Lance Stephenson charged over violence Posted: 16 Aug 2010 01:53 PM PDT
Lane Stephenson gets arrested for having supposedly pushed his son's mother down the staircase made of hard concrete of her home in Brooklyn. The 21 year old lady, Jasmine Williams charges the 19 year old on being recklessly violent causing head and neck injuries, as reported in the hospital early Monday morning. Stephenson might have to face over 12 years of imprisonment with having convicted on all counts. If he is convicted on one count of felony assault, a minimum of 7 years is for sure. And this has not been the only case of the man with the police. His last year's investigative accident involving a 17 year old female had him pleading over on his guilty. Larry Bird, the Pacers former President reports, “We are currently in the process of gathering information and will have further comments as we learn more facts.” It seems his past activites haven't really had much of an effect over his career. Before the Pacers, Stephenson had been playing over a year at the University of Cincinnati and he was named there Big East’s Rookie of the Year for 2010. |
India vs Sri Lanka: India Wins By 6 Wickets : Stormy Sehwag Blows off Sri Lanka Single Handedly Posted: 16 Aug 2010 01:46 PM PDT
Both India Vs Sri Lanka met each other at Dambulla today. In the starting of the match coin fell in the favor of Sri Lankan skipper Kumar Sangakkara. After winning the coin toss Sri Lankan captain Kumar Sangakkara gave the master key of the match in the hands of the Indian team by committing a foolhardy of batting first on this very damp and grassy pitch with sky overcast with very dark clouds,. His decision turned out to be a tonic that Indian team really needed for getting a new life or in other words we can say that he gave Indian team a cylinder of oxygen to survive and come out of deep water by batting first. After being given a gift in free Indian bowlers went all guns blazing at Sri Lankan team right from the word go. Today at the start of the match Indian team punished the Sri Lankan team for the mistake committed by their skipper Sangakkara and got on their nerves as pacer Praveen Kumar removed Sri Lankan opener Upul Tharanga on 0 on the very first ball of the match with a red hot and fantastic Yorker bang on target. After making her intentions clear Indian team did not relax here. After the removal of Uupul Tharanga Sri Lanka had not recovered yet at all when Indian quickies Ashish Nehra and Praveen Kumar put completely Sri Lanka on the back foot by giving two more huge jolts in the shape of skipper Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jaywardene .Sangakkara made only 2 runs and Jaywardene also followed the footprints of his skipper and did not trouble the scorers much. Mahela Jaywardene made only 4 runs. This was not enough for healing the wounds of injured lion on the hunt. After removing breaking these two legs of Sri Lankan team Ishant Sharma broke the spine of the Sri Lankan team by removing the Thillan Samraveera just on 7 runs. So far Sri Lankan team was looking for a shelter to hide somewhere at the score of 44/4. But the biggest jolt came for Sri Lankan team when Tilakratne Dilshan also got out on 45. When he got out the score was 82/5. With the fall of Dilshan's wicket last all the hopes of recovery for Sri Lanka dashed to the ground. Today wickets kept on tumbling from both the ends. Bowlers had a chance to do dance on a chance on this surface. That is what Indian bowlers did in the match today right from the word go. Indian bowlers today made entire Sri Lankan team dance to their tunes. They troubled and got rid of the entire Sri Lankan batsman at will in the match. By the score of 103 entire top and middle order had been sent back to the pavilion to pick up their phone calls that they had put on hold. But thanks to timely 43 by all rounder Suraj Randiv down the order that saved the skin of Sri Lankan team. Randiv's knock and defiance by the tail provided some respectability to the total of Sri Lankan team and took it to 170. For India Praveen Kumar, Ishant Sharma and Ravinder Jadeja bagged 2 wickets each whereas Ashish Nehra got only 1 wicket. But spinner Pragyan Ojha bagged 3 wickets in his 9.1 overs at the cost of 36 runs only. Now Sri Lankan bowlers had something to bowl at Indians. After making 170 runs on the board Sri Lanka also gave some jitters to the Indian team at the top by removing opener Dinesh Kartik on 10. But this was not enough for hungry Sri Lankan tigers as they scalped two more wickets of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli scored a big round 0 each. But Delhi Daredevil Virender Sehwag kept quite and held one end. But now he got the company of Suresh Riana who also fell shortly after making 21 runs. So far Indian team was tottering at 91/4. On end wickets were kept on tumbling so far and on the hand Nazafgarh Nawaab got back in his real color and scored his half century. Although Virender Sehwag remained quite today but he remained quite purpose fully. By the time Sri Lanka tried to fight Virender Sehwag ate the hopes of Sri Lanka of wining this match like a termite Virender sehwag took the team India home safely in the company of skipper Mahender Singh Dhoni in 34.3 overs with 15.3 overs to spare. In this way Indian team won this match by 6 wickets. For India Dictator Virender Sehwag once again dictated terms but in the opposite style and remained unbeaten on 99 runs in 100 balls. In his innings he hit 11 swashbuckling boundaries and two giant size sixes while skipper Dhoni remained unbeaten on 18 runs in 38 balls. For Sri Lanka Angelo Mathews and Dilhara Fernando scalped 2 wickets each. For his memorable innings of 99* at Dambulla Nazafgarh Nawaab bagged the award of man of the match. Now this win against Sri Lanka has not only restored the lost confidence of Indian players after a humiliating defeat of 200 runs against New Zealand but it also has won India a bonus point. So with this win in today's ind Vs Sri Lanka do or die encounter Indian team has kept its hopes of making to the final of the tournament alive strongly. |
Dustin Johnson caught in bunker dispute Posted: 16 Aug 2010 10:49 AM PDT
The most callous decisions taken by the Golf authorities of late have found Dustin Johnson on the receiving end when it cost him the chance to play more in the 92nd PGA Championship. He was fined for the two strokes he played at a very decisive point in the game when he had his hopes high to compete with Bubba Watson and Martin Kaymer in the title match. He was accused of grounding his clubs in one of the bunkers though it was difficult to make out that it actually was a bunker. The match was ultimately won by Kaymer and Bubba Watson lost but still had reason to be hopeful with a qualification in the Ryder Cup. The arguments in Johnson's favor suggested that the actual bunker were hard to spot with spectators sitting on them and children making sand castles. With golf experts blasting off the arbitration when some bunkers resembled waste areas, some even probe the reason to treat these waste areas as bunkers. However a few were of the thought that Johnson must have been watchful as all the players were in the know of the valid bunkers throughout the course. The unfortunate ruling tied him at the 5th spot since the two strokes had altered his final score by a wide margin and Dustin Johnson hurriedly left the ground disappointed. |
Michigan Football Defends Allegations To NCAA Infractions Committee Posted: 16 Aug 2010 07:42 AM PDT Kareem Shaker – AHN Sports Reporter Seattle, WA, United States (AHN) – rThe University of Michigan presented its case concerning five potential NCAA violations Saturday to the NCAA committee of infractions. Michigan athletic director Dave Brandon led the presentation, which lasted about seven and a half hours. “We had a fair and thorough hearing, and we feel good about the fact that we were given that opportunity,” Brandon told AnnArbor.com. “And the process will continue. And under the rules, based on the process as it has been laid out, we’re going to be very quiet.” The Wolverines have reportedly taken responsibility for four of the five alleged violations. The NCAA usually takes between a month and three months to render a decision. Michigan football coach Rich Rodriguez did not offer much comment, but did say: “Certainly glad that this part of the process is over.” Ther five violations the NCAA alleges are: • Quality-control staff members regularly monitored voluntary off-season workouts and regularly assisted with on- and off-field coaching duties. • Players were required to participate in more than the maximum allowed practice hours. • Graduate assistant coach Alex Herron provided “false and misleading information” to NCAA enforcement staff. • The athletic department “failed to adequately monitor its football program to assure” NCAA compliance. • Rodriguez “failed to promote an atmosphere of compliance within the football program and failed to adequately monitor the duties and activities” of his quality-control staff. Michigan only disputes the final charge, Rodriguez’s failure to promote an atmosphere of compliance. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Cowboys` Dez Bryant Rehabs Ankle Injury; Eyes Aug. 28 Return Posted: 16 Aug 2010 07:42 AM PDT AHN Sports Staff Dallas, TX, United States (AHN) – Dallas Cowboys rookie wide receiver Dez Bryant was pushing for an early return from an ankle injury, tentatively on August 28 for a preseason game against the Houston Texans. Bryant , 21, was itching to get back on the field almost two weeks after he sustained a right ankle sprain during a team practice at Cowboys training in Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Bryant reportedly started doing cardio workouts and participated in several light rehabilitation drills with fellow injured Cowboys players. The rookie wide receiver also caught a few passes with fellow wide receiver Miles Austin, catching one throw midair without feeling pain after his two feet landed on the ground. “No pain at all. I’m fine,” Bryant told ESPN Saturday about the current condition of his ankle. “At the same time, I still know I can’t cut the way I want to. That’s why they want to get me back 100 percent. Bryant, who is expected to compete with Roy Williams for the no.2 wide receiver, will not force himself if it would result in more severe injuries. Still, the Cowboys coaching staff reportedly believes Bryant could return just in time for the last preseason game of the season. Bryant said he could play for the Cowboys pre-season game against the Texans on Aug 28, but nothing yet is certain. Cowboys owner Jerry Jones previously said he has high expectations for Bryant despite being in just his rookie season. The Cowboys traded three draft picks to nab Bryant with the 24th pick of last April’s draft. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
No Joshing: Rangers` Hamilton Boasts Superb Bat, Terrific Glove Posted: 16 Aug 2010 07:42 AM PDT John Tranchina – AHN Sports Correspondent Arlington, TX, United States (AHN) – Josh Hamilton continues to come through in the clutch. The Texas Rangers outfielder keeps having a positive impact on the outcome of games, both with his bat and with his glove. His impressive offense was on full display in the Rangers’ big 11-inning 10-9 victory over the Boston Red Sox Friday night, as he reached base in five out of six plate appearances, collecting four hits, including his 25th home run of the season, and scoring four times, including the game-tying run in the eighth. After the Rangers fell behind 8-2 in the fourth, Hamilton’s fifth-inning home run pulled Texas within 8-6. When Boston went up 9-6, Hamilton led off the seventh with a single and scored from third on David Murphy’s sacrifice fly to make it 9-7. With Texas trailing 9-8 in the eighth, Hamilton came up with two outs and nobody on base and drilled a double into right field. Utilizing his superior speed, he then scored from second when Vladimir Guerrero dove into first base to beat out an infield single, tying the contest at 9-9 and sending it into extra innings. “Obviously, we’re not going to give up,” Hamilton said of the club’s mindset when they were down by six. “(Manager Ron Washington) kept saying to us, ‘Pick and peck, get a little here, get a little there, it all doesn’t have to be at one time.’ It worked. We just have that winning attitude now, it doesn’t matter if we’re down or not.” After his big night, Hamilton currently leads the AL in batting (.362), hits (158), total bases (286), and ranks top-five in the league in doubles (37), runs scored (79) and extra-base hits (65). He now has 22 games of three hits or more this season, which is one shy of the franchise record – and there’s still over 40 games to play. “He’s playing like a 12-year-old boy,” said teammate Michael Young, who also homered in the game, immediately before Hamilton did in the fifth inning. “He had the total package on display tonight. That was fun to watch. He’s obviously playing at an extremely high level.” But as much as his offensive abilities influenced the game, Hamilton has also contributed in the field as well, making two outstanding running catches in the game. After tracking down a long fly ball from Marco Scutaro in the third inning to save an extra-base hit, Hamilton came up with a spectacular leaping catch at the center field wall in the sixth to rob Jed Lowrie of a home run. In a game that was 8-6 at the time and ended up going into extra innings, that one play, which ended with Hamilton flat on his back but with the ball in his glove, could have been the difference. “It wasn’t bad, I’ve had worse,” Hamilton laughed regarding the rough landing. “I’m not surprised, he’s one of the best outfielders in the league, but for some reason, he doesn’t get credit for it,” Young said. “Whenever people talk about the best outfielders in the American League, a couple of names always come up, but Josh’s is never there, I don’t know why. He’s a very gifted outfielder, one of the best I’ve ever seen.” And he continues to make a case for himself as one of the best players in the game right now – both offensively and defensively. Vikes Display Dominant Defense, Expose Rams` Bradford In Debut Posted: 16 Aug 2010 05:47 AM PDT Kareem Shaker – AHN Sports Reporter St. Louis, MO, United States (AHN) – The Minnesota Vikings didn’t need Brett Favre Saturday with their defense putting on a clinic for Rams rookie quarterback Sam Bradford in a 28-7 preseason crushing of St. Louis. Questions about Bradford’s ability to take a hit were clearly answered last night, as the Vikes defense manhadled the Rams o-line for four sacks and at least three other hits on the QB. Bradford finished the game 6-for-13 for 57 yards and a passer rating of 58.8, converting first downs in his first two third-down attempts to the delight of a supportive crowd. The Oklahoma native missed his final year at OU with a shoulder injury after winning the Heisman in 2008. Bradford is expected to edge veteran backup A.J. Feely for the starting job when the Rams open their season Sep 12 at home against the Arizona Cardinals. St. Louis finished last season a dismal 1-15 in head coach Steve Spagnuolo’s first year at the helm. The Rams haven’t made the playoffs since 2004, when they were eliminated in the second round. NFL, Players Association Discuss New Collective Bargaining Agreement Posted: 16 Aug 2010 05:27 AM PDT AHN Sports Staff NY, NY, United States (AHN) – Labor talks between the NFL and the players association resumed Friday, with both parties presenting the initial talks for the creation of a new collective bargaining agreement. Multiple sources reported the labor union and league executives are currently negotiating towards the formation of a new CBA before the current deal expires on March 2011. Last June, the parties talked about extending the regular-season to 18 games. The league plans to reduce pre-season games from four to two, while adding two to the original 16-game regular-season schedule. New York Giants owner John Mara earlier assured a deal was imminent, though he believes the talks are just starting to heat up. Nevertheless, the Giants owner thinks both parties will eventually close out a deal, preventing a repeat of the infamous lockout in 1987. “The owners are all convinced a deal will get done and we have the opportunity to get a deal that works for everybody. Nobody is looking forward to a work stoppage. Nobody wants that.” Mara told Nola.com Friday. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |

Stewart, 23, performed several non-contact individual drills but insisted he’ll take the recovery process one day at a time. Stewart then underwent an Achilles tendon surgery in January to repair the damage in the connecting ligament that attachés Achilles to the heel Stewart said he’s just happy to be at camp and perform a few drills to test his foot, as he takes “baby steps” towards a full recovery.
