[Result] The Ashes Back in England Posted: 28 Dec 2010 11:10 PM PST
The loss, on the fourth day, by an innings and 157 runs was the worst for the home team. Never before in the last 98 years has the Australian team suffered such heavy reversal. England at the start of the fourth day needed 03 wickets to romp home. In just about one and a half hours time, the team was celebrating. Tim Bresnan, who took 4wickets for 50 runs, was surrounded by the team when the last wicket fell. The British fans were all celebrating in the stands. The Aussies did try to recover and make a match. A fighting Brad Haddin and Peter Siddle stand of 86 runs brought some cheers in the Home team dressing room. But the writing was very much there on the wall. Siddle and Hilfehaus were send back one after the other and with Ryan Harris unable to take the crease due to injury ,the Aussies folded for 258 runs. The next test match at the Sydney cricket grounds will see English team going in with a draw or another win on their mind. The Kangaroos will try to salvage their image by at least winning the test and drawing the series 2-2. The year 1986 and the English team led by Mike Gatting did the unbelievable-they beat the Alan Border led Australian team to retain the Ashes. |

The magic has happened starting just before tea session when captain and opener Graeme Smith, who was batting superbly and confidently , lost his control and concentration when he tried to pull a bouncer from Sreesanth which ended in a cool and comfortable catch for wicketkeeper behind the stumps. Smith had made 37 runs in just 38 balls with five well timed fours in his account. South Africa were 63 for loss of one wicket at tea. Post tea second opener Alviro Petersen gave a challenging catch to Cheteshwar Pujara standing just near the stumps on the bowling of Harbhajan Singh and got out at 26 made in 45 balls with 4 fours. Amla dared to fiddle unnecessarily with an outgoing ball of Sreesanth and gave a low catch to Captain Dhoni which was well taken by him. Amla had to pay penalty for his stupid act. There was no addition of score after fall of second wicket when third wicket fell for South Africa. Veteran Jacques Kallis and AB de Villiers are not out on crease at 12 and 17 respectively and South Africa were 111 for loss of three wickets. It would have been 111 for four had Pujara taken another low but quite possible catch near the stumps on the bowling of Harbhajan and Kallis would have been sent back to pavilion. This drop may cost a lot to India on day four of the match. With two days to go match is certain to fetch results. In whose favour it will go it will depend purely on both the teams. It is quite open right now for both to grab the match. South Africa on one hand with a solid batting line requires 192 more runs with seven wickets in hand. India on the other hand can do some magic with the help of Zaheer and Harbhajan Singh to get those seven wickets out. The match was called off soon after tea time due to bad light as happened on earlier two days. Though local met department has forecasted for rain on day four and five but probably it won't wash out match totally without producing any results. India definitely needs to win this match to stay alive in the three test match series after losing first match in a drastic manner.

[Live Score] Pakistan vs New Zealand [Pak vs NZ]: A remarkable 1st T20I for Guptill and Southee Posted: 27 Dec 2010 11:32 PM PST
After delivering poor performances now both the teams, Pakistan and New Zealand, have to make an extra effort to equalize the difference. Set to face each other at Hamilton on Tuesday 28 December both teams are planning few changes. Pakistan will perhaps get in an extra batsman instead of the flooded list of bowlers whereas, New Zealand will continue with almost same kind of format. Pakistan's team Shahid Afridi has decided to bowl in order to keep the three-match series very much alive and in his stride. New Zealand has won the first match pretty reasonably after the Pakistan distorted in the stir of some tremendous bowling by Tim Southee where he managed the third hat-trick of the format. Tim Southee's 5-wicket heave was well harmonized by Martin Guptill's tumultuous half-century as New Zealand secured a 5-wicket win over Pakistan in the opening T20 International at Eden Park on Sunday. The young Southee, flounced the Pakistan line-up to confine them to 143 for 9 in their assigned 20 overs before Guptill amused his home crowd with a courageous 54 on just 29 balls, ensuring a comfy chase for the hosts with 17 balls on standby and five wickets still intact. Afridi's men began convincingly sound, to score 58 for one in the sixth over prior running into a red-hot Tim Southee who walloped 5 times in 2 overs to overturn the middle-order. With the efforts of Umar Gul (30 off 31 balls) and Wahab Riaz (30 not out) Pakistan's score went to respectable total of 143. With openers Mohammad Hafeez and captain Shahid Afridi Pakistan got its team off to a speedy start with the latter leading in his style. Afridi hit two sixes and a four in his 12-ball 20 untill he edged by Kyle Mills. Hafeez was then joined by Ahmed Shehzad who was playing in his 3rd T20 International. Leaving Pakistan tottering at 68 for 6 by the 10th over, Southee's attack incorporated with a hat-trick, on the dismissal of Hafeez, middle-order veteran Younis Khan and the emerging talent Umar Akmal. Taking the charge, came Umar Gul and Wahab Riaz to push their side for a respectable total, flooded with boundaries in the final overs. Both of them scored invaluable thirties; however, Southee's aggressive assault had done lasting damage to the Pakistan line-up. Southee full-stopped with his career-best by giving 5 for 18 of four overs, while Kyle Mills arrived with 3 for 37 from 4 overs. While chasing the set score, New Zeas led by Martin Guptill, who looted Abdul Razzaq for a six and two fours in the very opening. In the next over Guptill's opening partner Jesse Ryder lost his wicket to Akhtar. Guptill continued to be hoist towards the express pacer Shoaib Akhtar. Taking wicket of debutant Dean Brownlie in the fourth over Akhtar left the hosts at 45 for 2 on the board. Then came Scott Styris to the crease, and strike a six on his second ball but he couldn't continue it as Shoaib broke his stumps. Though the wickets were clattering, Guptill kept his form intact and took the score to 55 in five overs and scripted his maiden T20 half-century off 23 balls. He was later declared man-of-the match for his five-wicket haul.
