Nadal tops the year’s tennis ranking with Federer following close Posted: 22 Dec 2010 04:32 AM PST
While tennis enthusiasts are still talking about whether Roger Federer holds the greatest spot in the players list, Rafael Nadal has just made it clearer that he is the top spot owner as far as tennis is confirmed. While Federer grabbed the sixth spot for winning all the titles in grand slam that are four in number, it was just fifteen months later that Nadal followed in and became the seventh after he turned out victorious in the 2010 US Open. This was his third big feat after he grabbed success at the Wimbledon and French Open. He also took back his No.1 ranking from Roger Federer and gouged seven titles also. His master series win in the 18th session was also one of them. Nadal is much ahead after his gold medal in the Olympic singles and also a two titles in the Davis Cup. Nadal talking about his winnings says that the season has been fruitful for him and is incredibly outstanding. Even though this might not be the best ever but is definitely one of the best. From 2004 Nadal has won 28 Grand Slam titles while Federer has won four less that is 24. In the ranking taking over the 3rd and the 4th spot were Djokovic of Serbia and Andy Murray from Britain. Beating France during the Final round of Davis Cup, Djokovic brought Serbia it first victory. In the top 100 tennis ranking for men there were no teen players taking the spot. Other first time top 20 baggers included Jurgen Melzer, Mardy Fish, Sam Querrey, and John Isner. |
Vijender Singh makes 2010 a fruitful year of Indian boxing Posted: 22 Dec 2010 01:49 AM PST
Vijender Singh, the Indian boxer and hero of Olympics made it to greater heights of success as he began with a gold rush and ended the whole thing on a similar note. At present he is in a leading position as he clinched twin gold and one bronze medal during this rocking year 2010. In the very beginning of this season Virender minted three gold feats at the Dhaka South Asian games during the month of February. Finishing on top were Chhote Lal Yadav and Suranjoy Singh along with Amandeep Singh. In the following month the boxer grabbed more than over a dozen of medals in gold at the CWG. Apart from the victory, Virender also gained higher fan following. His fans turned up when he was exchanging punches and the big thing about this is that the country hardly follows anyother sport apart from cricket while it is because of Vijender that boxing has also got a facelift in the nation with growing liking from the crowd. Indian boxers like Vijender (75kg), Amandeep (49kg), Suranjoy (52kg). Jai Bhagwan (60kg), Dinesh Kumar (81kg) and Paramjeet Samota (+91kg) are together a factor for the growing popularity of this sport. Vijender made his first medal in gold during a stretch of two years and has hence established his prime supremacy once again. His good performance was only the beginning and with the CWG, Vijender just made it more evident that he is the one on top. The team practiced in Cuba and their efforts were very evident once the team took to the ring. |
Maya Moore gets UCONN Women’s Basketball team the 89th win Posted: 21 Dec 2010 11:44 PM PST
The UCONN Women’s Basketball team is on the win mode and the credit for this goes to Maya Moore. The team has established a new record in the game of basketball by hitting 89 wins in a row. In simpler words the Connecticut University hasn't lost after 2008's presidential race. Maya Moore the huskies basket ball forward has been the complete team support after she bagged Naismith Prep Player of the Year prize for two consecutive years that is in 2006 and 2007. In the current victory Maya Moore scored an outstanding 41 points against the Florida state team and hence got the winning spot with 93 to 62 points. No comparisons can be established in between the two basketball teams of UCONN wherein one is led by women while the other by Men. The women team winning all the feats has nothing to do with the other basketball team in the college. It is solely the women's team that has ousted all records and has established a place for self in the game of Basketball. In this golden season there are many female athletes that have made a position for self and by winning all through even Maya Moore has done the same with the backup of her college team. It is indeed a great time for women athletes as the American's are accepting the strong women in their culture. Whether it is Maya Moore the champ of UCONN or whether it is Lindsay Vonn in Skiing they are definitely the top players. |
