1992 Dream team still together as Hall of Fame Posted: 14 Aug 2010 07:15 AM PDT
The Naismith Basketball Hall of Famers included wonderful players like Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Earvin "Magic" Johnson, Scottie Pippen, John Stockton, Charles Barkley, David Robinson, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, Clyde Drexler and Chris Mullin. Those players were the miracle of time and none can ever repeat them. On every possible Friday night, those players still stand together as a team. This is another fact that on all the other days they are famous as individuals and not as a team. In 1998, the Basketball team of U.S.A did more good to the team than anything else. The players did far well from what was expected from them. They were known NBA stars and delivered excellence at the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. The players in the rival team would admire them too as they would play against them as a team and they won indeed with more than 43 points. Last year, their Coach, Chuck Daily, passed away. The whole of the team would be present for the ceremonies in the rememberance of their head Coach. |

Jets, Revis` Agent Take Steps In Contract Talks Posted: 13 Aug 2010 07:01 PM PDT Corine Gatti – AHN Sports Contributor Cortland, NY, United States (AHN) – The New York Jets and cornerback Darrelle Revis’ agents took a step toward advancing contract negotiations in hopes of an agreement, the organization said Thursday. “Both parties have had conversations to clear the air and will continue to negotiate with the hopes of reaching an agreement,” according to a team presser. “From this point forward, all discussions regarding these negotiations will remain confidential.” Coach Rex Ryan reportedly suggested that they [Jets organization] should cancel practice and have the entire organization meet with the Pro Bowler, a moot point. Receiver Braylon Edwards was not overly excited about the suggestion, referring that if the team took that route it would mean somebody was more important than the entire team. “You know I love Revis to death, and I have no problem with the situation and what he has going on right now. At the end of the day, it’s about him and his family, and about him and the team getting on the same page, and by the team I mean the administration, the heads and the guys that go over those deals and contracts.” Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |

Watson Takes Early PGA Lead, Woods Shoots 71 Posted: 13 Aug 2010 07:01 PM PDT Tom Edrington – AHN Sports Reporter Kohler, WI, United States (AHN) – A heavy fog controlled conditions at Whistling Straits Thursday as the first round of the 92nd PGA Championship was delayed for more than three hours. It didn’t phase Bubba Watson. He used his length off the tee and a strong putting performance to shoot a four-under par 68 to hold the early lead with Italy’s Francisco Molinari. Three shots behind was the world’s No. 1 player, Tiger Woods, who seemingly turned his game around in three days. After his worst performance of his career at Firestone last week, he got off to a hot start then held on to open with a one-under par 71. The thick fog delayed play for three hours and 10 minutes. But it left the course soft and the greens receptive to iron shots. “My focus was there,” Watson said after his round. “The golf course is not easy. I just made a lot of putts.” He also hit some amazing shots. On the 598-yard par five fifth hole, he took an aggressive line off the tee and hit a sand wedge into the green for his second shot. “I figured why not have some fun.” The entire day was fun for Watson who managed six birdies and a pair of bogeys around the Straits course. “I took my medicine when I had to,” he said of his stray shots. Woods got off to an amazing start. He started on the back nine and birdied three of his first four holes. He didn’t make another birdie until the final hole of the day, the ninth, when he hit a wedge to seven feet and holed the putt. It was a huge turnaround from last week. “I’d say so,” Woods said, smiling again. “I got off to a good start and was grinding my way around. I felt I had control of the ball, I had good speed on the greens. They were a bit slower than I thought they’d be.” It wasn’t a perfect day for Woods. Three bogeys erased the fast start and it was the final putt of the day that got him into red figures. There were a lot of good scores among the early players. There was little wind to start but by mid-afternoon, it strengthened. A shot behind the leaders was a group at 69 headed by Jason Day. “The rain on Wednesday softened it up a lot,” he explained. “Playing early with the wind down helped as well.” Early finishers joining him were Charles Howell III and Ryan Moore. Jim Furyk finished with a 70 while defending champion Y.E. Yang opending with an even par round of 72. Phil Mickelson was a late starter. He birdied his first hole and was one-under through his first three holes. With the late start, it was apparent that not everyone in the field would finish and that first round play would have to conclude early Friday morning. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
Chipper Could Cap MLB Career Due To Knee Injury Posted: 13 Aug 2010 07:01 PM PDT Jojo Doria – AHN Sports Contributor Atlanta, GA, United States (AHN) – Atlanta Braves third baseman Chipper Jones will miss the remainder of the season because of a torn ACL in his left knee. The injury could end Jones’ career. The 38-year-old veteran, who had hinted at retirement as reported earlier this year, will undergo season-ending surgery after MRI results revealed the severity of the injury. No date has been set for the procedure, but an estimated recovery period is at least six months. Jones was hurt in Tuesday’s encounter against Houston while making a brilliant defensive play in the sixth inning. The six-time All-Star fielded a routine grounder by Hunter Pence, but the momentum of the acrobatic throw across the diamond appeared to have caused him to land awkwardly on his left leg. The loss of Jones would impact the Braves, who are trying to hold off the Philadelphia Phillies. The Braves are 2 1-2 games ahead of Philadelphia in the NL East entering Thursday. In his expected rookies season in 1994, Jones sustained the same injury to the same knee. He bounced back to become one of the greatest player in the history of the franchise, winning the NL MVP award in 1999 and capturing the 2008 NL batting title. Jones, who is coming off a disappointing 2009 campaign, got off to a miserable start this year but came back to hit .265 with 10 homers and 46 RBI for the Braves. Jones is expected to seek a second opinion, while he reportedly ponders on whether he will continue playing after the second major knee injury of his career. Article © AHN – All Rights Reserved |
