The decisive Test at the P Sara Oval saw SL at a very comfortable position with Thilan Samaraweera scoring a ton and thus intercepting India's efforts at taking early wickets. The combative pitch found Samaraweera at ease hitting the ball late, excellent footwork, hardly ever missing on the balling variations with so much watchfulness that it was an absolute pleasure to watch him today.

He opened his innings hitting Abhumanyu Mithun's way off delivery chopping it well far away Virendra Sehwag and hit a boundary again to the fine leg. He scored his fifth boundary on Amit Mishra.

The srilankan batsman had his day by slog-sweeping Mishra and lofting the Pragyan Ojha's balls towards the end displaying aggressive batting too.

Ojha tried to confuse Mathew with a varying pace to his spin, balling around the wicket. The 2nd day saw him continuing his resolve to score 50 plus partnerships. He was a sight when he came on to play keeping the tension to the maximum and Ishant held up his length's to make it hard for him with ball hitting the edge of the bat at times. He struggled with Ojha's spinning and finally fell for his trap misreading an arm ball.

While Samaraweera was at ease as compared to his teammates, they all managed to get good score of 425 while the Indain attack was not well coordinated. Ishan found no help from Mithun who wrong with his direction today wandering down the leg side. Though Mishra was better at the job but was defended well by Samaraweera. The erratic Prasanna Jayawardene played a short strike with top-edges on spin balls from Ojha and Mishra, was caught out when he swept off Ojha.

At the end of Srilankan Innings, Ishant wound up the tail enders with short deliveries when Lasith Malinga and Randiv fell easily.

Sri Lanka v India on the 2nd day found Sehwag at his best hitting 4 boundaries-through point, square leg, mid-on and over midwicket off Welegedara who had his swing well in place. The SL pacers were balling sharp overs and Malinga finding blockholes but Sehwag nullified them all.

New Delhi, India (AHN) – After days of allegations of corruption flying thick against the officials involved in various projects associated with the Commonwealth Games (CWG) in India, the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) has written to the CWG Organizing Committee, demanding written assurance regarding the quality of the games infrastructure.

The CGF letter has asked the Committee to ensure that all the venues for the Games, to be held between October 3 and 14, will be of optimum quality.

CGF Executive Officer Mike Hooper, while talking on Monday, also expressed his concern over the implications of the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) report that has raised questions over the various Games-related projects.

Hooper also said that the CFG was more concerned about the fact that the venues should be up to the mark for the event. He said, “Certainly it is of concern and if there are immediate works needed to be done… they must do it in the next 60 days.”

It might be pertinent to mention that in its recent assessment report, the CVC’s Chief Technical Examination Wing, had indicated that there were large-scale procedural violations in 16 different construction works related to CWG, thereby implicating the host of government agencies and departments in the process.

The CGF has asked the Organizing Committee to follow up the report even as Hooper expressed that they were confident that the Organizing Committee would be able to finish the rest of the construction work.

Meanwhile, the Indian media is having a field day as far as reporting the alleged corrupt dealings in context to the CWG are concerned.

For instance, in a recent report stated that the CWG organizing panel had rented, not bought, a treadmill for a whopping Rs 7 lakh (USD 16,000), all paid from the taxpayers’ money. Similarly, things like chairs were bought at Rs 8, 378 (USD 180) each while 100-litre refrigerators were hired or Rs. 42,202 (about USD 910) each.
