Report: Colorado May Not Move To Pac-10 Until 2012-13 Posted: 26 Aug 2010 05:52 AM PDT AHN Sports Staff Boulder, CO, United States (AHN) – Conference realignment in the Pac-10 may have to wait two more years after Colorado decided to stay in the Big 12 until the 2012-2013 season, multiple sources reported Wednesday. The Boulder Daily Camera reported Wednesday Colorado will not jump to the Pac-10 until the 2012-2013 season to prevent being fined by its current conference. Big 12 bylaws require any departing member with two-year notice to forfeit 50 percent of its share from media coverage and ticket sales revenue. Reports indicated Colorado is not willing to sacrifice $9- $14.5 million over the next two years, prompting the school to consider the two-year notice. Nebraska could lose 80 percent of the conference revenue share by leaving the Big 10 after this season. Nebraska officials nevertheless asserted they did not owe Big 12 for moving to another conference. Big 12 officials reportedly hoped Colorado and Nebraska would leave together next season, allowing the conference to fulfill its promise of an increased profit share for the remaining members. However, with Colorado staying for a couple of seasons, the Big 12 would only gain half of Colorado’s profit share and still divide the total revenue by 11 teams instead of 10. The Tigers confirmed Tuesday Ordonez will proceed to a season-ending surgery after sustaining a fractured right ankle in a game against the Toronto Blue Jays in late July. Los Angeles-based surgeon Dr. Phillip Kwong, who will perform the surgery Wednesday, expects Ordonez to attain full recovery for next season. The injury served as a major blow for Ordonez, who came short of securing his $15 million option for next season after he failed to reach the agreed number of games and at-bats. With Ordonez becoming a free agent next season, the Tigers remained silent on the possibility of reacquiring the all-star outfielder. Tigers general manager Dave Dombrowsk wished Ordonez well for the surgery, thanking him for his effort since he joined the baseball club in 2005. Ordonez, 36, hit .303 with 12 homers, 29 RBI, and 56 runs in 84 games this season. He also batted .318 with 102 regular-season home runs over six seasons with the Tigers. The Tigers (63-63) will miss Ordonez’s slugging and fielding contribution, as they try to secure an American League wildcard spot. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
