India vs South Afruca, 1st Test:Pacers Steyn and Morkel make it very difficult for India

Posted: 16 Dec 2010 10:01 PM PST

Ind vs SA, 1st testIt was very much on expected lines today at the SuperSport Park in Centurion where South Africa won the toss to choose to field against India in the first test match.

The Indian batsmen had a difficult time facing the fast bowling pair of Morkel and Steyn who took 7 wickets between them and the scorecard reads 136/9 in 38.1 overs.

The pace assault by the two bowlers left nothing to imagination and the bouncers made them all dread it.

The very anticipated face-to-face of Virendra Sehwag and Dale Steyn ended with Sehwag going for a duck in just 3 balls and after that the bruising attack by the pacers left the Indian batting line-up looking for loopholes to evade it.

Only Tendulkar could score 36 runs only to fall for Lbw on Steyn's ball and opener Gambhir had a real tough time facing Morkel. The 150kph fast bowling was just too much for Gambhir as Morkel was pretty tough on him targeting his body and sometimes head.

Steyn was not at all merciful and Gambhir took his eyes off the ball to get hit on his back. With poor footwork he edged to the slip and got caught by Moris on Morkel's ball with just 5 runs to his credit.

First the rain delayed the match by almost 4 hours and the conditions were favorable to the pacers. Rahul Dravid seemed to have least difficulty facing them and Tendulkar also edged past the stumps to hit for boundary to the extra cover.

Harbhajan managed to hit Tsotsobe over long-on for a six only to fail to hold on to his bat when he ran for a third and was run-out. Dhoni remained not-out till the end and survived only with some counterpunches and movements on the field that were pretty out of place.

VVS Laxman scored just 7 runs facing 20 balls and Suresh Raina was simply unable to perform. Tailenders were gone for ducks too and so far the Indian attack seems to be very lackluster.

It was the very first day of the first Test match and Indians were all out for 136 in just 38.1 overs.

It remains to be seen what the Zaheer Khan's replacement Jaidev Unadkat and Ishant Sharma can do on this field.

The Ashes: Australian Batsmen Underperform Again

Australia, England, Ashes, PerthThird match of the five test match Ashes series between touring England and hosts Australia has started at Western Australia Cricket Association Ground, Perth on Thursday 16th December.

England won the toss and decided to invite Australia for batting first. And probably the decision was correctly taken by them when the whole Australian team was back to pavilion in their first innings at a meager score of 268.

Batting and bowling is consistently and issue for hosts right from the first test match played at Brisbane that went drawn due to a fantastic piece of batting by England in their second innings.

Second test match played at Adelaide Oval was grabbed by England thereby leading in the series by 1-0 and all the way heading for a new record in 133 years old Ashes history by taking away the Urn from Australia.

In the balance 12 overs of the day England made 29 runs with no loss of wicket thereby trailing by 239 runs with all wickets intact to continue on day two. Captain Strauss is not out at 12 and Cook is playing at 17. For England Anderson and Tremlett were most successful bowlers taking three wickets each. Finn and Swan took two wickets each.

For Australia Watson and Hughes failed as openers and both got out quite early. Ponting is continuing with his failure stream as he too left crease at 12. Clarke followed with 4. Continuously giving good performances, Hussey and Haddin made 61 and 53 respectively. Johnson made valuable 62 and tail ender Siddle made 35.

It is going to be a tough task for Australia ahead in this match and the Ashes series.

IBSF World Snooker championship: Pankaj Advani beaten by Dechawat in final

Posted: 16 Dec 2010 03:01 AM PST

IBSF World Snooker championship, Pankaj AdvaniCelebrated cueist Pankaj Adavani could not match the spirited world-class challenging game put up by Thailand's Dechawat Pomajaeng in the finals of the IBSF World Snooker Championship held in Damascus, Syria on Thursday and was beaten down completely.

The Banglorean lost 7-10 in the best-of-19 frames final, divided into two sessions and could not win the very coveted trophy this time which would have been his second in his career so far. He had won the Championship in 2003 when it was organized in China but had to settle with the second place this time as the figures of the game were 37-67, 71-47, 69-35, 138-00, 12-85, 15-68, 13-63, 27-68, 57-56, 61-15, 15-71, 35-75, 32-58, 71-25, 62-33, 00-130, 08-92 as he lost.

He had performed considerably well in the tournament so far defeating Goggins 7-4 in the first semifinal on Wednesday, winning all the six matches and topped in the Group E events. even Mohammed Joaker of the UAE had no answer to his challenge as Pankaj Advani led 5-4 in the round of 32 match. He was fantastically superior to Malaysian player Moh Keen Hoo in the quarterfinals leading the game 6-1 in the event of best-of-11 matches.

In the finals Dechawat won the first frame easily and then Advani won the second frame to put a draw. But Dechawat was unbeaten with a century break of 138 in the fourth frame while he had already won two frames prior to that.

Advani was under pressure when Dechawat went on to win four more frames consecutively and reigned with the green baize. All that Advani could do was to lock the contest at 5-5 by winning the 9th and 10th frames. But now the Thai cueist was ahead of Advani in every way and left no loopholes for him to come back into the game when he effortlessly won 3 more frames.

A century break of 130 in the 16th and 92 in the 17th frame by Dechawat was enough to bring him the trophy while Advani managed to get his hands on just one frame till then. Dechawat had beaten Sangnil 7-5 who also got defeated by Rodney Goggins of Ireland 4-2 in the match for deciding the 3rd and 4th places.

Ng On Yee of Hong Kong defeated her countrymate Jaique Ip Wan 5-0 in the best-of-9 frames final in the Women's Event.

Pankaj Advani lost miserably to the Thai cueist and could not get his hands on the trophy of IBSF World Championship a second time but the 25-year old still has a lot to look forward to.
