed her. The latter denied the charges vehemently and the exchange led to open hostility. However it was settled by mediation of a common acquaintance.

Veena explains that she had gathered from her conversations with Asif that Pakistan would not win any tests until 2010 and that spot selection was lucrative for him. Also, it doesn't directly affect the match results.

“I have more evidence of his involvement and I can show that he and some other players also indulged in spot fixing on the Australian tour,” she added.

Veena made the matter even more grave and controversial when she added that Asif had resorted to bribery to escape a suspension which would have lasted longer. She was speaking of course of the positive dope test in the Indian Premier League just 2 years back.

Let us see how Asif counteracts these allegations which seem to carry a lot of weight?

What do you have to suggest, is Asif innocent? Is he being framed by a revengeful ex or is he really guilty?

Colin Montgomerie Gets an Aid at the Ryder Cup

Posted: 29 Aug 2010 11:44 AM PDT

Colin Montgomerie will be having Rhys Davies as his unofficial sidekick at the Ryder Cup in October. Davies was hopeful of making it to the team this time.
“I think it was important the Welsh had some representation out on that course during the week,” said Montgomerie.

“He will be my personal buggy driver. Rhys is a Ryder Cup player of the future – the very near future. He is the guy with the $1m putting stroke.”

The 25 yr old golfer had unfortunately been left out on the European wildcard. Since the Hassan II Championship there has been a noticeable slip in his game. That might explain his obvious exemption from the European wildcard. Davies may not get to start his full season as expected after all.

European captain Colin Montgomerie has asked Padraig Harrington, Luke Donald and Edoardo Molinari to assist Peter Hanson, Miguel Angel Jimenez, Lee Westwood, Ian Poulter, Ross Fisher, Martin Kaymer, Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell and Francesco Molinari. Sergio Garcia has been allotted the post of 4th vice-captain by him.

The Ryder Cup in Newport’s Celtic Manor will be played from October 1st to 3rd.

Ufc 118 results: Results Shock Everyone: Randy Couture Made James Toney Look Like A Foolish Cartoon Lying on The Floor In THE Fight.

UFC 118

UFC 118

UFC 118 results are out now. All the results of UFC 118 today were completely shocking and beyond the imaginationation of everyone including UFC fans also. All the UFC 118 results gave a shock to everyone today.

Firs of all the UFC 118 result that gave shock to everyone is regarding Marcus David. At UFC 118 fight Marcus Davis lost and he was looking like a kid who has been beaten atrociously by someone.

After Marcus Davis Kenny Florian who is normally deemed a big beast also got pummeled in his fight. He too tasted a thrashing defeat against Gray Maynard.

This is nothing so far. Today during UCFC 118 fight that took place between Legendry BJ Penn Vs Frankie Edgar also shocked everyone. Frankie Edgar made BJ Penn look like a small child who is learning the art of walking at his own. He too lost his fight to Frankie Edgar.

But besides all these surprises there was at least one fight in which there was nothing surprising. This fight took place between Randy Couture and James Toney.

Before the fight Toney talked too much trash. But he could not do anything except trash talk in the fight also. I think James Toney needs to understand that a fight is won by fighting not by talking trash or by beating about the bush.

When the fight started everything that James Toney said before the fight turned out to be wrong. Right from the word in fight James Toney was taken down seriously. Toney was given furious punches. Somehow James Toney managed to escape.

Moreover his counterpart was relying on all the dimensions of the game instead of one dimension like Toney. Due to lack of gumption James Toney made everyone feel that he is good for nothing in UFC 118 Fights.

Despite this he deserves some credit for joining MMA. I think he decided to join MMA for proving that boxing is better than MMA and boxers can also be considered as fighters.

But I think someone should make him understand that "My dear James Toney boxers are for boxing and they box only. Moreover, Boxers do not consider themselves fighters because they show their boxing skills inside the ring in big fights instead of showing them on the road like you."

All in all James Toney looked like a foolish cartoon lying on the floor of the ring during the UFC 118 fight. Moreover, I am damn sure about one thing at least now that he must have learnt a lesson that if you are playing a game at such a high-level so you must perfect all the dimensions of the game. I am sure that next time he will definitely learn all the arts related to the game that he ignored this time.

So in the end I congratulate all the winners of the UFC 118 fights today on the behalf of all the DLN staff. All the Fans can watch UFC 118 fight videos by clicking on the link given below.

Briscoe On IndyCar Pole At Chicago

Posted: 29 Aug 2010 06:37 AM PDT

Edward Lewis – AHN Sports Reporter

Joliet, IL, United States (AHN) – Ryan Briscoe scored his third consecutive pole at Chicagoland Speedway Friday for Saturday’s Peak Antifreeze & Motor Oil Indy 300.

Briscoe, who tallied his third pole of the season, tallied a two-lap average of 216.346 mph and Dario Franchitti will start on the outside of the front row.

“The car today was just spot on. I didn’t want to be overconfident but I was thinking after that run, man, that’s gotta be hard to beat. I knew we were fully trimmed out and the car felt really solid. It was a great qualifying run today and I’m just really hoping that we can follow through tomorrow and have another good race,” said Briscoe.

“We’ve been strong here the last couple of years and I really enjoy racing around here. It’s always exciting. It’s a completely wide track that’s really smooth. It’s got smooth transitions off the banking corners. It really promotes good racing so I always get excited to come back here.”

Will Power, who has a 59-point cushion over Franchitti, averaged 215.521 mph and will toll off alongside Team Penske teammate Helio Castroneves (215.475) on Row 2.

Marco Andretti will start fifth, while Danica Patrick (12th) was the highest qualifier of the record-tying five females in the 29-car field.

“I think we hit the set up on the Venom car about as good as we were going to for qualifying today. We can’t expect much more than that as far as our speed, but I’m optimistic for the race,” said Andretti. “It’s always different when you’re on the racetrack with 28 other cars but I think it can be done from fifth. Hopefully we can back that up tomorrow night.”

The Florida driver tallied his second consecutive win Friday night and the third of his career when he captured the Ansell Protective Gloves 150 at Chicagoland Speedway.

“I can’t thank everyone enough. We’re on fire right now and we don’t plan to let the flame die anytime soon.”

The 24-year-old Sheltra led 85 of 100 laps at Chicagoland less than a week after scoring a win at Illinois State Fairgrounds

Kyle Busch Holds Off Bodine For Chicago Truck Win

Posted: 29 Aug 2010 06:37 AM PDT

Edward Lewis – AHN Sports Reporter

Joliet, IL, United States (AHN) – Kyle Busch simply just wins races.

A week after pulling off the unprecedented trifecta at Bristol, Busch held off points leader Todd Bodine in a final green-white-checker finish to win Friday night’s NASCAR Camping World Truck Series at Chicagoland Speedway.

Busch, racing on an off-week for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, passed Bodine with under 20 laps to go and then had to fend off Bodine via the green-white-checker finish, which was brought out when Timothy Peters lost an engine.

“The guys did a nice job on pit road,” said Busch. “The Toyota Tundra was awesome. It was challenging with Todd. It’s always fun to race these trucks.”

Bodine added to his points lead (236) on Aric Almirola, but settled for runner-up honors and was followed across the finish line by Ron Hornaday Jr., Johnny Sauter and Justin Lofton.

Busch edged Bodine in a 1-2 finish for the ninth time in his career and also logged his career 20th win in the series, tying Bodine for fourth all-time in series wins. The only place Bodine has beaten Busch in a 1-2 finish is as Daytona.

“Second stinks,” said Bodine. “We had a great Toyota Tundra. It was a good night. I built the points lead back up to where it was before Bristol.”

It was Busch’s 79th career win in NASCAR’s three top touring series.

The top-10 finishers were rounded out by Matt Crafton, Austin Dillon, Mike Skinner, David Starr and Justin Lofton.

Columbia, MO, United States (AHN) – Missouri Tigers football coach Gary Pinkel suspended leading rusher Derrick Washington Friday after the senior running back was accused of sexual assault.

A Missouri woman alleges Washington entered her room and sexually assulted her, according to court documents obtained by the Columbia Missourian

“I was sexually assaulted by him. … I am pressing criminal charges,” the court documents read. “I fear physical retaliation.”

Stephanie Sims – AHN Entertainment Reporter

New York, NY, United States (AHN) – Fashion Week is coming up fast, but until September 9, the U.S. Open is the big event in New York City. And some of fashion’s biggest names are getting involved.

Various celebrities, including supermodel Bar Refaeli, were at Nike’s Primetime Knockout tennis event to celebrate the season’s final Grand Slam tournament by pairing the athletes with local youth during an exhibition match in New York.

Refaeli took some time to participate in the event before gearing up for New York fashion week, set to start on September 9.

In preparation for the event, Bar honed her game back in Israel with her trainer. She reportedly wasn’t as good as Maria Sharapova, but it seems that no one really noticed her tennis technique; people more noticed her tennis skirt.

Lewis Hamilton fifth qualifying place leaves him frantic

Posted: 28 Aug 2010 02:07 PM PDT

Lewis Hamilton Lewis Hamilton was seen struggling in the final moments at the Spa-Francorchamps, Belgium along with other drivers as it drizzled in making progress to rectify their mistakes. The final qualifying session saw him attaining the fifth position and the 2008 world champion is now praying for a better start.

“Unfortunately it started to rain – which we hadn’t expected – and that cost me 0.3sec in the first sector. It was time I managed to make up in the second and third sectors, but we’re fifth” said the McLaren driver's pal Briton Jenson Button who was obviously not happy with the fifth position they managed.

"I got out for my first lap, the first one out. Turn 14 was drying up but I was first one to get there and didn’t know how much to push. It was a bit of a disappointing first lap, I wasn’t able to hold the time out of the tyres. Then I got the opportunity on the second lap which was good lap apart from Turn 1. That was wet and a little bit damp, I lost time there. But the rest of the track was dry and I was able to utilize the tyres and pull out the time" was his description of the race.

He thinks he was a tenth behind Mark, with some respite to be in front in P1, but to be P2 in front row is a good enough place said Hamilton much alarmed by the turn of events at the very last moment though he was happy to make it to the front row.

His car’s straight line speed may be beneficial for him according to some in passing Webber in the opening lap but he tends to be guarded as it may cost him some precious points.

Lewis Hamilton the defending world champion was quoted as saying that his best efforts were marred by the sudden rains and would come back with a vengeance and prepared for everything in the next session on Sunday when he'll start beside Mark Webber of Red Bull.

FIBA World Championship: Lithuania Thumps New Zealand By 92-79

Posted: 28 Aug 2010 12:53 PM PDT

Share

FIBA World Championship is going on and New Zealand has been forced to face another defeat in the tournament. It is a second successive defeat of New Zealand in the tournament. Now New Zealand has lost a game against Lithuania in a nail biter. New Zealand lost to Lithuania by 92-79.

Throughout the game New Zealand team in this FIBA World Championship game against Lithuania looked out of sorts. The result also testifies about it loudly. Moreover, Lithuanian team did not take long time in making the most of the blunder committed by the scattered and shattered New Zealand team.

In this game for New Zealand shooting guard Kirk Penney scored 37 points. But by the time New Zealand tried to come back into the match Lithuanian team had got significant lead. Although New Zealand made some efforts in order to comeback into the game with lot of zest and zeal. But all these efforts came too late. Moreover, Himalayan blunder committed by the team at the initial stage of the match has also cost them a game. So these late efforts could not threaten Lithuanian team.
In the victory of Lithuania Linas Kleiza made 27 points and took 8 rebounds also. He played vital role in the win of Lithuania against New Zealand.

This is just nothing. During the match New Zealand team allowed Lithuania to score easy baskets after baskets as if they have come to New Zealand so being a host as if it is their duty not to let their guest feel and difficulty. I am not saying that New Zealand is hosting this FIBA World Championship.

If New Zealand team keeps on allowing other teams to score easy baskets after baskets so the day is not far away when this KIWI team will be kicked hard out of the competition. If kiwi team is aspirant of going ahead in the tournament so New Zealand needs to work hard and execute the plan properly as well as perfectly.
After loosing the game New Zealand Captain also admitted that we were extremely poor in the court all the time. Moreover we allowed Lithuania to score 92 points. He also said that if you allow some team to score 92 points so you are never going to win any game.

So according to me it is a lesson as well as high time for New Zealand players to learn a lesson quickly from their mistakes before it is too late. If New Zealand wants to do better in this FIBA World Championship so lot of improvement is required for the games to come in the next couple of days.

Lefty Out At Barclays: Mickelson To Miss Cut After Carding 74

Posted: 28 Aug 2010 07:14 AM PDT

Tom Edrington – AHN Sports Reporter

Paramus, NJ, United States (AHN) – For Phil Mickelson, the world’s No. 2 ranked player, it had to be the ultimate embarassment.

Barclays is one of Mickelson’s major sponsors. The name there on his golf shirts. There will be no Lefty at Ridgewood Country Club this weekend.

Mickelson finished bogey, double-bogey on the eighth and ninth holes Friday and floundered in with a three-over par 74 combined with a Thursday effort of 73.

His 146 total left him well behind the projected 1-over par 36 hole cutline of 143 at the Barclays Championship.

This was yet another opportunity for Mickelson to overtake Tiger Woods for the No. 1 ranking in the world standings.

But Mickelson was once again erratic with every aspect of his game Friday. He manged only one birdie all day Thursday and wasn’t much better 24 hours later.

Mickelson is ranked high enough in the FedEx standings to earn a spot in next week’s Deutsche Bank event at the TPC of Boston.

Cards Slugger Becomes Third Youngest Player To Reach 400 Homers

Posted: 28 Aug 2010 05:31 AM PDT

AHN Sports Staff

St.Louis, MO, United States (AHN) – St. Louis Cardinals Albert Pujols added another achievement to his amazing career Thursday, becoming the third quickest player to reach 400 career home runs.

Pujols blasted a fastball from Washington Nationals hurler Jordan Zimmermann high over the right centerfield wall for his 400th career homer.

At 30 years and 221 days old, Pujols became the third quickest player to reach the 400 homer-mark, just behind former Seattle Mariners outfielder Ken Griffey Jr (30 years, 141 days old) and NY Yankees infielder Alex Rodriguez (29 years, 316 days).

After accomplishing a great milestone, Pujols also ripped his 30th double of the year to extend his streak of 30+ doubles in a season to 10.

Selected in the 13th round of the 1999 MLB Draft, only few believed Pujols could attain such enormous success in his career.

Pujols made his major league debut in the 2001 season, where he instantly displayed great potential by capturing NL Rookie of the Year honors.

For 10 seasons with the Cards, the Dominican Republic-born player showcased great all-around skills, earning 3 NL MVPs, 9 All-Star appearances, 5 Silver Slugger nods and a Gold Glove award in 2006.

Pujols is in position to take his third consecutive MVP award this season, hitting .321 with 34 homers, 93 RBI, 90 runs and 12 SB in 124 games.

Pujols and the Cardinals (68-56) are attempting to overcome a 3.5 game deficit to the NL Central leading Cincinnati Reds (73-54).

U.S. Amateur Championship: Golf`s Version Of “Survivor”

Posted: 28 Aug 2010 05:31 AM PDT

Tom Edrington – AHN Sports Reporter

University Place, WA, United States (AHN) – The U.S. Amateur Championship is one of golf’s most prized possessions. It is the title of Bobby Jones, Arnold Palmer, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.

It is a crown jewel on any golfer’s resume.

Thousands started in quest of the 110th championship and now it is down to only eight competitors in the quarterfinal matches staged by the USGA at Chambers Bay, the site of the 2015 U.S. Open.

There were 312 players who showed up this past Monday, hoping that they’d play well enough over 36-holes to make it to the 64 match play spots.

Jeff Wilson, a 47-year-old car dealer stole the first day headlines with a 62 and ended up the qualifying medalist. But the amateur is cruel. Match play is a brute.

Wilson lost his first match — one and done.

Kevin Tway, a pre-tournament favorite and son of professional Bob Tway, suffered the same fate.

This is golf’s version of Survivor. Eliminations come quickly. On Wednesday, the 64 competitors became 32.

On Thursday, half were eliminated. Such is life in competition for the U.S. Amateur championship.

Friday’s matches feature 2009 champion Byeong-Hun “Ben” An, who won as a 17-year-old and is now 18 and headed for Cal-Berkley. Fact is, he’s missing classes this week.

An faces Mike Homa, who also goes to Cal, and will is a sophomore. Two teammates clash, one goes home.

Two Oklahoma State players face off in the Peter Uihlein vs. Morgan Hoffman match.

Scott Langley, the reigning NCAA champ, a senior at Illinois plays Stanford junior David Chung. Pat Cantlay, a freshman at UCLA takes on Jed Dirkson, a junior at Iowa.

As it sometimes does, the amateur takes on the appearance of a college tournament. All the remaining contestants are accomplished, credentialed amateur stars.

The eight winners Friday will then have to win twice Saturday to make it to the 36-hole Sunday finale.

Although only one can claim the title, both will receive invitations to the 2011 Masters at Augusta National. That was Bobby Jones’ longtime edict. Jones, a life-time amateur, won this title five times.

It truly is survival of the best, survival of those who have their games fines tuned. The Chambers Bay course sits on the shores of Puget Sound and it is a true links course.

Unlike Whistling Straits, it has the brown dormant fescue grasses, firm fairways and wildly undulating greens.

It looks straight out of Scotland but is just west of Tacoma.

Come Sunday, it will provide the 110th winner, the ultimate survivor.

Colts Battered, Bruised As Regular Season Approaches

Posted: 28 Aug 2010 05:31 AM PDT

Kareem Shaker – AHN Sports Reporter

Green Bay, WI, United States (AHN) – The Indianapolis Colts suffered not only their worst preseason loss 59-24 to the prolific Green Bay Packers, but also lost a number of star players.

“We’ve got a couple of weeks to clean some things up,” Peyton Manning told the Indianapolis Star.

Indy allowed the most points in its preseason history and Green Bay hung the most points on the board in preseason since a 75-0 blowout of the Cedar Rapids (Iowa) Crush in 1938.

Besides their struggles on the field, the Colts will have to deal with the loss of middle linebacker Gary Brackett (right hand), running back Joseph Addai (concussion), offensive tackle Tony Ugoh (toe), defensive tackle Antonio Johnson (groin) and cornerback Jacob Lacey (concussion).

“There’s an old adage that you’re never as bad as you think you are when you lose, never as good as you think you are when you win,” coach Jim Caldwell told the Indy Star. “There were some positive things in there, but we were not as sharp as we’d like to be.

“We were out of sync and (had) too many penalties (12 for 116 yards). We certainly did not play the way we’re capable of playing.”

Indianapolis plays one more preseason game at home against the Bengals Sept .2 before opening its season at the Houston Texans Sept. 12.
