Eng vs Pak Live Test: A Last Chance of Survival For Pakistan In The Seires Posted: 25 Aug 2010 11:21 PM PDT
Eng Vs Pak 4th Npower test is likely to begin shortly between England and Pakistan. Whereas England will try to seal the series by winning this test match and at the same time Pakistan will try to level the series by registering a win here. So far England is leading the series by 2-1. Although Pakistan has won the previous test against England and raised some hopes of competitive cricket in the series yet it seems unlikely that Pakistan will be able to level the series by 2-2. I am not a doubting Thomas but I am saying all this because if we look at the current series of England and Pakistan so we come to know that Pakistan has remained on the back foot for most of the part of the series. Moreover, the victory that Pakistan got in the 3rd test was not as convincing as it should have been due to very small target to chase for a win.`8hould have been. Pakistan had only the target of 149 runs to win but the got there after facing so many problems. In the hunt of this easy win Pakistan struggled a lot and cracked a hard nut and lost six batsmen. So this always raises doubt about the Pakistan team and makes them an inconsistent or mercurial team in the world. Moreover if someone like Steven Finn of England says that the return of Mohammed Yusuf does not make any difference in the Pakistan team. The reason behind it is that he too became victim of panic created by us in the Pakistan team during the 3rd NPower test match. Everybody believed that all the Pakistani players will bat around him because he will provide strength to Pakistan middle order but this did not happen. It seemed rather he is playing around all the players. His performance in the 3rd NPower test match was not so convincing and threatening for us. Steven Finn also believes that if someone should be given credit so he is Youngster Azhar Ali only because he saved Pakistan from humiliating defeat in both the innings in the 3rd NPower test match. But this series has raised some question marks over the promises of England also. Before the 3rd NPower test match England was boasting about a thumping whitewash before the Ashes that has not been allowed by Pakistan. But this does not mean the we can deny the potential of English team that can win them Ashes back. England is a kind of team that just need one good performance and rest they can do at their own for registering a win in the series. For this purpose they have many players like Strauss, Petersen, Bell, Collingwood, Swann, Hoggard and Finn etc. All of these players are all clear proof of match winning performance. Talking about the 4th NPower test match that is going to take place at Lords so this is a very good chance for England to prove their metal before the litmus test during Ashes against Australia. If struggling Kevin Petersen and Paul Collingwood can somehow find their lost rhythm back so it will be good for England in the context of upcoming Ashes Series against the mighty Aussies. Moreover they are not the only one who are under the fire of burning questions. Players like Alistair cook and entire English bowling attack is also under the fire of questions. The biggest question that is coming in the mind of everyone is that can English bowlers contain runs and get wickets with patience if they wickets are not falling at their will? The second question is that Is it the end of poor form for English opener Alistair Cook because being an opener he has an indispensible role to play against the mighty Aussies if England is aspirant of regaining Ashes back. It seems as it is really the end of his poor form. They way he batted in the previous test it showed some promise and desire to play for England. But yet there are dark clouds of questions in the mind of everyone about the performance of some key players of England as I have already mentioned. Despite all this 4th Npower test match is likely to begin soon and it will answer all the questions lingering in the mind of everybody. But there are still some players against whom both the teams need to prepare specific plans. Players to Watch Out For: In the Pakistan team Salman butt is one player who can hurt England big time as it seems that he is regaining his lost form back. Moreover, although Mohammed Yusuf did not perform well in the 3rd test match against England yet he can not be taken lightly because he is a highly experienced player. So you can not keep experienced layer like him out of the picture and game for a long time otherwise he will also England big time. So far player form English squad to watch out for is concerned so he is none other than the flamboyant and consistent performer with both bat and bowl is Kevin Petersen. Kevin Peitersen has always been a treat to watch all over the world with the kind of bating style he has. Moreover, the way he changes the momentum of the game single handedly at will against every side of the world and that too at the crunch time. So now I think the stage at lords is perfectly set for a performer like him because he has the reputation of performing hypnotically especially when England needs him badly. Who can forget his innings of 158 against mighty Aussies that won struggling England Ashes back. So Pakistan had better pay special attention towards Kevin Peitersen because if he gets his rhythm back so there will be no stopping for this show stopper. Pakistan: So far as Pakistan is concerned so they are in confusion over the selection of final playing squad because quickie Umar Gul has recovered from his injury. But at the same time Wahab Riaz who bowled a memorable spell in the 3rd NPower test against England is also in contention for selection strongly. Moreover, he is being supported by the team management also. Expected Teams: England: 1 A. Strauss (capt), 2 A. Cook, 3 J. Trott, 4 K. Pietersen, 5 P. Collingwood, 6 E. Morgan, 7 M. Prior (wk), 8 G. Swann, 9 S. Broad, 10 J. Anderson, 11 S. Finn 1 Y. Hameed, 2 I. Farhat, 3 S. Butt (capt), 4 A. Ali, 5 M. Yousuf, 6 U. Akmal, 7 K. Akmal (wk), 8 M. Amir, 9 W. Riaz, 10 S. Ajmal, 11 M. Asif Pitch conditions: It has been a long time since Lords has hosted any test match so there is likely to be uncertainness about the behaviors of the pitch. But pitch at Lords has the reputation of favoring batsmen more then bowler. so matches at Lords have always been high scoring. Lords Pitch is also known for some assistance for the bowlers also but they really have to crack a hard nut in order to make the most of this assistance. Moreover, there is a possibility of heavy rain also during the test match. So guys sit back at home and watch this do or die clash of England vs Pakistan during the 4th NPower test match. |

The last was in 2004 where also they had to face defeat at the hands of a strong Barcelona attack featuring Deco, Giuly, Eto'o, Belletti and Larrson with Giuly and Andres Iniesta being the goal scorer. India Vs New Zealand: Combined Team Effort Takes India Into Final of Tri-Series Posted: 25 Aug 2010 11:09 AM PDT
Today's encounter of India Vs New Zealand once again proved that no team can be predicted as a winner before the end of the match. It is true because all the teams destroyed each other first and then got destroyed against each other on the very next day on the very same pitch. So this encounter was also of same type. Pitch proved to be very helpful for the bowlers. Moreover, bowlers made the most of it. So as I mentioned in my following Article "Ind vs NZ: Both The Teams Are All Set For Do Or Die Encounter Dambulla:: Batting Adds To The Woes of Both The Teams" This can be viewed by clicking at the following link: " http://www.india-cricket-live.com/live-icc-cricket-streaming/2298 " That the team that will win the toss would love to bat first because of the moisture as well as assistance of swing present in the pitch for quickies. It turned out to be true in Dambulla's Rangiri International Cricket Stadium. Indian skipper Mahender Singh Dhoni won the coin toss and elected to bat first. As I mentioned yesterday in my article "if some batsman can apply himself by handling the initial attack of new ball bowlers so there will be plenty of runs for him in the pitch." Turned out to be true. But there was always likely to be assistance for the fast bowlers. When Indian team started batting then Kiwi bowlers came very hard at Indian team and removed opener Dinesh Kartik very early. So it was enough for proving that this pitch is for bowlers if they can bowl with perfect line and length with aggression so it will be a deadly combo to face for the batsman. All the spectators got to see this as Kiwi bowlers removed Virat Kohli also soon. On the one wicket were falling as if there is a season of autumn going on. At the same time Indian opener Sehwag and cannon Virender Sehwag present right at the top fired the cannon balls of his boundaries and sixes and fired hard with extremely furious accuracy. Today this match of India and New Zealand Belongs to Delhi Dasher Virender Sehwag. Virender Sehwag hit all the kiwi bowlers all over the park and that too wherever he wished and whenever he aspired and however he felt like. No New Zealand bowlers had any answer for coming out of wrath of Sehwag. Sehwag Made all the Kiwi Bowlers dance to his tunes at will. Before his commendable innings came to an end he had done his duty and made glorious ton. Furious Sehwag made memorable 110 runs before getting out. There is one point to be noticed that if we remove the innings of Sehwag so no other batsman except skipper Dhoni who made 38 runs could reach even double figures. So we can realize the indispensability of his innings. After so many days it seemed good that Sehwag is in the ground as if he wants to seek the revenge of his nation's insult that was handed by New Zealand in the opener of the Tri-Series. When Sehwag got out score of the team India was 173/5 but after that only captain Dhoni could show some resistant against the kiwi team that was hell-bent on spoiling the India's party at any cost. No other batsman could resist even for 2 overs against deadly accurate Kiwi Bowlers once Sehwag got out. So as a result Indian team got bundled out on 223 runs in 46.3 overs. So now mercurial Kiwis had moderate target of 224 runs to storm into the final against the host Sri Lanka. But as I mentioned yesterday in my article that the pitch is going to prove a graveyard of the batting line up of the team that will chase even moderate target of 220 or 230 runs later in the evening. The major reason was that this pitch always swings mercilessly in the evening through out the evening. So it is never easy to chase the target under the floodlights. As a result when kiwi team started its train towards the destination of 224 runs for win its engine and main boggies got derailed right at the starting of the journey. At the beginning of the New Zealand innings Indian bowlers also needed to ball with deadly accuracy and pace. Indian bowlers understood the importance of this match and bowled with fire and deadly accuracy right from the word go. Due to the deadly accuracy adopted by Indian bowlers New Zealand's innings got off to a poor start. Six top batsmen of In this way Indian team won the match convincingly by 105 runs. But that does not mean we can snatch credit from the bowlers who came with all the answers with the ball. Every bowler was on song. Everybody bowled with accuracy and claimed wickets quickly and regularly at will. All the bowlers had fire in their heart today and they won the day for their side from the bottom of their heart. For Indian team Praveen Kumar Registered the figures of 8-2-34-3 whereas Munaf Patel also scalped 3 wickets at the cost 21 runs in 7 overs and bowled 1 maiden over also. In addition to it Ashish Nehra also scalped 2 wickets in 6 overs. Moreover, Nehra bowled 1 maiden over also. Apart from it Ishant Sharma and Ravinder Jadeja also got 1 wicket each. All the Indian bowlers bowled with a mission in their mind and heart with body and soul. This furious fire of Delhi Dasher Virender Sehwag and all the aggressive Indian bowlers won the battle of pride by winning this do or die match for India. For his furious and dedicated innings Virender Sehwag has been chosen man of the match. Now after winning this do or die encounter of Ind Vs NZ Team India will meet Sri Lanka in the final of the tri-series on 28th August 2010. |
`Hawks Goalie Huet May Play For Swiss Team Posted: 25 Aug 2010 06:57 AM PDT AHN Sports Staff Chicago, IL, United States (AHN) – The Chicago Blackhawks could lose another valuable player this summer with goaltender Cristobal Huet considering playing in Europe next season, the player’s agent confirmed Monday. The salary cap dilemma continues for the defending Stanley Cup Champions, who are on the verge of losing a seasoned netminder in Huet. Huet’s representative, Stephen Bartlett, said his client is seriously considering a stint with Fribourg-Gotteron in the Swiss Nationalliga A starting next season. Letting go Huet would provide the Chicago-based team much needed cap flexibility. Althoughhe insisted everything is not yet final, Bartlett appreciated the Blackhawks giving Huet the privilege to choose the best option for his career. In 48 games last season, Huet posted a 26-14 record with a solid 2.50 goal-against average and .894 save percentage in 2731 minutes. Huet’s breakout performance came in the 2006-2007 season, when he recorded 107 saves, two shutouts, and .916 save percentage. Huet, 34, also played numerous international matches with the French National ice hockey team. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Devils, NHL Discuss Kovalchuk Contract Situation Posted: 25 Aug 2010 06:00 AM PDT AHN Sports Staff Newark, NJ, United States (AHN) – The New Jersey Devils resumed talks with the NHL Monday, trying to convince league officials to approve a new deal for free agent winger Ilya Kovalchuk. Multiple sources reported Monday Devils executives, headed by managing partner Jeff Vanderbeek, attended a meeting with league officials at NHL’s headquarters in New York Monday. Although the outcome of the meeting was not released, Yahoo sports indicated the Devils presented a new deal for the prolific goal scorer and are just waiting for the league’s decision within the day. Considered the most coveted free agent this offseason, Kovalchuk signed a lucrative 17-year, $102 million pact with the Devils on July 19, but the NHL immediately scrapped the record-breaking contract. Kovalchuk and the Devils could have closed out the longest contract in NHL’s history, but league officials insisted the deal circumvented its standard salary cap. On July 26, the NHLPA filed a grievance with the league on July 26, leading to an arbitration battle between the two camps. Nevertheless, arbitrator Richard Bloch supported the league’s decision on August 9. With Kovalchuk returning on the free agency market, the Devils remained persistent in reacquiring the Russian winger. Several reports stated NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is open to provide a possible solution for teams interested in acquiring Kovalchuk. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Despite Uneven Play, Tiger`s Still Talk Of PGA Tour Playoffs Posted: 25 Aug 2010 06:00 AM PDT Tom Edrington – AHN Sports Reporter Paramus, NJ, United States (AHN) – He has a way to stealing the buzz, hogging the spotlight and attention wherever he goes these days. Yes, Tiger Woods is in town for Thursday’s start of the PGA Tour’s version of the postseason playoffs and yes, Woods is at the Barclays because he’s the defending champ. But Tiger also needs to play well if he expects to advance to the finals at the Tour Championship in a month. Pre-tournament talk was oveshadowed by the news of Woods’ divorce from Elin Nordegren becoming final Monday in Bay County Florida Circuit Court in Panama City, a far distance from the former couple’s home in Orlando. At the PGA two weeks ago, the talk was about Woods’ swing-coach-in-waiting, Sean Foley of Orlando. Woods still hasn’t said a word about Foley. Even more intriguing is Woods coming into this first playoff event at the Ridgewood Country Club in the 112th spot, far from his customary position. He has won these playoffs and the Fed Ex Cup two of the three years they have existed. The top five spots are occupied by Ernie Els, Steve Stricker, Jim Furyk, Phil Mickelson and Justin Rose. In previous years, those are players Woods seldom worried about. But upon review of the current state of Tiger’s game, he has a lot to concern himself with this week. If he were to miss the cut, it would mean the end to any potential playoff run by Woods. The field was supposed to start at 125 but already Corey Pavin (110) and Sergio Garcia (101) have chose not to play in this first event as has Paul Goydos (63), who withdrew Monday due to the death of his mother. There are three huge noteable players who won’t participate at all, three winners of majors this season who are not PGA Tour members — Graeme McDowell, the U.S. Open champ, Louis Oosthuizen the Open champion and Martin Kaymer, winner of the PGA two weeks ago. The 125 eligible for this week’s event will be trimmed to 100 for next week’s Deutsche Bank event at TPC Boston then only 70 will make it to Cog Hill outside Chicago. The top 30 then advance to the Tour Championship at East Lake in Atlanta. While Els and the rest sit atop the standings, this time of the season is usually about momentum, which brings a lot of different players into the conversation. Also there’s the scramble to get Pavin’s attention for those four Ryder Cup captain’s picks that will be announced on Sept. 7. There are a lot of dynamics in play but what awaits at the end is the Fed Ex Cup and the $10 million payday that goes with it. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
New York Mets Edge Out Florida Marlins In A Keen Contest Posted: 25 Aug 2010 04:50 AM PDT
New York Mets vs Florida Marlins Luis Castillo swung a keenly contested match between the New-york Mets and the Florida Marlins into the Mets favour by carving out a walk-off single from Florida reliever, Will Ohman . He achieved it in the bottom of the 9th off to edge out the formidable Florida Marlins by a 6-5 victory. This exciting match was contested between the two teams on Tuesday night in Citi Field. The score was interlocked and refused to budge from 5-5 until Davis started off by hitting out an infield single. He beat out towards Dan Uggla who side-armed it to 1st baseman Gabby Sanchez while midair who peculiarly dropped the ball in what could have been a pretty close call. Jeff Francoeur, Josh Thole and pinch hitter Mike Hessman did their bit to warm it up for Luis Castillo. Jerry Manuel was visibly pleased while admitting he was ecstatic for Castillo who managed that hit which won the Mets this game. “He’s been mentoring [Ruben] Tejada a little bit and I think he’s handled [reduced playing time] very well.” Said Mets Manager, Jerry. Well none of Castillo's charm would have been of any use if Pagan hadn't gone 4 for 5 coupled with a pair of doubles and his 4 hit game in a long time since his game against Detroit Tigers on June 22nd. He turned a simple groundball single into a jostle as he dove towards the 2nd base effectively beating Cameron Maybin. "That was a big play. Huge play for us,” Manuel said. “They were playing no-doubles, but that’s someone taking advantage of the ballpark and being familiar with the ballpark as an outfielder.” Carlos Beltran followed up to Pagan's double with a single to have the game tied at 5 each. The game which was billed as the match between pitchers, neither Josh Johnson from Florida nor R.A Dickey of New-York, impressed very much. Castillo enabled victory allowed the Mets to Inch out Florida to claim the 3rd spot in the NL East. They are now trailing the leaders, Braves by a 10 game difference and by another 7.5 from 2nd placed Phillies. Let us wait and watch what happens next. Will their fortunes lead the Mets to the Top spot? Would Castillo cast his magic once more? |
Bears Coach: Linebacker Urlacher To See Preseason Action If `Healthy` Posted: 25 Aug 2010 04:29 AM PDT Jojo Doria – AHN Sports Contributor Lake Forest, IL, United States (AHN) – Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith said Brian Urlacher, who strained his left calf in Saturday night’s tuneup tilt against Oakland, could play the final two exhibition games if the Pro Bowl linebacker is fit and healthy. Smith told the Chicago Tribune.com that the 32-year-old Urlacher, whose calf injury appears not to be serious, could suit up for the Bears, “if he’s healthy and ready to go.” Urlacher, selected to six Pro Bowls in his career, hurt himself during Oakland’s opening 81-yard TD drive Saturday. Urlacher, ruled out for the remainder of the Bears’ game against the Raiders, did not practice Monday as he continued to recover from his latest injury. According to Urlacher, who has not set a timetable for his return, he suffered a similar injury in 2007 but was able to play after two days according to the website report. Hunter Hillenmeyer, who filled in at middle linebacker last season for the Bears, replaced the injured Urlacher Saturday. The veteran linebacker paced the team with seven tackles. Hillenmeyer could be tabbed to take over for Urlacher in Saturday’s game against the Cardinals. Pisa Tinoisamoa could also start at strong-side linebacker in place of Nick Roach, who sat out practice Monday with a knee injury. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
